Prologue

The smell of pumpkin spic sifted the clean air as the sounds of the cafe’s doorbell chiming when forced open, the pungent aroma of coffee overstimulated anyone who dared to cross paths with it. The sounds of dried leaves being crushed beneath the pedestrians as the sounds of motorized vehicles hummed throughout the small alleyways as the sun gradually rose above the horizon and cast a golden luminescence over the elevated city.

With hundreds of available taxis spread out, the monotone sounds of a news reporter continued their daily routine of expressing the weather and the freshest attraction within the city's perimeters.

“Looking great out here, John! The sun has risen and clouds are out of sight; in fact, today will be the perfect day, if it’s not already, for parents to take their kids to the latest attraction!” Turning his body adjacent to the amusement park he pointed towards the many rides and attractions exaggerating the temperature was just right and how even the grandparents would be willing to get out and get some Vitamin D, which was ironic because any person older than 60 was placed in a home with already supported conditions for the human body, plus UVB lighting.

The screen reflected the many people gathering in the fast-moving lines with smiles on their faces with the inside being even more impressive than the outside with kids running around freely with plushies —some even had their faces painted while parents strolled alongside with no worries— it was a relatively beautiful sight.

Although the sight of the Ferris Wheel was rather bewildering and magnificently clear, almost glass-clear, the one downside was the rancid smell it omitted, like a restaurant kitchen filled with dirty dishes and the smell of soggy food mixed with chemicals penetrating the area, but worse. Staring into the gray sky, Silice managed to wonder why, or when the sky had become so dirty. Wasn't it always a bright bright blue, like a blue jay? humming a minor melody, he carefully listened to the noises around him,  sounds of water flowing around him, he found it odd that there was no other person around him, despite the amusement park being a new attraction within the city, plus the performance of a well-liked person; this place was quite empty and quiet.

While thoughts ran laps around his mind, he started to notice the oddity of his surroundings.

The more he listened to the calming sounds from the Ferris wheel, the more he felt like he was actually floating down a stream.

Although many bodies and dead animals littered the stream, it also lacked blood; it was still a cruel sight to witness. Some even had marks that resembled human teeth, while others appeared to have been cut off.

On land, several more carcasses littered the yellow grass; however, there were no flies, or any animals feeding on the dead bodies, it was just empty.

So the sight of a man who still was intact floating amongst the hundreds of corpses with a merry smile on his face was a sight to behold, sadly for him, no one was around to witness this vicious scene.

Moving his hands through clean water, Silice felt something scaly rub against his fingers, a foot. Touching the object he felt his eyes widen in surprise, a fish!

Excited, Silice gasped, “Is it possible to add little fishes to an illusion?” Touching it again, he felt it was safe to assume that it was a little fishy, feeling his smile grow, turning his head, his nose was about an inch away from a floating arm with holes in it that revealed the rotting flesh inside and cracked bones. However, there was none of those creepy white things squirming in it.

“Woah! Did someone lose an arm here?!” Saying this; he scrunched up his eyebrows and scanned the dismantled arm with confusion flashing through his eyes. It's not bleeding, but how is that possible with all those holes? Or is this all just a trick..

Silice’s honeydew eyes flickered as he struggled to breathe. He hoped this was all a testing simulation produced by the government again, rubbing his eyes roughly before he opened them again, Silice felt the need to scream as he stared horrified at the bodies that littered the way! No, one-fourth of bodies!

The nausea came like a cannonball as it hit Silice directly in the face, where the hell was he?!

“Finally came to your senses?”
