58 - A rabbit hole

“You are saying the child will be some sort of superhuman?”

The girl in his arms nodded before she looked up and smiled.

“Carrying and giving birth to such a child has its complications, but don’t worry, I have arranged everything for her,” she assured him. He was kind of worried.

The girl giggled as he kissed her head as thanks, and the last few blissful days felt incredibly short. Every waking moment they were having it like a pair of rabbits trying to populate the whole forest by themselves. Not only he, it seemed, was trying to forget something awful with tons of unadulterated fleshy pleasures.

It was understandable when he learned that Ana had an abortion. Healing magic dealt with all the physical complications but the mental scar couldn’t have been as simple. She had needed someone to drag her out of that awful place.

What he thought would be a one-night-stand had turned into much deeper of a rabbit hole. What could he even say to the girl? Could he have helped with the issue? Sure, he could have tried his best but he was no doctor or genealogist. Dissecting anything was never his thing and advanced biology mostly just flew over his head.

He wanted to tell her that she should have consulted him first but she probably had decided against that for a good reason. Adrin also dared not give her false hope.

Healing your own body was a lot easier as you could tell if something went wrong, but healing others was a whole other thing. This was one of those things which he or anyone should never attempt without proper guidance or training.

That issue aside, no man just could say no or even let his hands off one of the top beauties in the whole kingdom. Ana was just animatedly gorgeous.

The bright red hair, a bit curlier than the older lady, was now in a huge cute mess. Those lush thick lips kissed his chest as if to thank him or probably tease him. The soft and slim but perfectly curved youthful body squirmed as he teased her sensitive spots.

“No, don’t tempt me anymore,” she purred, “mama had to go to work today.”

“Mama?” Adrin asked perplexedly.

“I’m to carry the [Lightbringer] child, remember, but don’t worry, I’m not in the mood yet.”

“Right,” Adrin sighed.

Hindsight was twenty-twenty. He should have magically vasectomized himself for his own good.

Ana rolled her eyes as she got up and off the bed.

“You worry too much, we girls aren’t as helpless,” she reminded him while opening her wardrobe. “We aren’t like those girls in your old world. Not even close,” she insisted. “And a smart girl will never give herself freely to men, as it will just cheapen herself.”

Right again. She could blast him off the bed at any time if she wanted to.

Women had an even footing here compared to the others. Might be on even better footing, considering their raw potential.

Adrin had shared with her what his old world was like and Ana had been a good listener. He had shared both good and bad memories from that world, and she had done pretty much the same with her growing-up sob stories.

“And Adrin, dear, please do try to accept the maidservants, tolerate at least a dozen girls if you can. That’s the minimum norm, and you will do them and yourself a huge favor. Besides, it is a big part of their job and privilege,” she added.

“Privilege? I don’t see how that is going to help anyone,” he replied.

Ana turned towards him, still half-dressed, and made sure he saw her rolling her eyeballs dramatically. She just couldn’t believe her ears.

“Others won’t have seen you as a huge threat if you have acted normally,” she said as she turned towards the huge mirror again. “A spoiled young master is easier to handle and less likely to be targeted by assassins. And you should realize how envious every maidservant here is of Lily, as she will become a formal family member when the child is born.”

“I see,” Adrin said. ‘Good for her,’ he lamented.

No wonder the maidservants were so ‘motivated’ to get in bed with him.

He hated to admit it, but Ana was right again. A known constant is easier to handle than an unknown variable.

People wouldn’t take drastic measures if they thought simpler measures would do the job. Throwing clueless girls at him would be probably cheaper and had much less risk than paying a trained assassin to take him out.

And there were a lot of bodies to throw around. Ana had opened his eyes with her bedtime stories. The number of indentured servants in this city alone was staggering when he finally knew where to look. Adrin was unpleasantly surprised when he first learned about them as he had thoughtlessly assumed the faces he had seen were free men.

Six out of ten of the mundane everyday workforce were slaves, and many of them were born into servanthood. He had it all wrong as most people who were doing the dirty work, like pulling the carts or cleaning the street, were debt-ridden, indentured servants. Most men worked in the huge farms or gardens, and some were willing to take the risk to go on dungeon delving as literally slave meatshields.

Unlike the modern world, prisons were only reserved for the meanest of means. Even caught bandits would be turned into slaves as they need every hand available.

And the most heinous criminals didn’t stay very long in prisons. The very worst were executed and others would serve in the servant-army as there was an undead siege actively going on. A pampered young master like him is simply blind to this business going on in the background.

Needless to say, the maidservants where most teenage girls would end up. Not many girls would have the backbone to work hard on the farms, and even fewer dared to venture into the dungeons.

But Ana was saying that he could reduce the threat over his life by simply giving in to the temptation? Knocking up the maidservants would do them a favor?

Adrin shook his head.

Reality sometimes was much crazier than fantasy.

“I can see you finally getting the gist of it,” she said as she returned to him after the girl was moderately presentable.

“I get it, boss,” Adrin chuckled and pulled her tiny waist to him.

No, he could never let this tiny waist go, ever. Ana sighed and pulled his head into her modest chest and hugged his head.

