54. Forgiveness

54. Forgiveness

Lurk stared at the woman, he could feel everyone staring at him with mixed emotions. His eyes turned serious and he gritted his teeth in anger. The women suddenly becoming afraid, the woman that had stabbed the goblin was crying and trying to flail the goblins having let go of her and moving away while they looked at Lurk, their eyes also seemed to have an intense look as if waiting for something. The women were now holding the woman, Lurk made a motion for his dagger when Emily suddenly stepped in front of him holding her arms out.

"Stop! You can't punish her! She is completely out of it!" Emily said with a stern look matching Lurks eyes. The goblins began to sneer, Aurk and Vorm began to circle around the women, Resti and Sylphie looked on with shocked looks at what was transgressing in front of them, Sala also seemed to begin to move forward towards the women.

"It is not her fault!" Emily began to look around her slightly panicked the goblins seemed to be rilling up over the atmosphere in the air, some of them even drew their weapons. The women began to cry. Lurk was holding his hand on his dagger staring at Emily. When he drew it, Emily's hand moved to her own weapon, but her collar began to cause pain to her, some of the women who still had collars on who also seemed to panic could feel their collars begin to sting them slightly. Resti moved forward to get in between Emily and Lurk also, but then Lurk suddenly turned around and knelt down at the goblin who had died, he cut open his clothes and remove his shirt and furs quickly, he began to yell as he took off the goblins shirt.

"We have done everything for you to make sure you return! The goblin here had no way to be involved in the village attack! He was back home in the cave when it happened!" Lurk held his hand on the wound and began trying to heal it, The goblin had lost a lot of blood and the heart was pierced right through which caused him to go down almost instantly. Lurk cast his spells with yells.

"[Lesser Regeneration]!"

"[Heal]"

"[Heal]"

The goblins wound was closing, but Lurk needed to see if the heart was healing first, so he cut the wound open and expanded it to keep looking at the heart as he tried to focus his healing at one location. But this was not how the healing spells worked, it was also one of the reasons why his arm was so slow to regenerate, it was not focusing all the energy of the spell into the singular wounds.

"Goddammit!" Lurk said cutting the goblin looking at the heart as he could see it slowly knitting together. Blood leaking out of the wound, Lurk began to worry about what would happen even if the heart healed up in working order - it was not beating? Would a heart even begin to beat if it was magically repaired?

"We do not want to hurt you! We have made this clear! Again! And AGAIN!" Lurk stared at the heart his voice increasing in volume, the goblins had begun backing away even they could feel the rage that was brewing, but they were also confused about what they should be doing, their eyes had cleared up once more, Resti had her hands up to her mouth as she was looking on, Emily staring her hands slowly lowering down as she saw Lurk feverishly trying to heal the goblin.

"WE CANNOT CHANGE IF WE HAVE TO FIGHT THIS CURSE!" Lurk gritted his teeth breathing hard, his instincts and the [Evil] Trait was screaming in his ear to not show weakness in front of his tribe, to kill the woman for hurting one of his goblins and to make sure the other women would know it. All he could do was focus on trying to heal the goblin as now the [Evil] Trait was in high gear forcing his mind towards revenge.

He pumped the healing spell more into the goblin but it was to slow, He began to try and manipulate the healing spell, but the thoughts coming up in his head from the evil trait was distracting him, his breathing going more ragged his body beginning to shake. He tried to change the spell to focus on one location and not spread out, even to limit it to a tiny area even would be enough for him. His mana burning up fast since this method always caused ludicrous amounts of mana.

"NOW IF HE DIES DO I HAVE TO KILL HER? HOW LONG WILL THIS KEEP GOING!" Lurk shook his head back and forth violently grabbing his forehead with as he suddenly stopped healing and trying to make the spell. When he suddenly felt two arms going around him and someone kneeling behind him.

"We trust you... Save him" Resti had hugged around Lurk, he had stopped shaking but his breath was still ragged and spittle formed on his mouth, his eyes flaring but it began to cool down slightly. He tightened his hand in front of him and put it down onto the back of the goblin. All the women and goblins stared in silence, even the woman that had stabbed the goblin had snapped out of it and was looking on. Emily looked dejected into the ground fearing how this would turn out. The collars had all stopped giving shocks to the women.

Lurk closed his eyes as he calmed down, his mana began to plummet once more as he began to change the spell he focused the healing into his hand till it became a tiny glowing point instead of a glow that covered his hands. He could feel the healing begin to focus on a tiny area, healing a lot faster than before. He opened his eyes and began to heal the heart only. The wound around the heart also slowly closing up but had his fingers into the wound.

He felt the spell stop working as he slowly withdrew his hand, the spell began to heal the outside wound instead. As it closed up Lurk stared at the goblin and his hand that was covered in the dark-reddish blood. He flipped the goblin around on his back and put his head down on his chest. Resti had her hands on his back as he moved out of her hug. Women were crying in the background now, the goblins were looking back and forth between each other the mood was entirely different.

