Instant transmission

The sun rises but his will to live does not... slowly opening his eyes the white and boring ceiling welcomes him.

He sits up and looks around, the mess that he calls his room haven't changed and still requires plenty of care as it always did.

Instead of doing any of that, he goes straight into the bathroom and looks in the mirror. What he sees is a reflection of himself.

The skin is pale as snow which is the result of barely going outside. The face is partially covered by the Dark long messy hair. greenish eyes with a stare of emptiness

Emptiness is what most of his days are.

Fitting in wasn't his specialty, almost every human interaction felt extremely uncomfortable. It could easily be the results of how little human relationships he really has.

Since the portals opened a few years ago his parents got plenty of work to do and they are barely at home and making friends isn't too easy. Something just wasn't clicking, it didn't feel right.

Walking past trough the rooms trying to get ready for the day he spots a box on the table in the kitchen. with a small paper attached to it Food! for my beloved son William

"How is it that you are gone again?" William says to himself wondering when were they home. at midnight?

Some may think talking to yourself is weird but for him it has become natural. Instead of having an internal monologue its rather external in his case, but only when he's alone.

Even for him it would be weird to talk to himself among other people.

A few minutes later he's walking down the street. The hood gets blown off his head.

The wind blows like always. looking up the gigantic crystal hovering above the city is spinning like always. it supplies the city with energy. Any other use of the Essence has been considered too inefficient but the research is still ongoing.

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

The Crystal reminds him of his mother. She's a scientist and is responsible for an important project related to these crystals. So close to a break trough again just like 3 years ago when the first portals were opened.

Will keeps walking forward and looks downwards lost in thought, not paying attention to his surroundings

There aren't many people on streets.

A middle aged man increases his pace and starts running towards William. The footsteps are getting louder and even he notices it, so he starts turning his head upwards.

Slowly but surely a few greenish particles started gathering in front of him around a meter away, but that he didn't see.

Just a second later the swirling particles have formed a greenish Portal at least as big as him.

"Hey! Get away from that!" The man shouts ,but its too late the portal starts sucking inwards and William suddenly disappears.

in few hours the portal is surrounded by scientists and various devices to make measurements. The man who got sucked in is far gone and two man in suits are questioning the man who tried to save him.

A woman that stands out from the rest also watches the scene with a serene calmness despite the high probability of a tragedy happening.

She has a slightly dark skin, Golden brown hair in a ponytail like fashion and deep brown eyes.

She wears a brownish robe with golden stripes and short sleeves so it doesn't bother her while moving around. Her clothing totally stand out form the crowd, but people don't seem to care.

One of the scientists walk up to her "Maya steinherz, E tier riftwalker From the Radiant Blade guild right?"

She nods and the scientist pulls out some sort of paper that contains a bunch of statistics. "According to the contract with your guild this area is under your influence and since a civilian fell into the portal it is your duty to get him out." the scientist explains and then fixes the positioning of his glasses

"Sure, no problem. How dangerous is this rift again?"

"According to my calculations, it shouldn't be stronger than a E tier. We didn't measure a huge amount of energy coming trough so around the portal in a 100km radius there shouldn't be anything too dangerous. We are still not sure about the riftworld's actual size."

With that explained she hesitates no further and quickly dashes into the green gap on space itself.
