Prologue

Underneath the castle of the current demon lord, there was a mysterious room which was locked by an ancient seal. For years, generations of demon lords have unsuccessfully tried to release the seal and enter the mysterious room as legend states that the one to do so would be granted unlimited power. In a world with endless war between the humans and the race they call ‘monsters’, the demon lords desperately tried to gather as much power as they could in hopes of finally ending the war in their favour. But for thousands of years they remained unsuccessful, until the current demon lord succeeded the throne. With both great prowess and even greater intellect, she ruled the monster kingdom better than any of her predecessors and like her predecessors has worked on opening the sealed door. But unlike her predecessors she has managed to start eroding away the power of the seal bit by bit, and soon, she will be the first to obtain the unlimited power foretold in the legends.

Somewhere else

A brown-haired 32 year old man was walking down a corridor holding a folder with ‘top secret’ printed on one of the sides. He was lean and of average height, wearing a loose fitting white shirt and baggy green khaki pants tucked into brown combat boots, but even his attire could not hide that he had well sculpted muscles. He walked with confidence and a straight back, and had a dangerous glint in his dark blue eyes; if one was to properly observe him, they could tell that he was a fighter.

As he reached the end of the corridor, he turned to his right and knocked on a metal door with a small sliding compartment where one’s eyes would reach. As the compartment opened it showed a pair of eyes belonging to someone inside the room. As the other man saw the 32 year old, recognition flashed in his eyes and immediately the door was opened.

The 32 year old went straight inside without saying a word and was greeted by a group of people; all of whom were dressed formally, either in a dark suit or military attire. A man who was dressed in formal military attire walked up to the 32 year old and shook his hand whilst introducing him to everyone around them.

“This everyone, is Kyle Dyland; special ops and the one who discovered the plans of the terrorist cell that has been targeting our government buildings in the recent year. Without him we would still be at our wits ends with these bastards.”

“Just doing service to my country, sir.”

Kyle replied with a straight face and was immediately given warm reception amongst those there, he soon gave the man; who was actually a general, the folder he had been carrying claiming it as his recent reports on the terrorist cell, and thus the war council began.

The council itself did not need Kyle specifically; he was only there to provide extra insight to the documents and primary source info of the terrorist cell to his superiors. The meeting ended after approximately 3 hours and only when all of the council had left did Kyle begin to leave. As he exited the room, he suddenly felt dizzy and saw the room spin around him, falling he managed to lean on the wall and catch himself. Then as soon as the feeling came, it left. Confused and worried he immediately went to the nearest nursing centre to check his health. Once there he booked a quick check up with the doctor. Because of his high ranking in the army he was immediately let in once the doctor had a break.

The results were strange as it seemed that there was nothing physically wrong with him as far as the doctor could tell, suggesting further scans he told Kyle that it was most likely a false alarm ad that he would return with the scans immediately.

Figuring that there was not much he could do about his situation, he went to see if any new missions had been messaged to him. But as he was reaching his quarters, he felt another dizzy spell come over him, this time being strong enough to have him on his knees. Suddenly he felt as if something was being pulled out of his body and the looser that something was, the less coherent his thoughts became until finally he blacked out; his last thoughts wondering if he was going to die.

Chapter 1

In dark place, Kyle awoke to the sounds of metal clinking against metal. Still incoherent he sat in a daze until he noticed cold metal wrapped around his hands and feet, and then he sobered up almost instantly. His first instinct was to assess his situation but he found that hard to do when he couldn’t even see his own body.

‘Ok, cool yourself Kyle, assess your situation first.’

He decided to list every bit of information that he could perceive, as little as that information was.

‘First off, I currently am being kept in a dark place with absolutely no light sources or windows, a cell maybe? Secondly I smell something earthly and the air is rather damp, perhaps I’m underground. Thirdly, the fact that I’m being bound by metal shackles whilst also being naked means that I’ve been out for quite some time, drugs? But when?”

Deciding he had no choice but to wait for his captors to come to him before he could get any answers, he mentally prepared himself for whatever torture they would give him. Time past both slowly and yet far too quickly, seeing that simply waiting was getting himself stressed he decided to meditate while time passed.

Whilst meditating he noticed a unfamiliar sensation in and around his body, as if there was a light fire near him and the warmth was seeping into his very body. Deciding to try and identify the source of this feeling he tried to pinpoint this experience from his vast amount of other experiences.

‘Drugs, am I drugged? No, it doesn’t resemble any of the other drugs I was injected with and it also isn’t causing any noticeable damage, physically and mentally.’

‘This doesn’t resemble anything I’ve ever felt before, it almost seemed natural and yet both foreign and … familiar?’

The sounds of footsteps awoke him from his thoughts, realising he had been too preoccupied with the feeling that he lost track of his surroundings, he admonished himself but upon realising that even if he did noticed, he would still be unable to do anything, he decided to pay his full attention to the his visitor.

Suddenly blue light flashed into his eyes, temporarily blinding him and making him squint as he tried to adjust to the sudden increase of light. His visitor hearing him grunt and seeing him squint, realised what they had done and immediately lessened the brightness of the light source.

“I’m terribly sorry; I had forgotten that you were left here in the dark. This light must be like a knife to your eyes.”

Kyle noticed that the voice seemed quite feminine and soft, and that they actually seemed apologetic for blinding him. Confused for a bit, he quickly put up his guard and wondered if this was some kind of psychological technique to weaken his mentality. Noticing his lack of input the person continued speaking.

“Yes, in fact I quite impressed with your behaviour, I would have reacted far more strongly if I was left in the dark for thousands of years.”

Kyle was expecting to have been captured by terrorists hell-bent on getting any secret information they could out of him. He had expected many things from aggressive to almost friendly behaviour, but not once did he expect this person to say what they just did, and for once in a very long time, Kyle was left thoughtless.

“… what?”
