Prologue part 3

Some people might have been happy about being chosen to decide what you want to do with your life. Me? I got suspicious about what he said about being chosen at random, almost as if they did this because they were bored but I learned in the refugee camps that if you get something free you should take it while you can and not question why you got it. That is at least what my uncle always said everyday of my life and it’s hard to think of a reason not to accept.

I’m just going to pretend I never heard him say that.

“Congratulations for winning sir, so what do you want to do in your next life?”

“What are my options?"

"You can choose race, skills, traits, affinities and more. Only the world you are going to is different from your world. It's a world filled with sword, magic and many different races. Here is a list over all the skills I can give you."

I look over the options I was given and started to think. Almost my entire life I have trained in order to help and heal people and it sort of saddens me not to be able to use the things I’ve been thought. I've decided I am going to choose. I picked any skill that could help me to work as support, skills for healing, cooking, buffing, foraging, tailoring and more. When I looked at what I picked I started to frown a little, if I only choose skills like these then I'll have no combat ability. I start to look over skills that will make me good at magic, because why not since I'm already going to a world with magic might as well learn about It. I choose to have affinity to all elements, the basic spell to every element and a few other things that have a fancy name that might help. I can’t help not thinking I’m doing something wrong but I wasn’t all that into the fantasy genre while I was still alive. Well now to pick a race.

Why is there only one race to pick and of all the possible races a fantasy world can give me it has to be a slime, I might not now a lot about fantasy but I know that they are considered the weakest. I have to ask Argus about why I can only pick one.

“Argus why can I only pick one race and why is it the slime race?”

“The options you have been given are things that you can you choose. The only option that you can’t choose are race, which is influenced by who you are. Usually you get two or more options but the less options you got the more chance there is for you to get an exclusive race. This is to make things more interesting for both you and us.”

I have already accepted that this some kind of entertainment for them and chose to ask.

This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

“But why a slime, can you explain that to me?”

“Ok, in this world slimes are known for being adaptable to any unknown environment more then any other race and since this is a very interesting race that have had very little change in what they since they were created, we kind of want you to make things interesting. Therefore, you could say it is based partly on who you are and our boredom. Would that be enough for an answer?”

After his explanation I start to get little tired of him saying all this is happening because they are, thou I have no idea who they are. Come to think about it why don’t I feel hungry or something, I was about to ask Argus why, until I remembered. Oh that’s right, I’m dead it just that this situation is so different from what I thought this afterlife was going to be. I decide to just choose the slime race and get this all over with.

“I’m done now. What’s next?”

After I ask this question, Argus suddenly smiled a little and presses a small button on his desk, that I for some reason popped out of nowhere on the previously empty desk. A door pops up looking like some of those old wooden doors we had before the war started and the door is of course colored white like everything else. I blink for a second to be sure that I’m seeing right but for some reason I find myself in front of the door now with Argus holding it open for me.

“Before you go I should tell you that this world is named Gaia and consist of seven continents. The technology is at the medieval age with some modern things existing thanks to magic. You will find yourselves with this information and more inside your mind when you wake up. We don’t want you entirely helpless or it will take way to much time considering you got the weakest race. Good luck and try not to die within three seconds. Remember to run at once since you’re going to one of the more dangerous places. Good luck!”

That was the last thing I heard before he pushed me inn without giving me a chance to protest about the last thing he said. When he pushed me inn I felt a strange pull, the pull got stronger and stronger until I couldn’t take it any longer and started to feel my consciousness fading. I suddenly started thinking about what Argus said about running the second I woke up there, which I find weird considering slimes don’t even have legs. I chuckle a little to myself before everything went black.
