Jimmy wanted to take a day off to read a book, but he still wanted to get some practice in. On a lark he decided to make a cat collar. Cats were a common pet that people liked to have around. He didn't have one, as cats didn't particularly like loud noises or fire or smoke.
Not wanting to waste anything particularly valuable but not wanting to half-ass any creation of his, he grabbed some steel, copper and a few zirconium crystals that would help him make something potent enough. He got to beating the metal up. It took a minute, as the copper didn't need much to heat it up and he got it into shape.
The alloying of the iron and copper was a bit frustrating as he needed to remove the oxides carefully as the two metals oxidized very easily, but he managed. It had high-tensile strength and had a lovely light-pink shine. This collar needed some adjustments as it was really just a hoop at this point, so he made it a bit more like a chain-mail hoop and built a buckle as part of it.
Chiseling places for the zirconiums - making it into spelling CAT for a lark - took a minute but it was easy enough, and then he used fine pincers to place the gems and then did some blacksmith stuff to set them perfectly.
The collar was mostly ready, and just needed to be heated and shoved into water a bunch of times in the way that Jimmy knew best. The colour was shifting and sparkling in a myriad ways, and he avoided the temptation to wear the collar to see what it did to him.
So, he went to find a cat. There was a nice black cat chilling under a tree a few neighbours down the road. A "Psst psst psst" and promising of scritches brought the cat to him very fast and he clasped the collar around the neck as the cat was distracted.

The moment the collar was attached, the cat went from ordinary black to a kaleidoscope of colours and it started jumping at bright laser lights that flew around the ground. Pouncing and pouncing around the place and he accidentally jumped in front of a galloping horse that was passing by on the road. The big horse stomped directly on the cat and Jimmy winced.
The cat lay for a second, and shook himself off in the slight indentation - the horse and his rider didn't even stop they were in such a hurry - and got back to jumping at the lightshow his collar was making. Jimmy watched with enjoyment for a bit longer until the cat ended up racing out of his vision and Jimmy got to his day off.
"Hehehe that's what I love about what I can do. That cat is going to be messing with people for a long time. Unkillable cat! who would have thought!" Jimmy kept laughing to himself as would be amused for quite a while whenever thinking of that advent.
Soot the now enchanted cat would become a mascot for the Deity of Chance, as the presence of the cat would become something of an inside joke whenever Soot messed with a battle or argument. Sometimes two shop owners would be arguing and then suddenly cat. A dancing cat.
There was another time where a couple of children realized the cat was invulnerable and decided to throw rocks at him. The cat was able to focus long enough to seriously injure the pair of kids and there was no sympathy for the idiotic children for messing with the wrong animal.
Sooty distracted a dragon for an hour one day, as the dragon was deeply offended and then a bit intrigued at not being able to harm a seemingly ordinary cat. Then he flew away from the village he was about to raid. That Soot thus had saved a village. The village worshiped Deity of Chance and the mascot.
A number of lighthearted adventures would continue to happen throughout the years. Soot the Invincible. Centuries later and there was still the darned cat racing around and sometimes would be kept entertained for long enough to have been met by all the children who were not rude and dumb.
