CHAPTER 463
"But you didn't change. You still think what you did was right." Clayton evaded her easily. "You still think you're justified. I do not feel an ounce of regret at all. I'm no saint. I can't change you. I can't make you repent, so I'm handing you to the cops. May they help you."
"You can't do this!" The color drained from Yelena's face. She tried her hardest to take his phone away. "I know you don't love me, but you should think about Chester. You don't want him to have a convict as a mother, do you?"
Time and time again, Clayton dodged. Ultimately, his patience ran out, and he shoved Yelena away. "And he wouldn't have one if you never hurt my son. Harvey's our family, and yet you subject him to a life of agony. He sinks into despair, and you do nothing but watch. I almost lost him today. I was this close to losing my son, and yet you still don't think what you did was wrong."
Clayton shook his head. "You are a terrifying woman. I cannot begin to fathom how you even devised that plan. And to think I slept in the same room with you for more than twenty years… Disgusting."
"No, please! I beg you! Don't call the cops!" Fear finally caught up to her, and tears streamed down her cheeks. "I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I won't do it again. Please, forgive me. For Chester's sake."
Clayton looked at Harvey and shook his head. "No, I can't do that. Harvey's a good boy. You might be his stepmother, but he never made life hard for you. He gave you respect, but all he gained in return was malice. I will never show you forgiveness. Never."
"No, I beg you, please. For old times' sake, please don't do this to me." She shook her head violently. As she did so, she saw Harvey from the corner of her eye, and a stroke of inspiration struck her. The lady scrambled over to Harvey and held his arm. "Harvey! Harvey, I beg you, please don't let your
father call the cops. I'm sorry. I won't do it again. I'll change, I swear. I'll treat you as my own. You're a good kid, aren't you? You'll forgive me, right?" Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
Oh no. I'm not letting this b*tch convince Harvey. Austin went up to her and shoved her to the ground. "You almost got him killed. He cut himself right in front of you, but you did nothing. Nothing. You cannot find any repentance in that dark, evil heart of yours. Letting you stay is a safety hazard. You might come after Harvey again. Why should he forgive you?"
Harvey shot her an icy look. "He's right. You might take my kindness as a weakness once more. I won't harm anyone, but if anyone tries to hurt me, I will teach them a lesson. Mistakes are paid with punishment. That's how the world works."
"No… No!" She shook her head, tears streaming down her cheeks. "I know what I did was wrong, but Chester's innocent. He loves you. He can't face you if you send me to jail. What are you going to tell him?"
"Nothing. I heard everything." Someone opened the door, and in came Chester.
The sight of her son made Yelena freeze, but she scrambled to get up and wipe the tears off her face. She didn't want her son to see her in this state.
Chester approached his half-brother and stared at him for a moment. And then he knelt. His head was hung low, and tears fell to the ground. With a broken voice, he said, "I'm sorry, Harvey. I'm sorry for what my mother did to you. I didn't know. I would have stopped her if I did."
"What are you doing, Chester? Get up!" Yelena quickly tried to pull her son up. She didn't mind kneeling to Harvey, but she didn't want her son to do it.
"Let me do this! I owe him!" He pushed her away and raised his head. "Harvey, what my mother did was wrong. I never wanted her to do this, but she's still my mother. Please don't call the cops. Please, let her go. I'll do anything. Anything!"
"No, don't do this! Don't do this, Chester!" Yelena cried and screamed as she tried to pull him away. "I don't care even if I'm jailed. Just don't do this!"
Actual regret. She felt actual regret when she saw her son kneel before Harvey. She regretted doing what she did to Harvey, as her son had to pay the price of humiliation.
What she did, she did for her son. All she wanted was for him to be heir and lead the family. She didn't want him to live under the shadow of anyone, but her plan backfired. Now her son had to live in shame because of what she did. The realization of that wrought even more agony than killing her ever could.
She kept trying to pull him away. "Don't do this, Chester. I'll do the time. Don't do this!"
Chester shoved her away and banged his head against the ground. "Please, Harvey. If you let her go, we'll leave and settle down overseas. We won't come back ever again!"
"No, no, no!" Yelena's eyes went wide with fear, and she let out a scream. "You don't have to do this! I'll do the time! I'll do the time!"
If they were to leave the family, her son would be left with nothing. This would be akin to exile. Once enough time passed, the bond between Chester and Clayton would fade. He would even forget he had another son, and everything the Walker Family had would go to Harvey.
She sabotaged Harvey all so her son could become the heir of the Walker Family. She just wanted her son to have a better future, but now what she did would cost Chester everything. This was worse than putting her in jail.
"Chester, this is between me and Harvey!" Yelena quickly approached Harvey and grabbed his arm. "I'll do the time. I'll repent in jail, but Chester's your brother. Your blood brother! You know he truly cares about you. Please, don't exile him!"
