The rolling waves rocked me as I laid in the bed of my cabin on the ship.
Other than the ship's crew, there were approximately thirty people on the ship. But to myself and those passengers, this was no pleasure cruise. All of our minds were focused on one sole thing. The destination.
I contemplated trying to get another couple hours or so of sleep before the ship was scheduled to arrive, but the morning light piercing through my window told me that it would likely be an effort in futility.
I rose up from my bed and glanced at the mirror in my room, the hazel eyes of my reflection staring into my own. Fixing up my messy brown hair with my hands, I got rid of my bedhead look. Once I was done, I exited my cabin and began walking towards the main deck. It was still early so many were probably asleep, causing the ship’s halls to be silent as I walked.
Perhaps I should have tried the same. But there was something urging me outside. Something I wanted to- no, something I needed to see.

Once I walked onto the main deck, my eyes gazed out at the rising sun that illuminated the ocean waves with an orange hue. But there was something else that garnered my attention even more than the light of dawn.
It was still a ways away, but I could make out an island in the distance. That was the ship’s destination. But to many including myself, the island was little more than a waypoint. The real goal was floating thousands of feet overhead. A massive structure that had manifested out of seemingly nowhere nearly twenty years ago. The cause behind the past ten of my sixteen years of life so far.
Stretching out roughly three thousand square meters, the largest size of any city on the planet, it floated in the sky near the island. It was impossible to make out much else however, as a transparent blue veil covered the floating structure, making the interior seem hazy to all who tried to gaze upon it. Only a small percentage of people were allowed in, but nearly everyone in the world knew what it was.
The city of Genesis.
