Ch 6- Force of Nature

"Move one inch closer and your partner is done"

Ed's voice was cold, his eyes locked onto Reeva's. His arm trembled slightly, hoping she would take the bluff. He had awoken just a minute ago and followed the sounds of the battle. Now he stands over a sleeping body who he assumed was the one in his nightmare.

Reeva's eyes narrowed, the glint of her blades reflecting the moonlight. "You underestimate me if you think I'll be threatened so easily."

With a swift, fluid motion, Reeva launched herself at Alexia, her blades gleaming deadly in the moonlight. Alexia's magic surged within her, flames erupting from her outstretched hand as she conjured a wall of fire between them.

The flames roared to life, forming an impassable barrier between Reeva and Alexia. Reeva hissed in fury, her serpentine form recoiling as the heat washed over her. Her blades slashed through the air, but the flames remained an impenetrable shield.

Ed's gaze remained locked on Reeva, gripping his spear harder. He took a step closer, giving a final warning. "Stand down now, or I'll make sure your partner here never wakes up."

Reeva's lips curled into a cruel smile, her gaze flickering toward her fallen partner. "He's of no consequence. He served his purpose."

Hearing this, Ed lunged forward, his spear aimed at Reeva's midsection. Reeva deftly sidestepped the attack, her blades slashing through the air in response. Ed's reflexes kicked in, and he managed to block the strike with his spear, the clash of metal against metal ringing through the night.

Ed's muscles strained as he parried Reeva's attacks, the sound of blades clashing filling the night sky. He twisted his body, attempting to create an opening for a counterattack, but Reeva's movements were swift and relentless. It looked as if she was dancing in the pale moonlight

As Reeva's blades whirled, Ed saw an opening. With a quick feint to the left, he dodged to the right, narrowly avoiding a swipe of Reeva's blade. In that split second, he lunged forward, his spear aimed at her side. Reeva's eyes widened as the spear connected, the weapon piercing through her armor.

A pained hiss escaped Reeva's lips as she staggered back, her grip on her blades faltering for a moment. Ed's heart pounded with triumph, but his victory was short-lived. With a guttural snarl, Reeva launched herself at Ed, her blades slashing through the air with lethal precision. One of Reeva's blades struck true, hitting Ed's arm with a sickening thud. Pain lanced through him, but he refused to release his hold on his weapon. With a fierce grunt, he swung his elbow backward, aiming for Reeva's face.

Reeva's head snapped back from the impact, and she stumbled backward, momentarily disoriented.

Ed's arm throbbed, blood seeping from the wound on his arm. Recovered from the attack she attacks once more which he met with his spear. Their blades clashed, the force of the impact reverberating through his arm. Alexia's voice rang out, her magic erupting in a burst of flames that engulfed Reeva's form.

Reeva's scream pierced the night as the flames licked at her, her serpentine form thrashing in agony. But even in her pain, she fought back, her blades slashing through the flames in a frenzy.

Ed's muscles strained as he continued to parry Reeva's attacks, sweat trickling down his brow. He locked eyes with Alexia, communicating silently. With a nod, he stepped back, creating a small gap between them.

As Reeva lunged forward once more, Ed used the opportunity to slide his spear along the ground, sweeping Reeva's legs out from under her. She crashed to the ground with a grunt, her blades clattering from her grasp.

Alexia's flames surged, a torrent of fire converging on Reeva's fallen form.

A sinister laughter filled the air, shattering the eerie silence. From the darkness emerged Reeva, her body seemingly untouched by the flames that had consumed her moments before. Her blades gleamed in the dim light, a stark contrast to the darkness that enveloped her.

"You thought it would be that easy?" Reeva's voice was a hissing whisper, her eyes glowing with a malevolent light. "Fire can't claim me, for I am born of shadows and blood. I will show you the true extent of my seed of Eden”

Without warning, Reeva surged forward, her movements a blur of deadly precision. Her blades sliced through the air, aimed at Alexia's legs. The princess barely had time to react, and a searing pain exploded in her legs as Reeva's blades found their mark.

Alexia's cry of pain filled the air as she stumbled back, her hands instinctively moving to staunch the blood that flowed from her wounds. Ed's spear shot forward, his aim true, but Reeva twisted her body with unnatural agility, evading the strike.

Alexia summoned a barrier of magic to protect herself but Reeva's strike was relentless, her blades slicing through the magical shield as if it were paper.

Ed's heart raced as he lunged forward, his spear poised for a strike. But Reeva's form blurred before his eyes, her sickles dancing in a deadly dance that kept him at bay. He parried her strikes, the clash of metal against metal ringing through the clearing.

