The minimum age requirement to attend the Academy Of Vrunise was 10 years old. The students who attended here were given a few courses to pursue and deepen their knowledge. The courses could range from 2-5 years.
Lots of talented individuals who created a new era from their knowledge of magic derive from here. Even though the school is famous for being ‘fair’, students who surpass their expectations can easily graduate.
In other words, the talented individuals.
Magic is fun but learning? I hate that so much I could die.
The carriage wheels kept on spinning until it came to an abrupt stop. The academy wasn't far from the house where I previously lived. The journey only took 3-4 hours by carriage. Some students who live in another state opt for a more expensive and faster option. That is to rent or buy a Skystride which allows them to travel through the air.
“Miss, we have reached the academy.”
I held up my hand and I opened the carriage door. The windows of the carriage were closed off by a curtain, making me feel secure but at the same time, hindering my view.
Immediately after I opened the carriage door, I was greeted by a few people. They were wearing a white suit with a hint of yellow around the collar. On their chest was a symbol of the house they belonged to.
These guys are likely upperclassmen. I don’t want to deal with them. I know it’s formality but can’t they go to other ladies?
“Welcome to the Academy Of Vrunise. Virtue and honesty.”
They bowed down to me with their hands on their chest. They didn't bow down like a servant to its master, they instead showed formality and politeness.
“Thank you for greeting me.”
I step off my carriage with the help of one of the upperclassmen. It is common knowledge for a man to help a lady get off a carriage while holding the lady's hand.
“I must once again thank you for greeting me in such a manner.”
I bowed down to show my gratitude. My words have an underlined meaning to it. Taking it at face value would make people happy to be of help. But seeing the meaning behind it would make anybody mad.
It means ‘Why are you greeting me like that? You look like a fool’
They smile at me and politely escort me to the gate of the academy. A part of me wished that they understood my word but another part of me hoped that no additional trouble was caused by that greeting.
The upperclassmen left me alone in front of the gate and went to greet another lady.
Why are you only greeting women?
Before I could finish criticizing them, I accidentally saw the lady they were greeting. A beautiful and lustrous blond hair that reached her waist. Diamond-colored eyes that have a brilliant light shining from them. A stunning white dress that didn't seem lavish but perfectly complimented her soft innocent-like features. She was truly angelic.
The other students around her also seem to notice how beautiful she is as their expressions are full of surprises and adornment. It is not an overstatement to say she is the prettiest girl in the academy.
While everybody was distracted by her, I quickly proceeded to the gate and entered the school grounds. In front of the gate was a fountain where a lot of students were chatting with each other. Behind the fountain was the academy. The academy was enormous. Bigger than the mansion I lived in before.
The walls were decorated with lights and windows for the classroom. The overall color of the walls was white. The whole academy looked like a palace for royalty.
As the students were instructed to wait at the front gate near the fountain, I sat down on a bench near the entrance. After waiting for a few seconds, the girl who was previously escorted by the upperclassmen enters through the gate.

The people nearby immediately glanced at her and their attention seemed to be fixed on this lady. She scanned her surroundings for a while before taking her seat near the fountain. The murmurs about the lady could be heard from the crowd.
The lady seems scared and uncomfortable.
Though I feel pity for her to a certain extent, I have no intention of helping her, a stranger.
After a few minutes, an announcement could be heard from the echo orb surrounding the academy. It acts as a tool for broadcasting a message to the whole school.
“Welcome to the Academy Of Vrunise, dear students. I’m sure you have studied hard to attend our academy. We apologize for the wait. The new students shall be brought to the academy’s hall for a short announcement accompanied by the upperclassmen. After that, students will be brought to their classroom. The list of the names and classrooms will be on the board in front of the hall.”
After the broadcast ended, a few upperclassmen greeted us and guided us to the hall. While on the way, I caught a glimpse of a boy. Nothing about the boy was eye-catching. White hair, blue eyes, and an arrogant demeanor.
We accidentally made eye contact. I quickly look the other way, trying to avoid any awkward moment. I kept walking along with the crowd of students until the upperclassmen stopped.
“We’ve arrived at the academy’s hall. Welcome to the Academy Of Vrunise”
As one of the upperclassmen said that, the large door that led to the hall opened and a bright light shone out from inside.
The inside was like a theater, with several floors and a big chandelier in the middle.
How much money did they waste to build this?
“What a waste of money” I whispered underneath my breath.
Even though I was sure nobody heard me, I was still scared of the fact. Worried that somebody heard me, I examined my surroundings.
The same white-haired boy looked at me, surprised. He grins at me and mouths out the word.
“I know, right?’
That little interaction made me giggle. He also chuckled at it.
Slowly, the students made their way into the hall and I followed the flow of the crowd. I found a seat close to the exit.
I saw the white-haired boy choose a seat 3 rows down from mine. Then, a wave of gasp of astonishment can be heard from the door, just outside of the hall.
I turn around, trying to get a glimpse of the commotion. My eyes immediately landed on the same beautiful young lady which I saw at the entrance.
She accidentally saw me and quickly walked towards me. She smiles at me warmly. Such a simple action but it made everybody around us turn red.
“Mind if I sit here?” She points at the seat next to me.
She clearly looks uncomfortable with the attention given to her.
Personally, I could not care less about her and wanted to turn her down. I don’t want to garner attention or malice on the first day of school.
However, there was no way I could turn her down without receiving any backlash from everybody around us.
“Of course, you're welcome to” After forcing myself, I finally was able to get the sentence out of my mouth.
She smiles at me, gesturing her gratitude and friendliness.
As I did not know her at all, we just sat there in an awkward silence.
Ahh, this is so awkward. Should I say something to her? But I don’t want to be her friend. I should learn how to socialize with people better…
“Are you from here?” She broke the silence.
“Yeah, I’m from The Desire Summit.” I gave her a simple answer.
“What a coincidence! I’m also from there. Oh, my name is Rosalyn.” I was surprised by her name.
“My name is also Rosalyn,” I said to her with a cheerful and bright smile.
Perhaps because of my sudden friendliness, she looked at me smiling radiantly.
“We have the same name! I wonder how I’ve never seen you before”
Despite knowing it was just a harmless and innocent question, I was once again reminded of my origin.
I’m not their child…
“That’s because I was adopted by one of the nobles there. I wasn’t born a noble.”
Nobles usually view themselves as higher than commoners. No matter how friendly she is, deep down, she must have felt superior compared to the nobles. When attending this school, I was ready to be bullied and looked down on.
Her silence was deafening. It was clear that she was taken aback.
“I’m sorry for asking that. If you don’t mind, can you tell me about your past? I would love to be your friend.”
At that moment, she truly looks upset and concerned. Her concern for me made me look at her from a different angle.
“I don’t remember much about my past. Apparently, my parents adopted me when they found me in an alleyway when they were in the Lust Federation. According to them, I was injured and maybe that was what caused me to lose my memories.”
Perhaps because she was willing to lend me an ear, I kept on telling her about my upbringing. It was as if I too were enchanted by her beauty, making me lower my guard.
What am I saying? It’s as if I want her to pity me.
I watch her face as it slowly turns red and her eyes turn watery. The surrounding student tried to approach her to calm her down when she suddenly held my hand.
“Rosalyn, I decided I want to be your friend! I won’t take no for an answer.”
She smiles at me warmly through her watery eyes and flustered face. Before I could give her an answer, a lecturer walked on the stage and stopped at the podium.
“Let’s continue this after the opening ceremony” she whispered with a bright smile.
Just like that, I got myself a friend on the first day of school.
