In a land where magic flows through all living things, former legendary wizard-hero Alaric wanders the streets and notices magic failing more often, including simple spells going awry. Traumatized by past magical tragedy in her village, the ambitious Selene now seeks to eradicate volatile magic she deems chaotic by restricting it through soulless machines and harsh policies, though her extremes twist noble intentions over time. Alaric’s former apprentice, Mara, tries convincing him to stand against this threat despite his reluctance and reduced gifts after a past magical catastrophe. Her innate magic aligns with nature, resisting Nullcrest's draining effects. Seeking old magical knowledge, Alaric and Mara discover ancient rituals to heal damaged ley lines and restore fading talents.
