School Days

School Days

It’s the next day and I haven’t slept in hours. It’s all because of that stupid elixir I had so much energy. I spent the remainder of the night playing video games. By the time the sun came up, I was so tired that I wished that I was dead. Maybe that was going too far, but the point is that I don’t want to do anything but sleep.

My breakfast wasn’t anything too special, just some cereal and milk, a protein shake, and a banana. I’m not a big fan of sugary cereal as I find them too sweet for my taste buds. Besides, I feel most people should eat more fruits and veggies whenever they get the chance. A little tangent: why the hell are healthy foods more expensive than junk food?

If the government actually wants people to eat healthier, then maybe they should do something to bring about those high prices. But I have a better chance of winning the lottery before our government actually helps people.

After breakfast, I took a quick shower and put on my clothes. My school is a religious school that worships the matron goddess Byahu, so I am forced to wear white uniforms. What a pain in my ass, at least we can wear whatever we want on the first Friday of the month.

“Oh boy! I haven’t been to a school before. When Noel and I were alive, we were homeschooled by the greatest professors money can buy!” Harper said, gleefully.

“Why are you so excited to attend school? School is the most boring place on Galatea.”

Wait a minute? What the hell am I saying?

“You two are not coming to school with me. If people find out that I am being haunted by two ghosts, then I can kiss my social life goodbye.”

“From what I have observed over the weekend, you don’t really have much of a social life. Besides that one woman who delivered your food, nobody has called over the phone or come over to your apartment.” Noel said bluntly.

“Well…you see. I can explain…”

Dammit! Why am I even arguing with a dead lady about this?

“Look, I go to a Byahu school. If any of the nuns see me possessed by hosts, they would try to exercise you two. You will never get your revenge on Marcelene, so just stay invisible or whatever you two do when I can’t see you.”

Harper sighed.

“Fine, you win Ken. And here I was hoping to attend school today.”

“You really are not missing much. Besides, you will still be there or whatever, you just can’t be seen by anyone, especially the nuns.”

With that problem averted, I leave my apartment and head straight to school. I walk to school because it’s only eight blocks away from where I live. Since it’s so close, I really have no need to try and rush my mornings.

West Star High School was founded over two hundred years ago so that young people can have a safe learning place for the right price. Levy pays for my intuition, so I feel obligated to never skip a day and always do my work and turn it in on time. But right now I came so close to ruining my perfect attendance.

I arrived at my first-period class (Ancient Literature) fifteen minutes before the bell rings. The room is completely empty and I could try to catch a quick nap. But when I put my head down, Harper spoke.

“Wow, so this is what a classroom looks like! Isn't it lovely Noel?”

“It’s adequate, I suppose.”

“You girls really were sheltered all your lives.”

“You can say that. Our dad hated commoners, he believed them to be lazy leeches.”

“Ironic.”

“What do you mean by that?” Harper said glaring at me.

“Nothing. I was just thinking out loud.” I got up from my desk, abandoning any hope of taking a nap right now.

I bought myself an energy drink at the vending machine and chugged it before arriving at class. But it had the opposite effect I was hoping for.

I sit in the back of the class, so hopefully, I can sleep for a little while before the teacher catches me.

Five minutes before the first period and more students were pouring into the classroom by the dozens. The class came to life as students talked about their weekends among themselves. None of what they did can compare to what I went through.

My friend Scott came into class, the very same man who dared me to spend fifteen minutes at the graveyard. It’s because of him that I was roped in some family drama that spans one hundred years.

“Yo, Kenny. I see you are still alive.” I said as he walked over to my desk.

“Disappointing, isn’t it?”

“So what happened, don’t skip out on any of the details?”

“OK, I won't. Get ready because some serious shit went down.” I pause for effect.

After a few seconds of not saying anything, Scott has gotten annoyed.

“Well?”

“Don’t you get it, Scott? Nothing happened. I just spent fifteen minutes at a graveyard and then went home. On Saturday, I spent my fifty on some used games and then went to work. Sunday, I spent the day playing Tinemon.”

“Dude,” he said, rolling his eyes.

“I thought you would see some ghosts or something.”

“The only thing remotely scary I saw was a pack of dogs. Sorry to burst your bubble.”

“Eh, whatever,” Scott shrugs his shoulders.

“I got something better, I met a girl over the weekend and she goes to this school. I want you to meet her during lunch.”

“I’ll pass.”

“You don’t have much of a choice, dude. You better be on your best behavior too.” Scott went back to his desk when the teacher arrived.

Man, the last thing I want to do is meet some new love interest for Scott. He has a habit of falling in love with any girl who even talks to him. I bet he would think a girl working at Burger World would like him if found an extra chicken nugget in a ten-piece meal.

“Who is that?” Noel asked telepathically.

“Some guy that I know, named Scott,” I responded in my head so nobody will think that I lost my marbles.

“He’s not your friend?” Harper asked.

“You could argue that, but honestly he is just a guy that doesn’t annoy me the least.”

“Wow, it’s no wonder you had nobody come over to your house over the weekend..” Harper mocked.

“Yeah, yeah.” I yawned.

Geez, just how long is this class going to take? I am struggling to listen to the teacher, and I wish for the bell to ring. It’s going to be a long day.

The bell rang, dismissing the students, and now it was time to go to the cafeteria for lunch.

I make my way to the cafeteria but I am not exactly in a rush. Don’t get me wrong, being a private school the food here is pretty decent but expensive. The one thing that I like is the chicken sandwiches, they are really popular with the student body and they sell out quickly.

I get in line, hoping that there are some sandwiches left.
