The Awaited Heir

The Awaited Heir

In

The Year 152 of The Lunar calendar. In the "Yezid Continent".

"Sir! The mistress has given birth!" Said a woman to a man dressed in a black warriors attire.

"HAHAHA... Finally!

The long awaited hier has been born. I will soon be able to retire to the country side and leave this heavy responsibility to a suitable hier of my bloodline" Announced the burly man with an excited expression unbecoming of his hairy and fierce looking face.

The man then had a serious expression and inquired "Is the child healthy? "

"Yes Sir Commander! The child is a perfectly healthy, 8 pounds baby boy"

The man's excited expression reappeared

"Excellent!"

"Take me to my wife and child, I can't wait to know what kind of talent my offspring will possess" Said the man with a commanding tone.

"Of course! Please follow me.! " The lady maid started escorting the man though the corridor of the estate quaters where his wife had given birth.

This man is none other than 'Alvar Elerian', the commander of the Western army of the 'Yasid Empire' of the Yezid Continent. A distinguished warrior hailed as "The Best in the World".

Alvar is also the leader of the Elerian Clan, a clan know for producing power house warriors, who are adept weilders of the Ether. Elerians are know for their etherial prowess and  regarded as strong warriors and magicians.

As the clan's leader, and a commander, Alvar is expected to have performance exceeding all others, which has caused him immense fatigue. Therefore, he desires a heir, that he can pass this heavy burden to when he grows old and frail. He intends to spend the rest of his old age days in the country side, with his beloved wife, awaiting his demise.

In the bedroom quaters. "Oh My! Look at how beautiful your son is My Lady... Have you picked a name for him?" Exclaimed one of the maid servents.

"We will come up with a suitable name together" Said the lady in bed, gently holding the child to her face.

"You mean Sir Alvar and you? How are you so sure he is going to return?" Questioned the maidservant.

"Isn't he battling at the Western borders? Will he have the time to travel all the way here to the capital? "

"GUESS WHO'S HERE! "

The ladies were startled upon hearing this bold voice.

The woman holding the child widened her eyes to look at the entrace of the room. She appeared surprised and slightly emotional.

"Dear, it's actually you.. " Said the woman with slight disbelief.

"You though I wounld'nt come?" Alvar looked at her questioningly.

"No, I believed you would, I knew you wouldn't miss the birthday of the child you have been longing to have. "

She said to him with a slight smile tucked at her lips.

"Anyways, now that you are here, have you tought of a name yet, for our boy?"

"Wait, I never thought about that. It didn't even cross my mind? How could I! Let me come up with a name right now." The man stated while sheepishly caressing his long, bushy beard.

The woman just chuckled at her husbands folly. "Well I have a suggestion"

"Yes!? I am willing to hear. " Alvar said with a bright expression. Cleary relieved to have gotten rid of this burden.

He never was good with names, he had even named his horse 'Booger', because it reminded him of it.

The lady understood her husbands relief and seemed even more willing to pick a suitable name.

"How  does "Alf" sound?" asked the lady questioningly.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

" ALF....' Alf Elerian'. Hmm.. I like it, I think it's a suitable name for a future warrior of the Elerian Clan"

The lady flased a bright smile like the Sun. "Alf, my child do you like your name? The child as If understanding her words, flashed a smile.

"May your life be full of happiness and joy as you are experiencing now"Said the lady when she saw her childs innocent smiling face. Not yet wrinkled by the worries of life.

Alvars expression darkened, as he thought what this child will have to go through as the member of the Elerians. Though, as a father, he wanted nothing more than to pamper him and fulfill all of his sons whims. But he was aware, as the head of a clan of warriors, what kind of mentor ship this child needs to become a suitable successor of the Clan Head position.

"Dear Catherine, please hand me the child" Alvar demanded, looking at his wife with a serious expression.

Upon his request, she relizes her husbands intent and was hesitent to hand over her child who she adores more than anything.

She reluctantly handed over Alf to her husband.

