Chapter 2: Being Forced

In just a few moments everyone's sight of the classroom disappeared. They found themselves within a luxurious hall with the salient presence of an armoured king sitting on his throne, looking down on the class that stands before him. Numerous knights cladded in silver armour covered with blue and yellow stood beside the King with blades in hand. They surrounded the confused youth taking a stance as they circle everyone.

"Stand down, my Knights." The King ordered.

All the knights put their blades down in unison, letting the iron rest on the ground it touches.

A powerful aura surrounded the King, causing Ace to be on guard more than usual. He knows that this King is no joke, every cell and fibre in his body was telling him to run away.

Everyone began to question their new situation. Just minutes before, they were just waiting for a quiz to be handed to them, not some unexpected light to engulf them teleporting everyone here.

Alan and Ace, who are the central figures of the class, ensured that everyone was okay. It seems that the entire class had all come along to this newfound situation.

"Forgive me for the sudden event of your arrival. I am King Regis the Ruler of the Creles Empire." He stood and bowed towards the class.

Everyone had a different reaction. Some girls stood behind while the boys kept on their guard about what to do.

"So... where are we?" Ace spoke up while giving them a glare towards the King. Ace made sure to analyse his surroundings, but his eyes kept focusing on the King's sword as it stood out to him. A beautiful white blade with light blue edges. The style and appearance were completely different from the Knight's standardised gear. Ace knew that the sword wasn't some fancy cosmetic, in fact, it was the very weapon that was emitting fear in his body.

"In a land called Alterea, I have summoned you here for my selfish request."

Ace's eyes lit up, and the fear in his body had disappeared. Blood began rushing and pumping hearing the King's words.

"So you're the source of all these strange disappearances that happened years ago? What about the one from three years ago?!" Ace asked in an angered tone. His voice rose in frustration once he referred to the previous disappearance.

Everyone kept their mouth shut as they were too on guard with the knights surrounding them. Ace was the only one brave enough to speak out his mind knowing there might be consequences if he said something out of line.

"Perhaps, but I am not the only Kingdom doing such a method. The reason I have summoned you people here is to request your aid."

Everyone had confused expressions, yet some knew what was going on. Knowing fantasy novels and stories, they didn't expect to be in such a reality. Ace caught on to what happened to him, and his class started to demand questions from the King.

"So why us? What's the reason of you guys summoning us to this world? This ain't some funny joke to summon a group of students to be your handymen."

"I know it is not right of us to do so. But the reason I have done the inevitable your world has many people with high potential. Potential to aid us in the war to summarise my point; our world is no longer in balance and our wars are all but in stalemate. That's why I used such forbidden power to summon everyone here."

"Can you explain a bit further...?" Alan finally mustered up the courage to ask the King.

The King explained more about why he needed the class here in this one. To summarise, the kingdoms are at war for many different reasons. To turn the tides of war, kingdoms have used the last of their forbidden magic to summon those from another world and train them to be super soldiers or Heroes, as they call them. As stated earlier, thanks to their great potential and strength, they will drastically increase their chances of victory once they are trained enough.

"So what's in it for us? You've caused our world enough inconvenience...! What the hell happened to the others?!" Ace's tone gradually became worst, surprising everyone with his anger.

"Hmph... a slight repeat, then I will execute those who don't help us! If you want to go back home you have to aid us to win our war! Otherwise, my blade will finally see some blood on its edges once again." He threatened. Regis's blade began glowing a bright blue. The Knights took notice and aimed their swords at Ace's neck.

Everyone thought about complaining once they mustered up the courage but stopped right after seeing Ace as the perfect example of what would happen. They lost the confidence and ability to argue back, only to listen to their instinct to retreat. They watched everything unfold as the Knights are a sword reach of cutting Ace's head off.

"Ace...!" Aria cried out.

Threatened by the Knights and the King himself, Ace gave up and started to reluctantly comply.

"Tsk... Fine, if we help can you promise us our safe return? We have to be compensated in some way if we're going to help you in this war."

"Of course. I will not allow everyone to go unrewarded and I'll tell you your method of coming home since it aligns with our objectives."

Regis pointed to the floor they stood on. They had a unique pattern with seven holes leading up to the centre where we stood. One of these holes was already filled with a dulled orb. The King explained that they used the power of their only dragonstone to summon the class here. With such power residing, it can allow a variety of uses. In this case, Regis used its dormant power to summon Heroes. Currently, this Orb is recharging, but no one knows when it can be used again.

As a motivator for the class, their goal is to help conquer the other warring kingdoms standing in their way. Where it is believed that each Kingdom holds a dragonstone. These are all needed to teleport the class back to their world, so the King says.

The class began whispering to one another, hearing murmurs of 'This isn't a dream, right?' and 'Are we seriously going to fight?!' The King intends to make this group of students his main fighting force in the war, making Ace angry.

