Chapter 11: Turning the Tables Between Life and Death (2)

"Brother, forgive me, I don't want to do this," he said.

Li Yan pursed his lips, remaining silent.

He Andong's grip on the Type 54 Black Star pistol was steady, betraying years of rigorous training.

In Li Yan's eyes, the intensity of the red aura emanating from He Andong was boiling over, even showing a tendency to shift towards a dark purple hue.

After all, having the gun's muzzle pressed against his chest by an experienced and composed River and Ocean Thief left little chance for turning the tables.

"Killing me now doesn't make much sense, does it?"

"Turn your head away."

Li Yan took a few deep breaths, his teeth grinding audibly, but without much hesitation, he decisively turned his head.

However, He Andong did not see the black ripples that flickered in Li Yan's eyes as he turned.

"You have obtained some information, would you like to view it? Viewing will cost some Yan Fu Points."

"Yes!"

Instantly, a cool sensation flooded Li Yan's brain.

"You have chosen to activate A Fleeting Glance on the target, obtaining information or insights into their weaknesses without further prompts, and Yan Fu Points will be deducted directly."

"Target locked: He Andong. This lock can be released at any time."

"Unfortunately, you have not discerned the opponent's weakness. If the target remains under A Fleeting Glance for an extended period, the likelihood of discovering their weaknesses increases."

You have obtained the following information:

Name: He Andong

Condition: Fatigued, minor injuries.

Expertise: Firearms 39%/100%

Skills:

1. Well-trained: Enhancement of comprehensive combat abilities.

2. Killing Like Hemp: 87/100 (Locked)

Threat Level: Dark Red

Assessment: In principle, we do not support engaging in combat against Firearms without any inheritance abilities. Of course, for threats below the black level, you have the potential to triumph. Good luck.

If ten thousand Hong Kong dollars only bought the above text, Li Yan could essentially declare himself afk and flip off Tapir, that deadbeat.

A Fleeting Glance, ranked alongside ES Series Potion as one of the Purchase Authorities granted to Li Yan by Tapir, was undoubtedly valuable in Tapir's view!

Even if it was just the moment before he turned his head, Li Yan still vividly felt that his perception of He Andong had somehow detached from the rest of the world. The contraction of every muscle, the slight rise and fall of his chest, and even the slight deformation of the skin on his finger as it pressed against the trigger were all crystal clear to him. This surreal experience was unprecedented for Li Yan.

Had He Andong not drawn his gun, within eight steps, Li Yan was confident that in such a state, he could have taken He Andong down on the spot!

However, once Li Yan turned around, this peculiar state vanished without a trace, leaving only the cold sensation of the gun's muzzle pressed against his lower back. Li Yan had no doubt that any sudden movement would result in He Andong pulling the trigger without mercy. The bullet would diagonally pierce through his lung, ending his life in a short span. All his Bagua Palm, Crane Cry Fist, and the lofty 81% talent in Ancient Martial Arts would be rendered meaningless.

"You move as I say," He Andong whispered into Li Yan's ear.

"If I were you, I wouldn't go back to report. Maybe the Flying Tigers Squadron hasn't had the time to encircle this place yet. Using me as a cover to break out is your only chance to live," Li Yan said, his words a mix of truth and deception.

After a moment of silence, He Andong replied calmly, "I led them out here; it's my responsibility to bring them all back."

Li Yan's eyes narrowed slightly, betraying no hint of his thoughts.

"Let's go!"

He Andong pushed Li Yan down the stairs. They zigzagged for a while through Nine Dragon City's alleyways, so narrow that they barely allowed for a little more than a shoulder's breadth, and the apartments were even more cramped. It wasn't long before they stopped in front of a door.

"Knock."

He Andong spoke softly.

With no other choice, Li Yan rapped forcefully on the iron gate. Soon, an old man with a white coat and sunken eyes opened a crack in the door, peering out at Li Yan through the bars.

"Who are you looking for?"

"Uncle Wen, it's me."

