Kiaan’s resolve wavered as the thought took root. The illusion was right; if he died, his family’s chances of survival would vanish.

"Even if I switch, what will change? The result is fixed… I’m weaker in every way."

The illusion hovered closer, face-to-face with him, until their eyes were almost touching. Something shifted. Kiaan, who had been shivering with fear, now stood motionless, a different look in his eyes.

Kiaan, now under the control of his other personality, looked at the monster and began to laugh. As the beast charged forward, he laughed even louder, voice wild and unhinged.

"Am I gonna die… or are you? Who’s gonna die? Who’s gonna die? Who’s gonna die?" he sang out, eyes glinting with a new, dangerous intensity.

He blocked the monster with Bloom vines, though it broke free, rushing toward him. Kiaan took a punch from the beast, grinned, and retaliated with a punch of his own, sending it staggering. He grabbed a blood-soaked vine from the ground, and licked the monster’s blood from its thorn, savouring the taste.

Then, a glitch-system message appeared, revealing the stats of his monstrous human.
