Chapter 1 - Exile

Chapter 1 - Exile

Fikre's mind and body erupt with pain and foreign thoughts. Time seems to slow down as the unknown object tears his chest cavity open. He loses consciousness for a brief moment, his head spinning with dreams of a man with a dark mask clad in purple armor.

Fikre regains consciousness moments later to find himself lying on the ground in a pool of blood. He looks down and sees the middle portion of his torso has been completely obliterated. What... the hell... hit me... Fikre closes his eyes and exhales, too weak now to fight against the slow creep of death. Crowds of his neighbors gather around him, gasping and crying at the sight. The sobs turn into stunned silence, however, as Fikre's wounds begin healing. He gathers the strength to lift his head and look at himself once again; his entire body is glowing with a bright yellow light. The crowds around him gasp as every molecule of Fikre's being is separated and rearranged in front of them into a terrifying entity.

"What is that?" A frightened bystander asks.

Fikre's entire being is reassembled by a seemingly invisible force into a hulking, 20-foot tall reptilian monstrosity that barely fits inside of the city road. The creature stumbles around for a minute before releasing a shrill howl of pain and confusion.

"Get inside! It's going to kill us all!" The townsfolk run inside their homes, sheltering from the terrible beast.

Fikre panics internally as he struggles to speak. Whatever has happened to him, however, has scrambled his senses. He looks down to see his fellow townsfolk running away from him in terror. Why are they all down there? Why are they running? I need a doctor! He crawls his way towards the city's healing center, too weak to stand up straight. People continue running away from him in terror as he makes his way through the street. Please... help...

As he crawls for medical attention. He sees a group of guards approaching him. He tries to call for help, but only a guttural noise is produced by his vocal chords. For some reason, the guards stop about 50 feet short of him. What are they doing? The guards unleash a flurry of arrows towards him, causing him to try to roll out of the way; something blocks him from doing so, however. He yells in panic and braces for the pain, but the arrows simply bounce right off of him. What the hell are they doing!? He runs for the city gate in an attempt to escape the attacks of the guards. Why is it so small? He accidentally bursts through the gate, tearing it clean out of the massive stone wall around the city. How did I do that? Fikre runs away into the night, away from his friends, his family, and his perfect life.

The man screams in pure agony, the ritual now complete. His skin and flesh melt off of his body as he feels the divine power enter his being. "I've finally done it!" He exclaims through his pain. "After all these years, I've finally broken the bonds the ancient theurges placed to seal off the divine powers!" He looks over to the purple and black suit of armor he used as a power source for the ritual. "The monks will be coming to reclaim this soon. I must leave here as soon as I can and discover the extent of this divine power." He looks at his now-skeletal hand and clenches it tight. "This world is mine, now."

Fikre runs for what seems like hours. He finally wears himself out and has to stop to take a breather. Fuck... what... happened... Fikre walks over to a small lake to take a drink. He tries to draw water, but the water just slips through his claws... Wait, what? What happened to my... He looks in the reflection of the water and sees himself for the first time of that night. What he sees in the reflection is anything but human; he's been turned into some sort of gargantuan red-scaled quadruped. No... what did that thing do to me!? Fikre faints at the side of the lake in sheer horror.

"General, sir!" The lieutenant runs into the barracks, panting and sweating as he enters. "There have been reports throughout the city of strange occurrences! The East quadrant claims a massive lizard, and the North quadrant claims some sort of insectoid creature is killing at random!" The General's brow furrows.

"He did it... that son of a bitch did it." The General says to himself.

"What, sir?"

"Nothing, lieutenant. If I were you, I would get your family out of the city as fast as possible. Something is about to happen that this kingdom can't survive. I-" Before the General can finish speaking, the ground begins shaking and a massive crack in the wall opens, revealing seemingly impossible geometry on the other side: it opens up to what seems to be a wholly new dimension. "The night roads are opening! It's too late! Get out of here, lieutenant!" The lieutenant backs away in fear and runs to alert the other guards. Several black monstrous creatures emerge from the crack in the wall. "It's been an honor serving you, your majesty." The General draws his sword and prepares to fend off the hordes of the Uncreated Night.
