Chapter 3: The Dusk Witch

Chapter 3: The Dusk Witch

Jung Woo

“Haa…. That damn old hag….”

Right now I was in front of the classroom where nineteen other students were seated. At the moment, the teacher was explaining that I had transferred in. So why was I currently in this situation? Well let’s go back thirty minutes ago…

At that time, I was currently in the headmistress’ room. The room was very spacious. Bookshelves lined both walls on the side, filled with expensive and arcane looking books. In the middle of room there were two very comfortable looking sofas with a thick oak tree table between them. Above was an elegant looking glass chandelier. Right now my teacher and I were seated across from each other, sipping teas from our cups. I waited for about ten minutes, enjoying the nice scent coming from the cup before finally getting tired of the wait and breaking the silence.

“So old hag, why did you call me all the way here to London….”

“Haa….who are you and what did you do to my adorable disciple~”

“....Either way I’m impressed that you were able to pull me away from the front lines….”

“The title Dusk Witch still has some power in the military you know?”

Alexandria Di-Leon, a.k.a. The Dusk Witch.

Ten years ago she had been the youngest ever commander at the age of twenty eight and the first female to ever take command of a NATO region. The region that was she was tasked with at the time of the “First Invasion” was East Asia. Due to her prowess and bravery she was able to push back the yokai invasion in her region, but unfortunately not before Korea, the country where the invasion began, was totaled and fell. During the invasion, she was the one who found that the yokai were not the only ones who came, but also mythical creatures did also. With this knowledge, she was able to find out about and develop Celestial Weapons, paving the way for the counter attack against the invasion. For her actions, she was hailed as the savior of humanity and had been promoted to the Commanding General (CG) of the new government that protected the remaining survivors, the United Human Front (UHF). Even though many great expectations were put on her, she surprised everyone by serving as the Commander for only three years. She then retired from the military and became the headmistress of Olympus Academy, but not before shocking everyone and putting me in command of the Leviathan Company (CO).

There was an uproar about that decision, with many people calling it crazy as back then I was still only eleven years old. For crying out loud, he’s still five years too young to serve in the military! Due to the sharp decline in the population, the military had made changes and made it where you had to be sixteen now instead of eighteen to serve, otherwise there would not be enough Soldiers. All those dissent, however didn’t last long.

On my first mission as commander, I single handedly took out an S rank Yokai. For the extermination of S rank yokais, a company of elite were sent out to take care of them, which was why my unit had been sent out but the eleven year old I had done it by myself, which quickly silenced everyone in the upper echelon about whether I had the qualification of taking command.

During the past two years, the Leviathan CO, already known as an elite special force unit, quickly rose to be known as the strongest unit within the UHF and I slowly became a legend of sort. By the age of fifteen, currently I was part of what had become known to all the Soldiers as the Trinity Seven, the seven Soldiers who were clearly stronger than the rest of the troops. Supposedly the strength of the Trinity Seven and the next competition was as far as heaven and earth. I had become such an important piece for the military that it should be practically impossible to get me away, but somehow my teacher had pulled it off.

“Haa…it sound just like you, teacher. So anyways, once again why’d you call me all the way out here? My unit is quite busy you know? Even though I left my second in command in charge while I’m gone, I can’t be gone for too long”

“Ho ho… actually, you have now been put on reserve status for the next three ytears?”

“WHAT?!?!?!”

“For the next three years, you will be enrolled here at Olympus Academy as a freshman. Well, you are a month late in enrolling. Study hard to catch up and make up for the past month okay?”

“….Ha?!?! Even though there are many things I want to rebuke about your comment, let me ask you this. Do you really think the UHF will just let me be gone for such a long time as 3 years?”

“Already got it approved~”

“….and may I ask how?”

“Children don’t need to know~”

“….and may I ask why you think I’ll do as you say and attend school? School is pointless for a Soldier like me…”

“I think you know the reason why better than I do, right?”

My body unintentionally shivers at those words and her smile, recalling her past “trainings”. Seeing my reaction, Alexandria smiles.

