Chapter 1: The Beginning of the Game

Chapter 1: The Beginning of the Game

Reincarnation system activated

I look at the words that flashes in front of me in a daze. 'Well, this is something new' I think absentmindedly. It's the first time they have actually given me a notice before reincarnating. It kind of feels good to not be shoved right away into a new body. *ting* Something rings and another window appears.

Welcome to Game World. Your world's been chosen to participate in the testing of the new living system, The Magic Survival Game System.

I stare at the blue window in confusion. 'Haven't I just died?' I ask myself while trying to understand what is happening. The window seems game-like, which doesn't give me a good feeling. 'Thank god I died, if not I would have been caught up in something annoying'. *ting* I hear the increasingly annoying sound again and with it, another window flashes in front of me.

You're dead. Reincarnation Protocol activated.

'Reincarnation?'. Shit, they are making me stay as a tester for the system anyway. 'They have to be kidding me! This really is a terrible day.' *ting* I sigh at the painful sound and gaze tiredly at the new notification.

Please choose your new race: demon - goblin - beast - human

"What?! No! I don't want to be part of the gods entertainment! I died. Let me go!" I scream to the dark nothingness of the Void. *ting* The sound flows throughout the darkness again and, as if ignoring my plead, another window pops up.

Please choose your new race: demon - goblin - beast - human

I sigh. 'This is useless. It seems I don't have a choice on this matter'. Resigned to my fate, I read the options they offer me. There's not much to choose from so the first thing I do is discard the goblin. They do have good potential but as I don't really know what I'm against, I need something more useful at the beginning. The same with the humans. They're the most flexible but they don't have any potential for evolution so it's going to be difficult later on. As for the other two, I've been both before: a demon and a beast. Quite the aggressive bunch, but that's exactly why they're my best bet for survival. But the options aren't very specific. What kind of beast are they talking about? There are so many sub races. I sigh again. I'm sighing too much lately. Maybe if I ask... This is going to be really humiliating if there's no answer.

"Mmmh what does beast partake?" I ask, feeling totally pathetic as I'm not really talking to anyone. *ting* Unbelievably, the window appeared again, answering my question. 'This is so fucking strange', I think shaking my head in disbelief.

Beasts have a great potential for evolution. You can choose the specie: wolf cub - feline cub - bear cub

I blink twice, trying to absorb what I'm reading. 'Cub?... Cub?! Isn't that a fucking child?! What can I do if I'm a cub?! I'll die right away!' I can't take this. I look at the screen again. Maybe I saw wrong... 'Nope. Cubs it is...' I sigh. I'm actually getting use to this. I sigh yet again. Well, let see what they offer me from the demon side.

"And demon? What are my options?" I'm not really expecting anything. After the beast choices, I can only imagine how low ranked the demon option is. I wait impatiently for the infernal sound. *ting* I look up to the new blue screen that appeared.

Demons are the race with the most potential and basic abilities. You can choose: imp

*ting* With barely letting me read my options, another window appears.

You have been given a special option: lesser demon. Please choose your race: goblin - beast - imp - human - lesser demon

"Lesser demon!" I practically scream my answer. This the best chance I've got. Lesser demons are humanoid and, while having the flexibility of humans, their basic abilities are worlds apart. Though they do have a very straightforward evolution path, they are the only ones that can reach the peak of the demon race. I can't believe how lucky I am. 'Maybe one of the gods involved is... No, it can't be. She wouldn't be part of something like this'. *ting*

Are you sure you want to reincarnate as a lesser demon?

"Yes" Immediately after, a light blinds me. I blink several times so my eyes can get used to the darkness again. *ting*.

Your new body is being created. Please wait.

I close my eyes and prepare myself to wait, like I'm used to, in this black nothingness that has became the only constant thing in my existence. So much, that is like coming home. After every life, no matter if I was a human, a demon, a beast or a monster, I always ended up here, in the Void. I even had someone who told me I was going to pay for my crimes after death. I think I never laughed so much. It was hilarious. They are so ignorant of what there is outside of their own worlds. They just create religions and beliefs around gods and expect them to take care of everyone. As if the gods took notice of all the people in every world. As if they actually cared for any kind of mortal. The only beings they care are the ones that can amuse them. Gods are pretty funny beings.

I have even been visited by a god once.  She was intrigued by how I fought and killed, my techniques. She said she saw them while I was alive and got amazed by their complexity. Actually it was something to be amazed at, I had several lives to perfect it. Even after that first time, she came once in a while to chat. It was a nice change, I had a lot of time to waste while I waited in the Void. Though she used to make a fuss about how I didn't have any tea and cookies to offer her. As if the Void would offer that. *ting*. I open my eyes, braking out of my rumination, to look at the new notice.