He Andong's head peeked out from behind Li Yan.

"Ah Dong? What's going on..."

"Uncle Wen, let us in first. I'll explain later."

Uncle Wen pursed his lips subtly and nodded, proceeding to unlock the chain on the door.

He Andong ushered Li Yan inside what appeared to be a private clinic. The room was divided into an inner and outer section, filled with the scent of disinfectant which even overpowered the pervasive fishy smell of the apartment building.

A man lay groaning softly on a stretcher in the inner room, his body wrapped in bandages, and a tray beside him held seven or eight deformed bullets.

Additionally, two men with somber expressions were present—one standing by the stretcher and the other sitting in silence, smoking a cigarette.

"Brother Dong."

"Brother Dong."

The man from the chair stood up, while the one on the stretcher also called out to He Andong.

He Andong pushed Li Yan towards the man who had stood up, his Black Star handgun still trained on Li Yan.

"Gao Cheng, get a rope and tie his hands. Be careful; this one might have had some training."

Li Yan's predicament seemed to have worsened, yet he secretly breathed a sigh of relief. To him, this was far better than if He Andong had actually tried to break through with him in tow.

This wasn't mainland China of the future, and the encircling forces weren't the People's Police. To think that one could point at the Hong Kong Police, who shout "Long live the English Queen," and expect them to understand that the safety of people's lives and property comes above all else—wouldn't that be a joke?

Therefore, he had little faith that the police would hesitate to act for fear of harming the innocent when faced with a gang of desperate and vicious bandits. When the time came, he feared he might end up as a burial companion to the outlaws, and even if not, Li Yan had no desire to gamble.

To stay alive, one couldn't rely on others!

"Ah Dong, didn't we agree on this? Why did you bring someone else here again?" Uncle Wen complained.

He Andong smiled sheepishly at the old man, "Sorry, Uncle Wen, I've got another forty thousand in my bag, plus the twenty thousand from before, take it all. We might need to stay here a bit longer, and I'm entrusting my brother's wounds to you."

The old man's expression softened a bit, "Ah Dong, you don't need to be so formal, we're good friends after all. I'll definitely help you out in your time of need."

As he spoke, he turned as if to fetch something, but a flash of ferocity crossed He Andong's face. His right hand lifted, and the muzzle of his gun spat out a blinding tongue of flame. Uncle Wen's head was shattered in an instant, blood and brain matter exploding in a ghastly display, specks of pallid grey splattering across Li Yan's face.

Li Yan grimaced, letting the disgusting matter slide off his face while marveling at Ah Dong's ruthless decisiveness.

Although Red Ghost hadn't made it clear over the phone why the police had found them so quickly, there was no doubt that the old man in the white coat was the prime suspect, and there was clearly no time left for him to prove his innocence...

"Brother Dong, how could you...?"

The man sitting on the bed stood up in shock.

He Andong lowered his hand, saying, "He tipped off the cops, they'll be here any minute. We need to leave now."

"What?!"

Both men's faces turned an ashen hue, the one by the bed collapsing onto a stool, the picture of despair.

Nine Dragon City was incomparable to the outside; it was too cramped and congested, a labyrinthine mess. Once the police had them cornered here, there would be no escape.

"What about Little Jin?" Gao Cheng asked, reacting faster than the others, but his question silenced everyone.

"East... Brother Dong..."

Little Jin's lips quivered on the bed, calling out with a tremor.

He Andong strode over, taking Little Jin's hand with a firm and steady gaze.

"Little Jin, do you trust Brother Dong?"

"East... Brother Dong..."

"Do you trust me?!"

He Andong roared.

"I trust..."

"Listen to me, in Hong Kong, you won't be sentenced to death for not being a pirate. Stay here, and the police will take you to the hospital. Wait for Brother Dong. As long as I, He Andong, have breath in my body, I will storm the jail and rescue you..."

Little Jin's face grew paler as he listened, mouth agape.

"No way!"

The man sitting by the bed suddenly looked up.
