Gemma Go Home
The Management (2)

The Management (2)

Fiona and Kevin sat in a transport on their way back to their offices.

“I think Gemma has more potential than Skyler,” Fiona said, “I’m going to put her forth as my recommendation.”

Kevin scratched his head with a tentacle, “Wouldn’t she be exactly what we don’t want? She wants to go home so badly. Why would she interfere with Gosidonia’s interdimensional travel plans for us?”

Fiona clasped her hands, “That’s exactly why I think she’ll be a good fit. She’s got passion and she’s smart enough to realize that if travel becomes viable between dimensions...Wars won’t be small scale anymore. Entire planets and people could get wiped out. Peace wouldn’t be the default in that situation.”

“So, she’d do it for the greater good.”

“Exactly. And the Gosidonian’s will believe her about wanting to go home, because it’s the truth. She’ll be the perfect double agent.”

“Okay,” Kevin said, “I can see that working. But what about Nellie?”

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

“If the Babysitter class has any similarities to Guardian or Keeper, she’ll get Skills that will make taking care of the baby much easier.”

“Hmm,” Kevin looked out the window. There was sense in what Fiona said, and he did believe Gemma would do a good job. But the whole notion still didn’t sit right with him.

He realized that in the short time he’s spent with them, he did feel a certain protectiveness for the two girls.

“I don’t like it,” Kevin said, “I just want them to have a happy, quiet, peaceful life here.”

Fiona sighed, “As nice as that would be, the higher ups are asking for us to do our duty.”

“I know,” Kevin said, “But that doesn’t mean I have to like it.”

“And besides,” Fiona said, “When have Lost been known to lead quiet lives?”

“I managed it,” Kevin said.

“You’re an anomaly here.”

“I suppose that’s right.”

They arrived at Sector G, “I’m going to go write up that report,” Fiona said, “You don’t have to do anything you feel guilty about.”

The thank you Kevin offered felt wrong.

He headed back to his office in Sector F, wondering if he should’ve tried to persuade Fiona to leave Gemma alone. His tentacles shifted with his unease as he walked.
