Chapter Six - Submission

Immaculate. Mo, had a real talent for his job, Bernard thought as he paged through the document that had been left on his desk. The extraction, tear down, loading, transit between sites, unloading, and deployment. All documented with exacting precision and detail. The program really did produce quality supervisors.

The bottom left drawer of his metal desk slid open with ease despite its age. Bernard took good care of his desk. It was a classic, a relic even. A gift from his wife for his 20th work anniversary, bought on auction after being salvaged from a ruin from a time before the cataclysm. This drawer in particular was extra special. It was one of those fancy drawers with the flimsy little lock that kept out nosy intruders but posed no obstacle to an actual legitimate thief. And this particular unit still had a key!

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

“A pity.”

Mo’s report struck the bottom of the drawer with a thud. Then it slid back shut. Its key turned in its lock, spinning the metal latch within to its closed position with an always satisfying spring loaded snap.

And then he sent his own instead.