“I don’t want to ever lose you,” she whispered as the girl’s heart hammered loudly. “Please tell me that you’ll do as I say. I won’t force you to do anything you don’t like, but at least try to win the two girls back.”

“You mean Emi and Nerina?”

“Yes,” she sighed as she played with his hair. “The two men accompanying them are as shady as the seven hells. Their background is picture perfect but nobody in their positions is ever picture perfect. I suspect both of them are trained to be players. Naturally, you will think this is all about you as the center of all, but no, it is not about you at all. It is just people trying to grasp as much power as they can.”

Adrin pulled his head back in surprise. He looked the young lady in the eyes, “then why do you keep it quiet all this time, why don’t you tell me earlier?”

“Because I don’t know if I can trust you enough,” the girl kissed his head. “And now I do.”

‘Just because we had sex?’ The thought crossed his mind.

Ana chuckled, “I know that look, and yes, I can tell what a man made off from the way they treated a girl when no one is looking.” Her wide open searching eyes told him she had more thoughts which she decided to keep to herself.

Adrin sighed. Ana probably had dozens of such tutors to teach her all about it. However, the rabbit hole was much deeper than he thought.

Like she had said, he had first thought that the girls were targeted because of him. He had become a fool to forget that the girls had their unique talents.

The two probably had decided not to tell him about everything they could do or what they wanted in life. They also might not have a chance to express themselves or show off.

Adrin had been oblivious of the elephant in the room. He knew that he hadn’t always been the brightest bulb in the room as all he knew was how the damn bulb worked. He had no idea how to even begin to win the girls back.

“I’m not asking you to bed them, just rekindle your friendship. Don’t say a thing about the two men, just focus on your ties with them,” Ana perfectly read his mind once again. “Be a friend they could still rely on. I’ll see you again in a week or two.”

“So they know who to run to when they are in trouble,” he nodded. Adrin let the busy girl go just a little, “business trip?”

“Business trip, yes, we are going to make lots of money love, but I’m already running late,” she smiled, kissed his nose, and squirmed out of his hold.

The girl running off to work made him feel like he was a stay-at-home daddy.

But the pretty happy family picture inside his head was dismantled by reality when the maidservants rushed in right after their young Matriarch left. All of them had rosy cheeks as they worked to tidy the huge mess in the room.

Adrin silently kept his eyes on those lovely waving hips and wide exposed cleavages as they also stole glances at him. A technically cripple who could make the young and vibrant Matriarch stay in the same room for a few days. The girls also seemed to be enamored, all thanks to this new pretty face he had.

A troublesome thought haunted his mind with each eye contact.

‘I have to DO these pretties just to avoid assassins?’ he mused and groaned inside.

He already had a few uninvited visits according to Ana. She didn’t know why Bella had hidden that fact from him as the older woman was the one who had kept them away. Quite a few burned-to-ashes corpses had to be cleaned up for the first year alone.

No man wouldn’t love women’s company, but now it began to sound like a lot of work. It was hard when, in his nerd-brain, these maidservants looked just like young college girls cosplaying as sexy maids. He couldn’t just ask them to come to bed.

The maids finished their work cleaning the room in almost no time at all or maybe he had only felt that way. They all gave him bows together before lining up for the door.

Adrin groaned and quickly mustered his courage.

“Wait,“ he called and the maids froze.

“Yes, young master?” the eldest one answered for the rest. “Is there anything else?”

“Your mistress left a little bit too early, but she said-” he paused to let the maids fill in the blanks themselves. The three looked between themselves with growing bright red faces.

If he was going to do this, he would be blaming Ana. He was sure the redhead wouldn’t even mind it one bit. Asking her man to sleep with other girls would never be an easy feat. The girl would avoid doing such a thing if she thought it wasn’t crucial.

“I’m Judy,” the eldest introduced herself. “This is Ena, and the small one is Cathy. We’ll try our best to meet your needs, young master.”

Clothes began to slip off dainty shoulders and fall on the bed as the maidservants approached with gleaming excited eyes. Adrin was buried in three pairs of warm boobs and excited giggles shortly after that. He didn’t ask for all three of them to stay, but it seemed his awful reputation had preceded him.

Try all he could not enjoy it but it wasn’t easy with young girls who were more than just eager to please their young master. It was impossible, especially when the girls were probably trained in the virtual world.

And in the way Judy later collapsed in a heap, he would say the girl had enjoyed it too.

“It's true, he is a monster,” mumbled the other girl under her breath.

The comment revealed what had been floating from mouth to mouth. Someone had told him that something like this would happen to him in the future but he didn’t believe her at the time.

Adrin kind of missed the older lady and he tried to keep the thought of her possibly carrying his other child deep in memory. He didn’t even want to think about it.

In the end, all of the maidservants were reduced to a mess of worn-out limbs. Mana-less girls couldn’t even be compared to mages, that was one thing for sure.

Ana should be right, and with this, there should be less likely attempts on his life. She better be or his sacrifices would’ve been for nothing.

Adrin could sleep better with that thought.