“Anyways, you’ll be attending this academy of mine from now on for the next three years. Learn many things here and make a lot of friends. Since you are part of the “Trinity Seven”, please go easy on my children, okay? Your uniform has already been made so please go change. Your homeroom teacher will pick you up and take you to your classroom. You are dismissed”

After saying all she wanted, she stopped and just looked at me. Sighing dejectedly, I get up and start to head towards the door. As I am about to open them to get out, my teacher says one last thing.

“Don’t worry, I still remember our promise too. I will definitely save “her” and bring her back”

“…!!”

I turn and look back into the office. The teacher had already moved from the sofas to her desk in front of a large glass window, looking over paperwork. Knowing that she wouldn’t say anything more, I turn back and leave the room, clenching my fist and gritting my teeth.

Alexandria Di-Leon

“Headmistress, he certainly is as impressive as they say”

“Of course, he is my disciple after all”

“Even though I erased all presence of myself, he saw through it all and looked at me”

“If he couldn’t do at least that much, he wouldn’t be qualified to be under me, Shadow”

Along with those words, a shadow materialized at the corner of the office. As figure become clearer, what stood there was a tall slim man, standing at 6’4. He had curly long hair and had penetrating blue eyes. Shadow, as was his alias from his magic, was the one who commanded the Dusk Witch’s Special Operation Forces (SOF) during her tenure. He was known to never be detected by anyone if he didn’t wish for it and succeeded in infiltrating even the heart of the Yokai forces without being spotted.

“I wonder what drives him so far that at that young tender age he’s able to be so strong…”

“Frank, you do know that I was assigned as the CO of East Asia during the “First Invasion” before becoming the CG of the UHF forces right?”

“Of course, headmistress”

“Well when I first heard that the Yokai invaded Korea the day after it happened, I went to investigate where they first appeared to find some clues. What I found there, however, shocked me. In the middle of all the destruction, in between all the debris and human bodies, was a little five year old boy surrounded in a circle by piles of dead yokais. Right beside him was a Deep black Katana with unbelievably strong heat radiating from it”

“….!! You don’t mean?!”

“As sharp as ever huh, Frank? Anyways your thoughts are correct. That little child was Lee Jung Woo. I don’t know how he got in possession of one, but that Katana was the first ever Celestial Weapon. When I was holding the Katana, inspecting it, a voice so deep that it sent shivers down my spine spoke to me:

*A human, huh? Girl! Take the child here and train him. Make him strong enough that he will be able to wield me and I will promise you that he will save your pathetic race*

Hearing thoughts come from a Katana shocked me. As I looked deeply into the blade, an outline of a ridiculously strong beast was there. After that, I began to conduct research into Celestial Weapons and was able to find out the way to use them with the help of Jung Woo. It’s pretty embarrassing to say, but the real savior of humanity wasn’t me, but in truth a tiny five year old boy…”

“…no wonder he’s so strong. So why did you bring such a person to our school? He really shouldn’t have anything he can learn here, he’s probably stronger than all of us, except for you headmistress”

“Because I wanted to show him how to live a normal life. From the time I found him in all that chaos, all he has ever done as train. All morning till even way past when the moon rose, he would just focus solely on training and becoming stronger. That desire even scared me. I do, however, regret accepting to train him and letting him join the military at his young age, even though he’s the one who begged me to. When the Yokai invade again, and yes they will, that boy will be the one who leads humanity to salvation and save us all. But for now, just for these 3 short years, I want to live like a normal kid…”

“Ho… you really do care for him a lot, don’t you headmistress?”

“I think of him as my actual son, the one I never had and never will… Anyways Frank, please continue to keep an eye on those fools at the higher up within the UHF…”

“Understood, headmistress”

While bowing, he reverts back into a shadow and departs from the room. Seeing him finally leave, I spin my seat around and look out the window, seeing the clear blue sky outside. To the child who will be attending school starting today, I say in a soft voice.

“Don’t worry Jung Woo yah, I will make sure that Hyo Joo returns and stays by your side again…”
