Having read the story up to this point (You have haven't you? If not, stop this NAC and go back and read it so you don't get any spoilers by jumping ahead to try and make a choice that isn't going to impact the story anyway..) you guys should all know what the price for paradise is.
Now, knowing what our characters do, what would you do?
People need a safe place to live, and this is paradise. Clean water, fertile fields, orchards, fish in the lake/river... It's a literal Eden where they'd have every necessity for survival. Even stone can be mined safely from the walls, and perhaps coal or ores if they can find them...
BUT...
Should you die there, your soul will be drawn into the crystal to feed it and slowly be consumed until your spirit is whisked out of existence.
And the people don't know this, but you do...
What would you do?

Tell them, possibly scaring them so they leave and die elsewhere, where at least their souls with go to whatever afterlife awaits them?
Keep it to yourself, knowing the price they'll pay if one dies in an accident, childbirth, or any other way?
The people need a safe place to live. This place seems safe for that. Can you take that safety away from them?
What would you do?

Share with me please. I'd love to see how various people would think/react to such a scenario if it ever happened to them. (Not that I imagine it could in our reality, it being what it is and all -- but that's the thing I love about fiction: We can explore the 'What Ifs' without having to constrain ourselves to the limits reality places upon us.)