Lurk got up and began to push down on the goblins chest. And give the goblin air with mouth to mouth. Everyone looking on confused.

"Come on dammit!" Lurk yelled again as he was compressing on the goblins chest. But after a short while, he stopped. Instantly the mood once more turned back to how it was initially, Lurk gritting his teeth once more as he sat up, Resti tried to hug him again but he resisted it.

"HOW CAN WE CHANGE IF YOU WILL NOT CHANGE TOO!" Lurk stood up violently and fast yelling it at the woman, Resti being knocked back, Lurk had the dagger in his hand as he stared at the woman who met his eyes and froze from fear.

Lurk was about to take a step forward when Aurk put a hand on Lurks shoulder to hold him back.

"Chief..." He looked at Lurk trying to find the words, but he did not know how to express it. Lurk stared down at the woman, dagger in hand, tightening his grip. The [Evil] Trait had removed all his regular ideas and hopes he had for how to try and become goblins that were not monsters since humans would always see them as such, and they would have to answer for all the horrible deeds all goblins had ever done to humanity.

"Cough!..." A raspy gasp was heard from behind, Lurk spun around and everyone's eyes looked down at the goblin that was breathing weakly, his eyes looking around confused and his body was weak when he tried to get up he could not. Lurk instantly collapsed onto a knee.

"... hah... We have... To change... But so do you..." Lurk said in a shaky voice as he could now fight back the [Evil] Trait better with the death of the goblin removed. He was still angry that it had happened but he now knew had the power to change things, He could fix the pain and suffering that goblins and humans would cause. He needed to find a way or his heart would turn into evil and darkness and he did not wish to become a monster.

Lurk looked at the goblin... As he turned to face the woman as he stood up.

"He was not the goblin that killed your family... Apologize to him... And never ever do this again to my people... Any of you..." Lurk said calmly but with a stern look, as he turned his eyes to face the other women.

"We cannot help you... If we do not trust you... We cannot forgive each other if we keep killing each other." Lurk said quietly as he looked into the eyes of the woman. The woman looked at him as she cried once more thinking of her family. She slowly went down with her head to the ground as she cried harder.

"... I am... Sorry...." Her tears were flowing as she managed to say it through her sobs. Everyone looking at the woman as something that had never happened in the realm before happened, a woman apologizing to a goblin.

Lurk sat with the goblin that had been stabbed, his name was Grom. He was still incredibly weak from blood loss, something the healing spell apparently did not do well with. Which confused Lurk, but examining the spell he saw that it would stimulate the body to produce blood faster but it still had a limit that it could basically create the required things in the body for it to produce it. Basically creating something out of nothing. Lurk pondered how to create a spell that would focus on that... Could he make a spell that would produce blood faster?

"Did you bring me back from the dead chief?" Grom asked Lurk with utter reverence, even the other goblins and the women were looking at him differently. The girls were also sitting nearby, ears perking up at the question, as they had made an early camp after walking a bit further when Aurk decided they needed it.

"It's hard to explain... You were still alive but... Your heart was just damaged so it did not work... If I did not heal you right away I could not have done it as the healing would not work." Lurk wondered if the regeneration spell he had cast fixed some damage he had not noticed since the spell was localized. He was not even sure if the CPR he did was necessary, he merely did it in a panic hoping it would work doing his best to stave off the [Evil] trait with any other action that spinning around and slitting the throat of the woman. Maybe some nerves had not healed yet so the body could not instruct the heart to beat. Whatever happened he was just happy it went the way it did... But he was still upset over the woman's reaction.

("... She would have been declared insane in the moment of the murder if it was back home... She was not herself... ") Lurk tried to justify it, but it was incredibly hard to just accept it with the fresh emotions still boiling in the back of his head from what the [Evil] trait was about to make him do. Or if it even was the [Evil] Trait at all... Sure it was a part of it... But he could tell he would have done something himself if Grom had died... What he could not be sure of.

"I hope you can forgive her for her actions Grom..." Lurk said quietly looking out over the plains.

"I can Chief! It is your goal! I will do my best!" Grom said eagerly, Aurk perked his own ears hearing the word forgive. As he realized that was what he wanted to say that Lurk should do... He had felt Lurks intense struggle like all the goblins could, the [Evil] Trait was basically linking their moods and would ramp up their emotions, Aurk could tell Lurk was struggling and knew how Lurk had been trying hard ever since they had been hiding in the workshop to instill the ideas of changing themselves away from the path. But Lurk was about to forget it and fail the mission he had laid out for the tribe.

Lurk looked shocked at Grom, looking at the eager face of the goblin that was utterly awed by Lurks ability made Lurk smile once more.

"Maybe I can too then..."