Reeva's laughter was a haunting melody as she spun, her blades a deadly symphony that seemed to sing of destruction. With each strike, Ed was pushed further on the defensive, his arms straining under the force of Reeva's relentless assault. She blended into the darkness attacking from all directions.

With a chilling smile she raised her sickles high. In one swift motion, Reeva's sickles began to spin faster and faster, a whirlwind of steel that created an otherworldly vortex of power. Her form blurred, becoming a tempest of deadly elegance. The ground trembled beneath her feet, the sheer force of her energy sending shockwaves that radiated outward.

With a primal roar, Reeva lunged forward, her figure a blur of motion as she closed the distance between herself and Ed and Alexia. The whirlwind of spinning sickles surrounded her, creating an almost ethereal spectacle as she moved with incredible speed.

Alexia's heart raced as she summoned a barrier of flames, her magic surging to life in a desperate attempt to shield herself from the impending onslaught. Ed's grip tightened around his spear, his body tense as he prepared to defend against the attack.

The impact was cataclysmic. Reeva's spinning sickles collided with Alexia's fiery barrier, creating an explosion of sound and energy that reverberated through the clearing. The flames roared and crackled against the force of Reeva's assault, the two powers locked in a fierce struggle for dominance.

However her attack was relentless, sickles slicing through the flames like a scythe through wheat. The barrier shattered under the force of her onslaught, the fiery remnants dispersing into the air. With a triumphant hiss, Reeva's sickles connected with Alexia's form, the blades biting into her shoulder and side sending her flying into a tree.

Ed's heart pounded as he lunged forward, his spear aimed at Reeva's flank. He swung with all his might, the blade of his weapon glinting in the moonlight. But Reeva's speed was astonishing; she twisted her body, narrowly evading Ed's strike by a hair's breadth. In a fluid motion, she countered with a swift kick that sent Ed stumbling back.

As Ed fought to regain his balance, Reeva's form blurred once again. With a fierce cry, she spun on her heel, her sickles creating a dazzling dance of death. The air itself seemed to bend to her will, her attack like a tornado of steel that threatened to consume everything in its path.

Ed's instincts kicked in, his body moving on sheer reflex. He rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding Reeva's spinning assault. How were they going to defeat this monstrosity?

His mind raced as he formulated a plan.

He locked eyes with Alexia, his voice cutting through the cacophony. "Alexia, create the brightest flame you can!"

Alexia, her face streaked with soot and sweat, having only just gotten up from being sent flying. Channeling the depths of her magic and calling on her most passionate memories she summoned a brilliant fire that blazed with an intensity unlike anything they had seen before. The flames roared to life, casting a blinding light that illuminated the entire clearing, banishing even the deepest shadows.

Reeva's hiss of frustration was almost drowned out by the brilliance of the flames. Her form wavered as if struggling to maintain her corporeal existence under the searing light. Her sickles swung with diminished speed, and her movements were sluggish, as if the intensity of the light had drained her strength.

Ed seized the moment, his spear poised for a strike. With a determined roar, he lunged forward, his spear aimed directly at Reeva's heart. The flames engulfed her, casting a dancing, distorted silhouette on the ground.

As the spear made contact, the flames seemed to surge towards Reeva, as if drawn by an invisible force. Her form trembled, her eyes wide with shock as the flames began to consume her. The darkness that clung to her, the very essence of her power, was overpowered by the blinding light.

Ed's spear pierced through Reeva's form, and her screams were drowned out by the roaring flames. The ground trembled beneath them, and the air crackled with energy as if bearing witness to the culmination of a powerful clash.

With one final surge of strength, Reeva's form disintegrated into ash, the remnants of her power consumed by the brilliance of the flames. The light gradually subsided, leaving behind only a smoldering aftermath and the scent of burnt wood and flesh.

The battle was over. Ed and Alexia exchanged a weary yet triumphant glance. However the ordeal was not finished as they looked around their surroundings. The flames that had once been their allies now danced with reckless abandon, hungrily consuming the underbrush and trees. The fire, once harnessed to fend off their adversary, had now spiraled out of control.

Horror mingled with desperation as they watched the inferno spread, its ravenous tendrils devouring everything in their path. The crackling flames cast an eerie glow on their faces, the same flames that had flickered with life now roaring with a ferocity that threatened to consume them as well.

"Let’s hurry before we meet our ends here," Alexia's voice was laced with urgency, her eyes wide with alarm.

