The event seemed to play out in slow motion, with every frantic movement splintering into infinite still frames. One moment of clarity and safety, then a blinding explosion of horror—it was almost too much to behold.
Yet for all that happened at once, something remained detached from the chaos: yourself—a consciousness apart from events as if you were watching them unfold before you rather than living through them yourself. Somehow, though you emerged unscathed - an unlikely survivor against the rapid tide of your destruction—keeping yourself intact even if your soul is forever broken by what it has been put through—but you are alive nonetheless
You let out an over exaggerated huff as you slipped off your shoes, you glanced toward your friend Natalia who was sitting on the couch. She had her slim legs crossed with a tub of ice cream in your lap. Her slender fingers clasped around a spoon. You gave her a light smile as you glanced at the tv. It was one of her favorite shows, which you didn't mind so you went and sat down next to her. She turned her head and smiled at you.
"How was the night shift?" She asked as she dug her spoon into the ice cream, almost bending the spoon. You gave a soft shrug and slightly rolled your eyes. God, you hated how your boss would always force you to work nights.
"It's whatever, what can you do?" You said as Natalia had shoved the spoon in her mouth. You smiled slightly as she took the spoon out, you grabbed the spoon from her hand as you dug the spoon into the ice cream being much more careful than Natalia.
"Care to get your own spoon?" She scoffed, you shoved the spoon in your mouth with a hum. Handing the spoon back to Natalia.
"Nope, I just wanted a bite." You shook your head as you over exaggerated the p in 'nope'. Natalia continued to dig in her ice cream, shoving it in her mouth. You began to watch the tv. You would occasionally see Natalia make a face out of the corner out of your eye. You held back your snicker, as she held her head mumbling brainfreeze.
A few months ago, you and your two friends Natalia, and Abbie decided to live together in your parents old cabin. It shockingly wasn't too deep into the woods and was only a ten minute drive to town. Even though you all were just merely 18 year olds. Your parents let you.
You smiled to yourself, even with the rare occasional fights you would all share. You wouldn't trade your adult life for anything different. Speaking of Abbie, you wondered where she was. You didn't think she had work today? Maybe you were wrong? You glanced at Natalia who was deep into her show and ice cream to even notice your glance.
You stood up and walked to the kitchen to get yourself something to drink. As you reached the fridge, you began to scan through it. Your eyes quickly found (f/d). You grabbed it and opened it up. Taking a big gulp and then putting it on the counter.

"Hey, do you want me to make food?" You shouted, not too loud but loud enough for Natalia to hear. You heard the tv pause and footsteps approach. You turned and your gaze met Natalia as she put her ice cream back.
"What do you plan on making?" She questioned as she slammed the freezer shut. You thought for a second, you weren't too hungry to make a full course meal but hungry nonetheless.
"Will Mac and Cheese work?" You questioned. Natalia shrugged with a nod, approving that she didn't care. You gave a swift nod as you began to get everything ready. As you began to make the Mac and Cheese, you took a glance out the window. It was very dark out, so dark you could barely see the trees that surrounded your small cabin. The cabin was small, but it did fit three people comfortably.
All three of you also did make enough for the rent, and bills. Which you were happy for, you weren't struggling in money yet. But all of your parents would all pitch in, even for the smallest inconveniences. Like when the toilet broke and we went to town to buy a new one. We ended up running into Jenny. Abbie's mom, and she payed for our toilet before we could even decline. When the door swung open, you snapped out of your thoughts.
"I'm home!" It was Abbie, you could recognize her voice anywhere. You turned the stove on low as you made your way out of the kitchen. Turning the corner to see Abbie hanging her bag on the railing.
"Hey Abbz" You said with a smile, she turned and greeted you with a smile. Natalia was too zoned into her show to even glance at us.
"Oh, Missy wanted you to know that you have to work night shift again tomorrow." Abbie said as she rubbed the back of her neck. Obviously guilty for signing you up for something you didn't ask for.
You let out a sigh as you placed a hand on your hip and placing all your weight onto one foot. Abbie gave a sheepish shrug as you rolled your eyes. Natalia gave a small chuckle as she noticed this interaction. You glared at Natalia but then looked back at Abbie. You didn't want to fight, not tonight anyways.
"Well, I'm making Mac and Cheese. Are you hungry?" You questioned as you trudged your way to the kitchen. Abbie followed, as she hummed in response. Which you took that as a yes, as you continued to make the meal.

As you finished up making the meal, Abbie and Natalia had helped set out the table. You had put the meal on the hot pad Natalia had set out. You all three sat at your little table, and dug into the Mac and Cheese.
"So, you're stuck working night shift, huh?" Natalia spoke as she took a big gulp of her milk. You rolled your eyes and nodded. Abbie quickly got quiet again, she always did that when she felt bad about something.
"Yeah, we've been short staffed for awhile." You said as you dug into your food and shoved it into your mouth. Abbie took a bite of hers as well.
"No one else is willing to take night shift, not after that one robbery happened." She spoke as she drank her diet Dr. Pepper. You shrugged, as you kept eating.
"It was one time and that was months ago, people are still on that?" Natalia raised a brow, as you were about to speak Abbie did.
"Well, yeah the guys were never caught." Abbie stated as she added some pepper to her Mac and Cheese. You took another sip of your drink.
"I'm really not too worried about it, if it was an issue it would've happened again." You said as you finished your food. You got up and went to the sink, rinsing off your dish. You heard Abbie and Natalia continue the conversation but you just shrugged it off.
"Oh, (Y/n)" Natalia spoke, which made you turn around with a raised brow. She got up and made her way to the sink, your eyes followed her as you moved slightly to get out of her way. You glanced at Abbie who was at her last bite.
"We were planning on going to Sami and Markus's house around 5pm." She stated as she washed her dish, you immediately felt a pang in your heart as you heard that. You frowned and sighed
"You guys suck." You groaned as Natalia put a hand on your shoulder as Abbie stood up.
"Maybe next time?" Abbie said, you nodded and yawned. It was always next time you barely got to see Sami or Markus. You felt as if you were just getting jealous. Abbie dried off her hands on her shirt as they both looked at you a bit concerned.
"I'm gonna head to bed. I'm quite tired, and I want to get some shopping done tomorrow." You spoke as you began to walk off.
"I'll come with you." Abbie spoke as they both followed you out of the kitchen. Natalia sat back down on the couch, unpausing her show. You don't know how she could stay up so late when she had work in the morning. Abbie was behind you as you both walked up the stairs.
"Okay, be ready around 11." You said and you heard Abbie hum a response. You made your way up the last carpeted steps and you turned right, where your room was located.