Your new body has been created. Welcome to Game World and good luck

Immediately after the message, a light covered the Void and I was slammed into my new body. I started, slowly, to feel my senses again. They were so keen, much more sensitive than the human ones. Such a big difference leaves me dizzy for a couple of minutes until I get used to it again. I look at myself. I have a tail and tiny horns in my head. The wings come in a later evolution. I explore my new body with excitement. It seems I have the physique of a twelve or thirteen year old. I can't see my face, obviously, but my hair is silver, a trait of this special sub race, and my eyes must be red o yellow. Although I'm a kid, my body is muscular but lean and flexible. It's a good body.

After checking out my new embodiment, I look around. It seems like I've been put into a dungeon. How nostalgic. I've been to many dungeons in my past lives. They were great places for training, however really high level. I look around again. It looks like a cave and there's no light. Good thing I'm a demon and have night vision.

Well, I have to get going if not I'm not getting out of here any time soon. First of all, I should do some reconnaissance of the place and train my level.  But before anything I have to check my status. If this is like a video game, all my abilities are numerical and that will make training easier.

"Status" I say out loud. Waiting for a sound or a screen to pop up.

Status Name Luca Hyte Gender Male Age ??? Race Lesser demon Level 1 Class None Titles Old Soul - Demon Lord - Beast of the East - Red Shadow   Health 630/630 Health Regen 0.096/sec Mana 600/600 Mana Regen 0.092/sec Strength 20(+20) Agility 20(+22) Dextery 20(+22) Vitality 20(+22) Endurance 20(+22) Intelligence 20(+20) Wisdom 20(+20) Luck 20   Elemental Resistances Fire 0% Water 0% Wind 0% Earth 0% Light 0% Darkness 25%   Titles Effects "Old Soul": 50% Int and Wis; x3 exp gain

"Demon King": +50% all stats

"Beast of the East": +50% Str, Agi, Vit, End and Dex

"Red Shadow": 10% Agi, Vit, End and Dex

I read trough my status. 'What is this? My age is unknown? Why?' I look further down, at the titles. Four titles. I'm not even past level 1 and I already have four titles! That's impossible. What is this? Demon King? Beast of the East? Red Shadow? They are my titles from my past lives, the most important ones. Why do I have them now? It's not like I have the strength to back them up. What if I meet a demon down here? They won't believe I'm a Demon King. I'm not even level ten, let alone 500, that's the minimum for a Demon King. Moreover they are too overpowered. They actually doubled my strength. It's like I'm level ten or more with this stats. It's a good thing but too much power attracts unwanted attention most of the time.

I mentally ask for the description of my titles. I really need to know what are they giving me, because I can't believe they only give a raise in stats. A *ting* is heard and four blue screens appear before me.

Red Shadow In one of your lives, you were known as an assassin capable of killing even gods. You bathed on the blood of your victims and your name was created after your vicious killings. Effects 10% Agi, Vit, End and Dex.

Skill: "Aura of a Killer".

I sigh. 'Skills? Really?' This is too much. I'm going to train and then I'll think about it again when I'm at least a two digit level.

I look around again. Maybe I can find a goblin or something to kill that has a weapon so I don't go around kicking and punching thing, not that I can't do it, but it's messy and my clothes will get filthy. I concentrate in my hearing and I hear a couple of humanoids coming this way. 'Ah~ some luck for a change' I think, happy at last.

I hide myself in the darkness and wait while the footsteps get closer. *ting*

You've learned the skill Stealth

I ignore the annoying notification and concentrate on the killing of mi source of exp. Five green little beings appear from the right corner of the cave. My prey. They are disgusting, but that's to be expected from goblins. They're not the most hygienic monsters. There seem to be a scout, three warriors and a mage. They are all low level, and I know this because there's a fucking window above all of them! 'Am I going to see that everywhere?' I sigh. At least it doesn't ring anymore. *ting* 'I talked too soon. It seems that my days with the infernal sound have only begin.' I think while I take a look at the screen that appeared.

You've learned the skill Observe

I ignore it again, seeing it's not that relevant. Though I notice how easy is to make skills. 'What is it with that? It should be more difficult.' Maybe it has something to do with my titles. 'Well I don't care.' I dismiss it and concentrate on the goblins, that had continued to walk while I was thinking.

'I should take the mage first, then the scout and leave the warriors for last, as they are the ones with less reaction.' I think while I look at them and the screen above their heads.

Goblin Mage Lvl 3

Goblin Scout Lvl 2

Goblin Lvl 1

Goblin Lvl 2

Goblin Lvl 2

They are weak, but I need to start from somewhere so this will do. I prepare myself and throw a kick to the goblin mage from behind. The little thing flies through the air and hits the wall, dead. Without a look, I spin and kick the scout, the first to respond, and hits the rock with the head, letting go of a dagger. I pick it up. It's not of good quality but will do for now. I throw it to one of the "warriors", that are reacting only now, and stabs him in between the eyes. And I finish the last two with a kick. Not really a fight, more like a slaughter. I look coldly at the corpses and take whatever is useful from them.

When I finish, I head to where the goblins came from and start to walk. 'First let's level up and then out of the dungeon. The old man and the kids must be waiting for me at home.' I think while I continue deeper into the cave.