"How are we supposed to trust you? Other’s have been dragged in this world because of you right?!"

The Knights went into their stance angered that Ace spoke out of line as he felt the cold steel edge of one of the Knight's swords on his throat.

"Let down your weapons, he has every right to question me. Forgive me, hero, to gain your trust we will train you to the best of our ability. These are desperate times and you should be desperate to get home too... that's why I ask for your help." The King answered him.

"So... what makes us different from the rest...?"

Alan asked, who was still bound in fear. His legs wobbled, reacting to the Knights surrounding his class. The way the King looked down on them didn't help either.

"I forgot... you are new to this world. How about a demonstration? Try to imagine a card in front of you, as if your personality was written on this imaginary card."

Driven by curiosity, everyone began to follow the King's instructions. Soon after, numerous characters and letters appeared out of thin air for everyone to surprise the class.

Ace followed suit as everyone did the action around him. In an instant, a text appeared before his eyes. Still, when he'd looked at others, their text looked to be unrecognisable characters on his end. When he read his status, it came up with a description of his numerical stats.

Ace has read his fair share of fantasy novels and comics, and he can't tell whether his starting stats are significant or not.

"You have seen your stats correct? The average person usually starts these stats with 10 on each category but you alone should have much more. I will explain more information later on but I feel this is all overwhelming for you as of right now."

"So we just need to get you the dragon stones and we're out of here right?"

"Precisely, that is all you need to do for me. Though its easier said than done."

Ace let out a sigh. There was no getting out of this one. Even if he found some way to escape, where would he go? How will he go back with his friends and classmates? He decided to reluctantly agree with the King as dissatisfied as he is.

"We don't have a choice..." Alan said.

"Ugh... we're not dreaming either."

"If we want to go back we have to fight..."

"The central figures have said it themselves."

Everyone reluctantly agreed it was their only choice.

"I will get you to your rooms right after I introduce you to your trainers. You may come in." Regis signalled his knights, who guard the door behind us.

Footsteps are heard from the hallway where multiple individuals cladded in different outfits are gathered behind us, lined up. As stated in their outfits, these people seemed to represent a different job.

"It's best to choose a job that suits your representative stats but please discuss how everyone will fight once I will send you to your rooms. For now, trainers come in and introduce yourselves."

The students received a barrage of introductions as every trainer introduced themselves one by one. However, Ace was not interested in any of the trainer’s jobs, until he saw someone amidst the crowd. He focused his eyes on a particular man who intentionally lowered his presence in hopes of not getting noticed.

"Razor, I believe I gave my order to introduce yourself." No one else noticed him but Regis and Ace. He gave up his small plot to avoid all the hassle and began to introduce himself.

"I'm Razor, a rogue. Come to me if you want to hold the same job." His voice sounded stern, yet it felt calming, hiding away a kind demeanour. The man appears to be around 180 cm tall, holding multiple scars on his face with an eyepatch on his right eye. He wore bladed gauntlets that looked like they could kill someone if he rammed his arm into them. His vest holds many pockets, whereas the most noticeable was his throwing knives. A typical assassin's outfit.

Ace paid attention to the various weaponry and equipment he was wearing, multiple daggers, and two short blades on each side of his hip. He looked at the other trainers and found no interest in comparison to Razor.

"Do keep in mind that the trainers will choose whether to accept you whether if you are suitable to that specific job. They can easily tell with their level. With that being said you will meet them again tomorrow morning after breakfast. The maids will show you to your rooms."

A group of maids walked out of the hallway greeting the glass with a bow.

Everyone in Ace's class looked at each other giving small comments about their situation. After giving a quick exchange or comment they followed the maids into a dormitory building outside the castle. However, it was still within the Kingdom's highest and most fortified walls as it was built for the Heroes' arrival, where they would spend their days until they could get back home.

The building was very luxurious yet comfy at the same time but inadvertently attempted to calm the students to forget their forced situation.

Everyone grabbed a room where the building separated the boys and the girls. Ace's room was the closest one to the living room as he wanted to make sure that he'd be the first to hear if anyone wanted to try to eavesdrop on his classmates.

After settling in the dorm and wearing the new clothes accompanying their room, they all had a strategic meeting where Ace and Freya, one of the girls, kept watch. They planned on eating in the dining hall in a few hours, so they had plenty of time to discuss their plans till then.

"I don't hear anything... what about you Freya?" Waiting for the girl's reply.

Ace has always been perceptive due to his role as a Disciplinary Committee Captain, ensuring order within the school. He took on the role to deter any bad events in the school and care for the students in need.

"Don't worry they're gone I don't think the Knights would be guarding our dorms since its already in range with the patrols I saw,"

Freya is another perceptive classmate and is also Ace's cousin. The two often went hunting from a young age making their perception skills much higher than those in their class.

