CHAPTER 1 page 4

Yvall and Kobe stood in silence, baffled at the enormity of that ask. "Now get out of my quarters at once," the king sneered. Yvall and Kobe walked out of the door, and it was slammed closed on them. "I... I can't do that, Kobe. I mean, have you ever seen a goliath?" Yvall questioned. "And in order for me to receive the eye he wants me to kill... all of them," Yvall said in despair. It seems along the king's train of thought to think of a task improbable, he thought of a task, impossible. "I mean where to even start! Where are the goliaths anyway, what even are they?" Yvall continued.

"Perhaps you could find a scholar who knows about them?" Kobe said.

"You're right, Kobe! I need to find somebody who knows about them inside and out, somebody who knows their weaknesses as well as their strengths," Yvall said as he struck his fist against his palm. "But before setting out, Kobe, please retrieve a coffin for May to lay in peace. As well, I need you to gather the strongest knights you can find, bring them all to the war room of the castle, and I will tell them the mission," Yvall said with vigor.

Kobe raced off, and Yvall climbed the steps to the castle's war room. As he walked the staircase, he thought of the stories his mother used to tell him before bed. She was an incredible storyteller, each tale she wove of the goliaths more fantastical than the last. She had told him how they would tower over man at astounding heights, how the men who entered their domains never left the same, or never left at all, how she knew that some had divine abilities. Each night Yvall begged his mother to tell him another story even though he knew it would keep him up scared until midnight; he simply wanted to hear of the creatures' existence once more. But the scariest part of all the stories were the endings. Because Yvall could only be left to imagine what the creatures truly were. And now, climbing that staircase, those creatures that only existed in his imagination he would have to face. His heart beat faster and faster as the reality set in of his mission. He would most likely not return alive. But it would be worth it, it would be all worth it to see his sister alive again.
