Chapter 3

Gawain was put into chains to ensure he didn’t escape and was taken to a town in the middle of the seemingly endless forest. While walking towards a grand building in the center of this town, he was being glared at by the passers-by. As they arrived at the entrance the group was stopped and asked what reason they were trying to enter the great hall of the Elders. After explaining the situation with Gawain they were let into the great hall.

“I heard from the guards as to why you're here. How do you know our language?” These words came from the darkness covering the council of elders seating.

“As I told Anastasia I have very few memories from my past and knowing when and where I learned, all I know is that I can speak Decaruish.” Gawain retorted respectfully.

After a long and tiring session of the Elders arguing the Grand Elder spoke up, “As the Grand Elder, leader of the council of elders I will allow you to stay here in the Abyssal Forest so we can monitor you and ensure you have no alternate motives.”

Loud gasps could be heard throughout the council of elders but none objected as the Grand Elder’s decision triumphed over the whole council's opinion. “With this, I hereby conclude this session of the Council of Elders no further comments should be made about my decision for the human.”

Gawain surprised he wasn’t just executed, asked those who had been escorting him, “Now that I am to stay in the town where I am to stay?”

Anastasia grumbled in an aggravated tone, “The Council of Elders has graciously allowed you to stay in Sylvie’s house for the time being until we figure something more permanent. Though you won’t be staying there tonight as it is already late in the evening.”

Gawain was brought to a room connected to the city hall which is where he slept for the night. Early the next morning Gawain found Anastisa knocking on the front door to his temporary room. “Hey human hurry up we should get you to your new home before the sun rises.”

Gawain still groggy from just waking up, “Is there a reason we need to be there before the sun rises?”

“We need to get you some clothes as you reek of death, nasty human.”

With that, they set off for the market buying Gawain some common Decarus clothes. Anastasia jokingly said, “Look at you, you’re starting to really look like us.”

After shopping, they walked for a bit before arriving at a small house. Anastasia said her goodbyes and left Gawain alone. Gawain not wanting to stand around on the street any longer walked up to the door and gave 3 weak knocks. Following his knocks he heard the clatter of many pots and pans before a short Decarus girl peeked her face out from the halfway cracked open door. She had black puffy hair mostly covering her face and only showing a bit of her crimson-red eyes. Sylvie in a low mumble said, “Hello what do you need?”

Gawain understood her shyness and responded politely, “Hey I don’t know if you’ve heard, but I am the human that is to live with you until they figure out a more suitable location for me to stay.”

She blushed slightly before opening the door to a very messy house. She mumbled, “Sorry for the mess; I wasn’t expecting visitors.” She let out an innocent giggle at the thought.

Gawain wanting to be nice said, “If you saw what I was living in before coming here you would think I was dead.”

Sylvie giving an awkward laugh said, “Well come on in, I will prepare some tea for you.”

Walking into the living room Gawain noticed just how extreme the mess was in her house it was to the point he was stepping over piles of clothes just to make it to the seating area.

As Sylvie walked out of the kitchen she fell tripping over her piles of clothing falling straight onto her face and knocking her out.

After Sylvie got knocked out Gawain put her on the bed and began to clean the house so something like this wouldn’t happen again. After a few hours, Sylvie woke up and walked out of her bedroom to find her house clean from the filth piled up after a couple of months of not cleaning her house. Gawain noticing her, “Ah you’ve awakened, I took the chance to clean while you were sleeping as it was starting to bother me.”

“Oh uh, thanks.” She said feeling awkward.

“Hey, Sylvie where am I going to sleep because there isn’t a guest room? I can sleep on the floor if needed.”

Sylvie blushed profusely, “You can sleep in the bed with me if you want, although if you didn’t know I am a guy.”

Gawain’s interest was piqued and he asked, “Is the way you dress and act normal for your species?

“No, although no one cares about reproducing and all, those like me aren’t very popular as we are seen as weird for acting like something we are not.”

“Well, I think you are unique and would much rather be with you than anyone else.” Crying Sylvie runs up and hugs Gawain, letting out his fears and worries. With this, Gawain picked up Sylvie, brought him to his room, and put him down to rest as he lay next to him going to bed.
