Synopsis

The U.N. had set up MarsCorp to colonise Mars, and... while possibly even more secretive than any other mega corporation, it seemed to be actually working, even, according to some rare accounts. But Mars wasn't in the news much. Kids might have a phase of wanting to go there, but grew out of it as their parents breathed sighs if relief. Who'd seriously want to live where a broken window would kill you,  not to mention all the convicts exiled there? But Alice Findhorn, investigative reporter, had heard some rumours --- dark rumours about sabotaged life support equipment that merited investigating. Simon Bunting BSc PhD has given up on some of his dreams and settled down to the hard slog of academic research. He was just tying up some loose ends, really. Nothing to do with forcefields, single ended forcefields didn't exist. But something was certainly going wrong now. Last month's reliable results weren't showing up any more. What was up with the equipment? As he gazed out of the window to help his thinking,  he had hoped for inspiration, not to get an appointment that would his life upside down. As for Alice, she took it rather well, all things considered. Journey with Alice and Simon as they discover the lies in some of the things they thought they knew, (like Mars' population is not actually made up of deported criminals), and discover what  truth is behind the rumours. Chronologically, this series starts a few years before Gift and Power Series 1, and continues past the end of Series 2. Expect: It's based on a future Earth,  with some (I assume) entirely fictional elements thrown into the universe.Practical migration to and terraforming of Mars (later series of the meta-series get to other star-systems too, a generation and a bit after the mistake in the disproof of antigravity has been found.)Conversation-driven story. No RPG elements.Daily chapters (or at least the aim is 7 per week as this is a mostly completed story on my computer). Fictional fun (I assume!):*  Some people can hear others' thoughts.*  Fewer people can read minds.*  Simon can do something even the mind-readers think is strange.Oh, it sometimes seems that we hardly meet a main character who's not about to fall in love.