"Sure, here, go to dada"

Cathrine, despite her hesitation, obeyed her husband when she looked at his face. A cold expression, in compete contrast to his previous excitement.

Cathrine Sanders, as a lady from a modest family married Alvar Elerian though an arrangement. Her Family had been subservient to the Elerians for generations, and were more than glad to marry their daughter to the Clan leader, when their had been a proposal from the Elerians.

Catherine, though Innocent and pampered, was not ignorant about the customs of the Elerians. She was aware that her son was being taken to the 'Talent Awakeing' ceremony, which every Elerian child goes through the day they are born. This ceremony is supposed to awaken the latent talent of weilding 'Ether'  in children, that is the determinent factor for their future growth. Children with high talents were nurtured, to be the conerstones of the family as warriors or mages in the future. While those with low talent were almost always disregarded andwere thrown out of the competition of gaining a rank in the clan, or even in the Western Army's as they mostly were incapable of weilding enough Ether to excel in either the warrior or mage professions.

This ceremony would determine Alf's future potential in weilding Ether, so that he could qualify as a heir and would receive special treatments and privileges.

While walking to the ceremonial place with Alf in his embrace, Alvar recieves various slautes after each step, from the Clans Men and guards alike.

"Clan Head!"

"Sir Commander! "

Alvar respondes to each salute with a slight nod and continues walking with an authoritative posture.

In the Cortyard of the Elerian Eastate. "Clan Head, please this way" Says an old man in ragged clothing with utmost respect.

"Please place the young one on the box"

In the middle of the courtyard, there was a certain cube shaped box, made  out of some kind of lustrous metal with rune symbols engraved all over it.

"So this is the Lustros box, that measures talent! I barely remember it, coming hare as an  infant. " thought Alvar, and placed  Alf, who was wrapped in a blanket on the box.

"I really hope the your talent in weilding Ether is high, otherwise your journey forward is going to be really difficult, my son" thought Alvar, while looking at the cute face of the child on the box. His heart anxious.

The box starts glowing and a really bright yellow light come out of the runes.

"NO! IT CAN'T BE" Excalims the old man with ragged clothes.

The bright light suddenly vanishes completely and the runes stop glowing

"SO! What is it? How is my sons talent"

The old man coughs  in embarrassment" It seems I was mistaken. I am sorry to tell you. You son is completely ordinary" the old man says in a monotonous tone.

"What do you mean ordinary? Do  you mean to say his talent is low? " inquires Alvar with anger evident in his tone.

"I did not mean to confuse you, I apologize" The old man says respectfully while bowing his head.

"My Lord! How is this possible? " old man thinks inwardly.

"Actually, your son doesn't possess any talent in weilding Ether at all. " He states bluntly, not noticing the frightening expression on Alvars face.

"HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? ARE YOU SURE YOU DID NOT SEE WRONG?Take the measurement again! " Alvar starts shouting with evident rage and disbelief.

"I should probably explain the  mechanism of the Box. You see the box glows with a whitle light for low talent and with a yellow light if the talent is high. But for your son, the box did not show any light at all. Which means you son doesn't possess any talent all, thus the box didn't show anything."

Alvar looked confused and devasted when he heard the old man's explanation. But his face lit up when he remembered the bright yellow glow from the box earlier. "What about that bright yellow light earlier?" Inquires Alvar in confusion.

"Oh! That was because of the Ether fluctuating, it just flased for a second and disappered."

Alvar clenches his fist, and punches a hole through a nearby wall. To vent his frustations.

He starts shouting and breaking every wall, pillar and pot in the courtyard like a madman.

The old man shudders in fear upon witnessing this frightening display of strength. Fear of death evident on his face.

"Is he going to kill me now!?" the old man wonders, his face getting paler by the second.

"My son, is utterly useless?"  says Alvar, his voice barely a whisper.

a world where Ether determines one’s fate, Alf was deemed talentless—an outcast in his own clan. Yet, beneath his supposed weakness lies a secret even he doesn’t understand. His journey begins in struggle, but fate has far greater plans for him.
