The day passed into night, and Tang Huaizhen still sat. His mind reeling from the revelation of his destiny. The plate in his hand, a dull burnished metal, he stared at the turtle and the runes. Tracing his fingers around them. It’s meaning he knew nothing of, but it felt ancient and profound. He poured his qi inside of it, but it was like a bottomless pit, nearly sucking away all of it. He cut himself off from it and placed it on the ground. Shifting from his knees he sat down in meditation trying to still his mind. The mental stress of his destiny being rolled out in front of him, of the certain death in serving a faceless master. The fate of his family, his sect, his nation all rest upon his shoulders. He knew not the consequence of failing to make this trek, but he knew they would be severe.
He folded a hand sign to dispel the sweat he was caked with. His body was tense, even as he attempted to clear his mind. He could not clear the thoughts rolling across of his mind, of death and pain. His teeth clenched as he even tried to rid himself of the fear. He would not allow a heart demon to form from this experience, he opened his spatial ring and took from it a necklace. Putting it on, a cool sensation seeped out of it, slowly washing over his body. He gingerly caressed it, his eyes filled with love and pain. A soothing blue light filled the room and slender pale arms slowly formed, wrapped around his chest. The form of a floating palace maid, tightly hugging the prince.

“My prince, you may rest now. Qing’er shall take care of you.” the maid whispered, although it was meant to be seductive, her voice was timid. Huaizhen smiled and slowly closed his eyes. The cooling sensation fully washed over him. “Qing’er, you spoil me too much. I can not bear to be apart from you too long, don’t drain all your power now.” he slowly removed his hand from the necklace, the sensation quickly ended and the ghost vanished before reappearing before him. “Hua’er it is all I can do to serve you! I must be useful!” she pouted, arms crossed. Shaking his head Tang Huaizhen spoke sadly, “You already died for me once, I will bring you back. But if you use all your energy,,,: his voice trailed off, great sadness filled his face before he felt the cooling sensation on his temples. He sighed before straightening his back and closing his eyes. Entering deep into his meditation, waiting for the journey to end, so he could face his trial, if he would live and see to it that his love would return to the mortal world, or if he would join her in ghosthood.
