Chapter 78

Usually, when a wealthy CEO says they’ll look for a hotel or an apartment for someone to rent, the sane person would take them up on the offer.

However, Xiao Yi had long known that his childhood friends were not sane.

As he stood next to a speechless V, watching as his teammates put down the ‘emergency futons’ that Lee left in the free-use storage closet for this floor, he could only lean over and gloat. “If you didn’t want this, you shouldn’t have offered to let them pull out mats or sleep on the ground.”

V’s head snapped to look at him, his mouth opening and closing like a goldfish that wanted to leap back into the fish tank at any moment. Xiao Yi raised his eyebrow and smirked as he turned to watch at his childhood friends.

Since Xiao Yi hadn’t said anything, they made good on V’s offer and had even rearranged the living room slightly, pulling the couch out and pushing the coffee table up to the couch to give themselves more room. There was enough space for 4, and the 5th futon was rolled out onto the couch itself.

Xiao Yi had no issues with them staying with him, but he did have to admit that the apartment was pretty crowded if they wanted to stay a long time.

He’d gained closure but that didn’t mean that he couldn’t try to become friends with them again.

The fact that they were currently moving into his living room instead of taking V’s suggestion to find a hotel meant that they’d gotten their own closure, too. Or, at least they weren’t absolutely livid at him. It was good enough for him.

Just as he’d gotten lost in his thought, V leaned over and whispered. “It’s not that I have a problem, but what about your brother?”

“…”

Oh, Xiao Qiu would absolutely not allow them to move in if he were here.

In fact… He might just kick them to the streets while laughing.

Xiao Yi turned to V with a serious expression. “It’s good that he’s busy.”

Mu Yichen was the first person to finish making his makeshift bed. He walked over to the two occupants of the apartment, and then continued walking until he made it to the balcony. V watched as he completely ignored Xiao Yi’s chair and walked up to his, slumping down in a huff.

“Of all the chairs…” V began ranting as he walked out to the balcony. “Why’d you have to choose mine? There are four fold-up chairs you could plop your ass into, let alone the two others!”

Mu Yichen glanced up from his position but didn’t move, stating. “It didn’t have a blanket or a bunch of beer cans on it.”

Xiao Yi covered his lips with his hand and acted like he didn’t hear anything.

They hadn’t cleaned up since their last drinking session, but V had promised to get to it this morning.

He didn’t.

Tang An walked over as well, offering. “I can clean up, it’s the least we can do if you’re going to let us stay.”

“Who let you…”

“Didn’t you offer us the floor?”

V had nothing to say.

Ten minutes later, Xiao Yi still hadn’t moved from leaning against the wall, just observing everyone without adding anything to the conversation despite being the owner.

Tang An had kept his promise, the balcony was cleaned of any cigarette butts, cans, bottles, the blanket was thrown into the wash and he’d even cleaned off the four folded-up chairs and rearranged the balcony so everyone had some room to sit.

V had successfully stolen his chair back, and Mu Yichen sulked in one of the fold-up chairs.

“He’s still the mother of the group.”

Xiao Yi glanced away from Tang An, who was bringing the recyclables downstairs, and met Chen Qiang’s eyes.

Chen Qiang smiled slightly, adding. “You still haven’t messaged our parents.”

“I forgot.”

Chen Qiang glanced at him with knowing eyes. “Yeah, you forgot. It’s okay, they’re still waiting.”

“…”

He suddenly felt like he was a scumbag again.
