Cameron leapt to the side. He landed a few metres away. He turned to watch the monster's paw slam into the ground. The impact smashed a crater into the rocks. Shattered stones splashed across the cave.
Cameron sprinted away from the monster. Where was he going? The monster galloped after him.
He headed for a wall. Shooting his left hand through the handle of his shield, he let it dangle off his wrist and free his hand. He leapt at the wall.
Climbing up it, he leapt between natural hand holds and foot holds. He'd occasionally stab his spear into the rocks as if it was butter and use the shaft as a handhold to aid him in his climb. That spear wasn't normal at all to be able to stab through rock so easily. Just how hard was that monster's scales? The monster roared up at Cameron.
It slammed its paws against the wall in frustration. It took a few paces away. The expana bear then ran towards it as if to leap up at Cameron. But as soon as it stood on its hind legs, revealing the defenceless and smooth skin of its stomach, Zack lunged towards the monster and raised his spear above his shoulder.
He chanted a few incantations, smothering his body with a crimson glow. Countess Gladine chanted incantations, covering his body with a golden glow that mixed with the red.
The monster's eyes swivelled to him. Stopping its leap, it froze. It pushed off the wall. The expana bear slammed its front legs back down onto the floor, pointing its weak point away from the enemy. Zack froze, pulled his spear back down, and stepped back to where he was standing before.
Was that their plan? That couldn't have been it, could it? Countess Gladine frowned at the sight, and the slaves grimaced, probably thinking along the same lines as Ryan.
But Zack kept smirking as he always did. Cameron's expression didn't shift at all. It certainly didn't appear as if their grand plans failed. So Ryan at the very least hoped that wasn't the end of it. Pretty disappointing if it was. There had to be something more to wait for.
Cameron kept climbing up the wall until he was far above the monster. He stepped on a natural foot hold and grabbed a natural hand hold with his left hand. He glared down at the monster. With his right hand, he raised his spear over his shoulder. The expana bear narrowed its eyes. Cameron's arm blurred. He swung his arm down towards the monster, as if he was about to throw his spear at the beast.
The expana bear slammed its eyes shut, expecting a spear thrown in the eye. But Cameron's spear remained in his hand. He stabbed it into the wall, pulled his left hand away from the wall, and hung from the spear. He let his shield slide down his left arm till he grabbed the handle. Whilst the monster's eyes were shut, Cameron dropped his shield.
It fell towards the expana bear. It thudded against the floor adjacent to the monster. It rolled and rattled just below the monster's defenceless stomach. The exampa bear pulled its eyes open. They instantly swivelled down to where Cameron dropped the shield. Did it expect the sound made by the shield to be Cameron dropping next to the monster? Its not like it had its eyes open to tell. But it was wrong.

And it knew it was when it saw the shield. It bristled as it looked down at the shield in confusion. Its eyes bulged when it looked back up and saw Cameron zoom down at its head.
Cameron landed on its nose. He thrust his spear at its head.
It stabbed into the monster's left eye. It shook in agony, paws pattering against the ground. Its maw shivered and opened. A pain-filled roar spilled out of it. Zack shifted.
But it snapped its mouth closed, cutting the roar short. Zack froze once again. It seemed to be fighting an urge to scream in agony, knowing that the inside of its maw was a weak point.
Cameron shoved the spear deeper into the eye. The monster winced. Its lips trembled. They spread apart, letting out a ground rumbling roar. Zack raised his spear over his shoulder once again.
The monster's right eye shifted to him. It shut the eye, and dragged its mouth to a close, predicting a throw from him. But the spear stayed in his grasp. The expana bear pressed its right paw to the ground for stability and swung its left paw up to its head. Razor sharp claws cast thin shadows across Cameron.
Zack began running at the monster. His eyes focused on the expana bear's chest. The tapping of his feet against the rocky ground echoed through the cave. The sound made the monster lurch. It opened its right eye, pulled its right paw away from Cameron, and slashed its right paw in Zack's direction.
He jumped backwards, dodging the claws. Whilst mid-air, he raised his spear over his shoulder. His arm blurred. He threw his spear at the monster. It shot towards its head. The monster's right eye swivelled towards the spear, still open from trying to slash its claws at Zack. It was finally able to snap its mouth closed. Shit.
But Zack's smirk didn't flinch an inch. He didn't seem to be aiming for the mouth.
The spear slammed into the monster's right eye. It roared even louder, spreading its mouth wider than ever before. Pain from one stabbed eye, it could bare. But two? What could? Its maw shuddered to a close. But not fast enough.
Cameron yanked his spear out of the monster's left eye. He leapt from its nose. He landed on the tip of its bottom lip.
He slammed his spear into the inside of its lip. He pulled the other side of the spear so its tip poked into the inside of the monster's top lip. The monster's mouth didn't even stagger to a close now. Closing it was impossible. The spear didn't even bend from the crushing strength of the monster's jaw muscles.
Cameron grabbed the spear left behind in the monster's mouth from one of the dead soldiers. He turned to Zack, nodded at him, and chucked the spear towards him.
Zack nodded back at Cameron. He snatched the spear out of the air. He raised the spear up high. Whilst Cameron jumped off the monster's mouth, Zack threw his spear at the monster. It blurred as it zoomed towards the exampa bear's head. It shot towards the exampa bear's mouth.
The monster was finally able to put enough pressure on the spear to bend it. But it was too late. Zack's spear shot between its teeth, inside its mouth, and blurred into the shadows of its throat.
Blood splashed in its maw. The monster screeched. It stumbled with wobbling and flailing legs. It tripped. The ground rumbled as it collapsed onto its side. It's screeching quietened. Blood gurgled out of its slack mouth and pooled onto the floor. It's breathing slowed. All movement in its body ceased.
It was dead.