Ed's heart raced as he nodded in agreement. Their victory over Reeva had come at a steep cost, and now their immediate concern was their own survival. Adrenaline surged through their veins once more, their aching bodies propelled into action as they turned away from the burning forest.

Their footsteps were heavy, the ground still tremoring beneath them from the remnants of their battle. Behind them, the crackling of flames and the distant roar of the fire filled the air.

As they moved further away, the forest behind them became a canvas of fire and smoke, an apocalyptic scene that bore witness to the havoc they had unwittingly unleashed. The flames danced in wild abandon, casting twisted shadows that seemed to reach out like spectral fingers.

The night sky above was a tapestry of stars, their cold and distant glimmers juxtaposed against the searing heat of the inferno. The air was thick with the acrid scent of smoke, and the wind carried with it the haunting cries of creatures fleeing the encroaching blaze.

Alexia fell to the ground while running, her injury burning as if the flames had already gotten her. Ed's breaths were heavy, his injured arm throbbing with pain, but he pushed his discomfort aside. Adrenaline surged through his veins as he scooped Alexia into his arms. Her fingers clung to his shoulder, her face pale and eyes wide with a mix of pain and fear.

"Hold on tight," Ed's voice was determined, his grip on her steady as he began to run. His legs carried them through the burning forest which thankfully were not injured. The ground was uneven, littered with fallen debris and smoldering embers that threatened to trip them at every turn.

Trees that had once stood tall now crumbled and burned, their skeletal forms reaching for the sky like ghostly sentinels.

The smoke was thick, stinging their eyes and clogging their lungs with each labored breath.

The crackling of flames drew closer, the heat intensifying as they ran. Each time they stumbled upon a clearing, they could see the blaze advancing, a wall of fire that devoured everything in its path.

Ed's muscles ached, his steps becoming more strained with each passing moment. But he refused to give in to the pain, his determination unwavering. Alexia's grip on his shoulder tightened, her breaths coming in ragged gasps. Despite the agony they both felt, her eyes held a flicker of gratitude, a silent acknowledgment of the sacrifice he was making for her.

And then, at last, they burst through the edge of the burning forest. The air outside was cooler, carrying with it a faint scent of smoke. Ed's steps faltered as he stumbled onto open ground, gasping for air as he gently set Alexia down. They were beyond the reach of the flames, the inferno now a distant wall of fire behind them.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice rough with emotion.

Alexia nodded weakly, her breathing labored but steady. "I'm... I'm okay. Just... tired."

As they sat side by side, gazing at the forest consumed by flames, a heavy silence hung in the air. The crackling of the fire and the distant roar of the inferno formed a somber backdrop to their exhaustion. Ed's arm throbbed from his injuries, and Alexia's legs were aching from the deep cuts. Yet, amidst the devastation, they were just happy they survived all of that.

As the minutes passed, a gradual shift began to occur on the horizon. The ink-black sky slowly began to lighten, the first hints of dawn breaking through the darkness. Faint shades of pink and orange painted the heavens, casting a soft, ethereal glow over the landscape.

Ed's weariness began to give way to a sense of awe as he watched the sunrise unfold. The world around them, even in its ravaged state, was illuminated by the dawn's gentle light. It was a hauntingly beautiful sight he thought.

Beside him, Alexia shifted, her tired eyes fixated on the horizon. The pain from her wounds seemed to fade into the background as she became lost in the spectacle of the sunrise. The colors painted across the sky mirrored the range of emotions they had experienced—fear, determination, and now a glimmer of hope.

As the first rays of sunlight pierced the darkness, the forest's destruction was revealed in its entirety. The landscape was a patchwork of charred trees and smoldering remnants. It was all over now.

"You know, watching this sunrise, it's like... a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there's still beauty and hope." His gaze returned to the sunrise

She nodded in agreement, her fingers absentmindedly tracing patterns in the dirt. "It's strange how something as simple as a sunrise can carry so much meaning," she mused. "It's like nature's way of telling us that no matter how hard things get, there's always a chance for a fresh start."

He sighed, his expression reflecting a mixture of emotions. "I used to think that I was meant for something greater, that I was supposed to be this great adventurer. But tonight... I realized that maybe I've been chasing after an image of myself that doesn't really exist."

Alexia turned towards him, her gaze filled with empathy. "Ed, just because things didn't turn out the way you expected doesn't mean you're any less capable or valuable. You showed incredible courage tonight, and you saved my life. That's something to be proud of."

Ed's lips curved into a rueful smile. "Maybe you're right.”

The sun ascended bathing them in warm light
