Chapter 3. Pre-emptive Final Boss Fight

Chapter 3. Pre-emptive Final Boss Fight

Snapping my fingers, I dissected the ‘space’ around me, before blinking the entire alleyway into the middle of a faraway mountain range. At the same time, the ground below me ripped open, sprouting numerous pillars of towering inferno. I quickly blinked myself into the sky, just as the entire alleyway, alongside the surrounding mountains, were engulfed in purgatory flames.

Mustering my ‘True Voice’, I yelled,

[It is time to wane oh ‘Third Lord of Gehenna’]

In response, a massive humanoid figure emerged out of the ashes and flames, towering over the surrounding mountains. Its jet-black body was an amalgamation of Demonic Prism, whilst its golden crown was borne out of the screams of the damned. It draped a cloak of purgatory flames, and wore armour forged from the remains of countless Lesser Gods. Opening its abyssal maw, the ‘True Demon’ before me snarled.

[Vynl–]

At the same time, the air around us trembled, whilst the remaining mountains around us were all flattened by the sheer aura of the Prism within that True Voice.

I muttered in a low voice, “Sorry, but I can’t let you run amok in the human world any further, Belial.”

Raising a finger, I tore apart the surrounding ‘space’ for a second time, before blinking what remained of the mountain range into my personal domain. An endless, pure white void presented itself before us. Below was a perfectly flat ground of silver, whilst from above, an infinite number of multi-colored strings were hanging from the nonexistent ceiling.

[Alright kiddo–]

I cracked my knuckles.

[Let me show you why your boss learnt never to mess with me]

____________

Within a perfectly white void, two individuals stood diametrically opposed to another.

[Dea Deceptor–]

The first was a jet-black Demon of continental proportions. Reaching out its blazing hands, it formed a massive magic circle before itself. A million souls screamed out in agony as a wave of Demonic Prism spilled into the void. The Prism soon coalesced into the shape of a massive blade within the Demon’s hands.

The figure before it remarked with a hint of amusement.

“I haven’t heard that title in a long time.”

Floating before the Demon’s gargantuan pupils, was what appeared to be a tiny blue spec. But upon closer inspection, one would have been able to make out the figure of a young girl in a raincoat. Her sky-blue hair flowed smoothly through the shimmering white void, whilst in her hands was a disproportionately-massive scythe. Stifling a giggle, she spoke, her small voice ricocheting throughout the void.

“I expected more from you, the youngest ‘Lord Of Gehenna’.”

Against the girl’s taunts, the Demon’s towering body began to move. Rather than immediately lashing out, it reached out its hand, spawning countless magic circles each the size of an entire mountain. Flaming spears of pure Prism shot out towards the girl’s immediate area.

“Still using magic circles? As expected of a young chick. It’s a shame your boss didn’t teach you better!”

The girl swung her scythe sideways, and from its tip protracted a small line of white Prism. The line expanded outwards, intercepting the fireballs in a fiery explosion. At the same time, the girl began channelling her own Prism, forming a multitude of glowing white blades surrounding her.

What followed next was a high velocity battle, as both the gigantic Demon and the young girl began accelerating to blinding speeds. Massive explosions began erupting everywhere at once, accompanied by a cacophony of shockwaves to form a chaotic harmony of utter ruination. Black and white Prism whirled and clashed in thousands of strands, gliding through the void like dancing swordsmen. And just as the battle seemed to stalemate–

“Aagh–!”

The girl abruptly stopped, dropping the tattered scythe in her hands. She looked down at her own body, and the massive hole burnt into her chest. Glaring at the opponent before her, she mumbled,

“Must be nice, having a Prism-made body. You’re not hampered by friction at all, are you?”

Rather than replying, the Demon instead swung its sword. Before the tiny girl, the colossal blade resembled more of an unstoppable tidal wave of fire and lava.

Reaching out her bruised hands, the girl yelled out,

“That won’t work, silly!”

A massive, invisible barrier formed in front of her. The mass of fire and lava crashed into the barrier, but the Demon’s sword was rebound harmlessly. As the flames before her cleared, the girl readied herself for a counterattack. But just as she was about to move, her body froze stiff.

The flames had cleared away, but the massive Demon was gone.

Eyes frantic, she searched around. Only to turn her head upwards at the sudden onslaught of Prism. She spread out her hands above her to summon a barrier, but it was too late. Her figure was engulfed within a hurricane of raging fire which crashed into the ground in an earth-shaking explosion.

[An outdated style]

Laughter filled the air as the Demon’s form slowly began materialising from thin air. It raised its sword high, before plunging it down for a second time.

[Fossil]

The ground below began to crack, as a sea of death and ruin began to envelope the void, slowly overwriting the pristine white. But just as the Demon was about to strike again–

[You really want to to play with fire]

A massive burst of Prism shot forward, repelling the Demon’s sword. And rising from the ashes and flames, was the young girl clad in sky-blue. Prism surged from her body in massive waves, slowly burning away the Demon’s flames. The void around them began to scream and chant as a massive ring of fire slowly enveloped her body. Holding a massive scythe in its hands, the girl spoke,

[This is how you play with fire]

The Demon smiled with glee at the being. A sight which sent Gods and Demons trembling aeons ago was unfolding before its very own eyes. And seeing it for itself, an unfamiliar feeling of ecstasy began to slowly sprout from its cold dead heart.

The Demon then looked down at its cracked sword and armour, and for the first time in its life, it could begin to feel the limits of its nigh-infinite reserves of Prism. It smiled once more, revelling gleefully in the knowledge that it could still grow stronger. Revelling in the uncertainty that for the first time, it may not make it out of a battle alive.

The thrill of a life-and-death battle was…intoxicating.

Looking back at the spec of a girl, the Demon screamed,

[Perhaps aeons ago]

They both lifted their blades.

[But the past is already now]

And with that, the demon thrust its sword forward. A massive magic circle formed around its body at the same time, creating an unstoppable blast of Demonic Prism. At the same time, the girl swung her scythe.

Scythe met a sword. ‘God’ against a Demon. Past against its present, and from the indescribable distance of that clash, the void collapsed in the spectacle of cosmic battle.