"The coast is clear...?" Alan

"If Freya confirmed it then we should be fine." Ace answered.

Everyone sat on the sofa gathered up, knowing their current situation.

"So we're going to fight right...?" Caspar said.

"Of course! Is there anything else we can do?!" Warren replied angrily.

"Calm down there, Warren", Glenn, a friend of the group, spoke from behind.

"So tomorrow we're going to pick our jobs right? The class system of this world?" Alan spoke up.

Apparently, the status and the jobs seemed all video game-like, but in reality, it is not a game at all after being threatened by the King. The fear and aura they felt from Regis were very much real. There is no way for the class to approach this with an optimistic mindset.

"We might as well discuss what kind of stats and roles we might take if we want to survive. We need to ensure we have some sort of balance of range and melee fighters. Though I prefer not to fight after having a sword near my neck. We don't have much of a choice." Ace explained.

"That King... his emotion did not change at all. He looked down on us like indispensable tools." Vella said worryingly.

"Still I'm amazed you weren't wetting yourself out there Ace my legs were frozen in place the whole time," Ryu said, as his legs still shook the more he remembered the confrontation.

Ace recalled Regis's words in anger.

"...I thought we could've negotiated our way out but after being threatened we might as well comply for now." Ace replied.

The group of students started to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of their stats. They wondered what jobs to take and managed to even out the frontliners and the backlines. With their jobs and lineup looking like this.

Front Liners

-Ace (Rogue)

-Warren (Swordsman)

-Alan (Paladin)

-Aria (Spell Warrior)

-Hilda (Valkryie)

-Hubert (Swordsman)

-Caspar (Warrior)

-Glenn (Paladin)

-Ryu (Monk)

-Bridget (Valkryie)

Back Liners

-Vella (Healer)

-Freya (Archer)

-Emilia (Mage)

-Isabelle (Mage)

-Lucia (Healer)

-Gin (Archer)

-Mia (Bard)

-Soren (Mage)

-Marcia (Summoner)

-Bryce (Templar)

These decisions were made finally as some of the students' hobbies can be carried over with the jobs they choose to undertake. Once they were done, they were called in for dinner, eating luxurious meals they had never eaten before.

Everyone went to bed early after dinner, hoping everything was a dream. Some of the students reside in each other's rooms while some converse in the living room. Ace, on the other hand, went outside for fresh air.

"Who's there?" He sensed someone following him. He kept on his guard thinking it was someone spying on the class, but it was Aria.

"Its- me!" Aria got shocked as Ace gave her a glare. He ended his expression immediately once he realised who was behind him.

"Oh, you can't sleep?" Ace calmed down, feeling the tension from his body drift away, knowing that the presence he felt was a friend rather than a soldier of the Kingdom.

"Mmm... today got me thinking about several things. We're not the only ones that were teleported here right? Is it possible we could be facing other people like us...?" The theory Aria thought up made sense, peaking Ace's attention.

"I don't want to think that... but perhaps they might be dead as well..." He had a particular person in mind letting out a sigh.

"Don't say that! It's unlucky... I don't want to think of that possibility it could even happen to us...! If any of us dies..." Aria started being negative, with Ace giving a small pat on her shoulder to calm her down.

"Unlikely, I thought you threw away that negative mindset after Rinea was expelled."

"That's because we're in a new situation. It's best if we don't anger anyone in anything we do... Besides, you should've held back Ace." Aria replied.

"I don't think our class will do anything like that anyway. It's like what you said. We're in a new situation and an unknown environment. We have to be cautious."

"Yeah, you're right..."

Ace had gotten enough fresh air and was about to go back inside to finally rest for the day.

"I think I stayed long enough here, are you coming with? I'm going inside now."

"I'll stay here for a bit... good night Ace."

"Yeah, you too." Giving a faint smile.

Aria noticed this smile, but she knew something was always off about it. It was because Ace's smile sometimes never matched his face as if they were forced. There are times when Ace would genuinely smile, but it saddened Aria because she knew it was another of Ace's fake smiles, letting her know that he was fine and telling her what was wrong. She left it be, focusing on their new objective in this new world.

Before sleeping, Ace checked up on his wallet and phone. The only two items that were with him were during their teleportation. Looking at the two photographs, he held in his wallet. One with him and a group of friends, where Warren, Alan and Caspar are in it alongside many other boys. The other was with Aria and him on a school trip. Aria insisted that Ace take the photo, so it's been stuck with him since then.

"How long will I be here...?" He wondered.

"What are the chances? You must’ve been teleported here too. That means, there’s an opportunity to find you.” He held a third photograph hidden beneath the first two photos. It was a photo of him and another girl about whom no one else knew about.

Ace held a stern expression with doubt in his mind.
