huh, who am i?
While dwelling on this, i notice 5..beings?..tethered to me. I call to them.

I am Yggdrasil, it's not the name I chose, but the one I was labelled with, perhaps I will find a name for myself later.
I spent a long time conferring with 'The Five', as they are known, they are in fact the original 5 gods of the Void.
You see, a long time ago, something happened, something that should never have happened.
5 realms came in contact with each other. If The Five did not intervene, it would have meant the end of not just those 5 Realms, but the Void as well.
This might cause some confusion, so let me explain.
The Void a.k.a the place between, is a kind of natural barrier between realms. It is home to the Voidlings. They are life-eaters, always seeking to enter other realms to devour them, and even they have rules that must be followed.
For if they wiped out all life, then they would have no life energy left to feed upon. There is a lot more i could touch on...how their society formed, their gods, their rules. For now i will only touch on the essentials.
The contact of the five realms caused a build up of catastrophic amounts of energy, should that energy have come in contact with the voidspace, the resulting detonation would have wiped out the void and all that it separates.
The Five fearing for the loss of their own kind, came to a conclusion... stabilize the energy and separate the realms.
They sacrificed half their race. And it worked. Pushing themselves into the centre of the Event they created a bubble of voidspace.
But the built up energy had to go somewhere. So The Five, working in tangent, acted as a filter. Drawing the energy into their bodies and pushing it into the created voidspace, preventing a reaction between the energy and the void.
This resulted in them becoming tethered to the created space and more aware of each realm. They became the Watchers of the realms. For fear that one day the voidspace they established would fail.

As time passed, The Watchers became less worried, as the voidspace held its own, and even changed.
It was drawing in energy from the realms it was in contact with!
And so it comes to me, Yggdrasil. The tree of life.
The realms still overlap, but I am between them. Where this overlap happens a Tree has grown in each realm, I believe this is caused by a bit of the explosive energy bleeding back into its own world, creating life. Hence my name.
Anyway, I am actually the the voidspace. Imagine that, Life created by Life-eaters, the irony isn't lost on The Five either.
Because the energy fed into the voidspace flowed through The Five, I now have all their knowledge within me. It definitely made things easier.
And after examining the tether between them and me, I have realized its not a tether at all, but a connection, recognized by the universe as necessary.
Their sacrifice and the sacrifice of their people, was recognized by the Universe. They no longer need to feast, they are more then they were before, no long just voidlings or the gods of their race, but something else.
TIME PASSES
So bored.
Holding the realms apart is completely subconscience now, and The Watchers only need to check in on the realms every few years.
Through our connection, i can feel their will fading. Because of my awareness, they fear they have become unnecessary.
I did not wish to become their prison. It is my belief that they have a purpose, but even i am unaware of what it may be. Only time will tell.

2 - I feel that the prologue is too complex, but i am unsure on how to simplify.
3 - The ending may seem clipped short, it is. I'm waiting on feedback, and also i have yet to figure out a way for my MC to traverse the realms as a not-op character
4 - *cough* naming is hard, and i cant keep calling 'the Five' by group nouns
