Hello and thank you for reading. I hope you liked the novel, and I thought I would share some plans for the series.
Before I do, if you did like the novel, please rate and comment. Let me know what you liked or didn’t like. Who’s the fan-favorite character? (My vote is Upset.) Or even if you just want to see the next book.
So, as new authors are wont to do, there are 5 books in this series, with a more web-fiction prequel. If people are interested, I’d love to share more.
The Storyteller Saga is a multi-generational story, with each book following a different animal that was reincarnated as a rabbit. Except for the prequel, of course.
Minor spoilers under the tags for some bare-bones original thoughts on the books. They’re not particularly spoilery and definitely subject to change, but I understand if you’d prefer not to know.
Overall Antagonist Plan
The other ideas stemmed from lesser aspects of monsters. Foxvale had a fairly distinct blend of ghosts and werewolf lore that combined in a somewhat new way. So, the other monsters became a demon whose forbidden knowledge was engineering, a vampire as the bringer of the white blindness, a coven of witches being hunted by a powerful psychic aberration, and a lich in the style of Koschei the Deathless.
Book 0: Starbasin
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
A serial story about how Rhizome met Erebrus and became the first storyteller, snatching free will from Fate. Vaguely inspired by 12 Labors of Hercules. The change of Death from the Black Rabbit to Erebus and Rhizome really helped the end of the first book. (Originally called Oakwell, but I apparently named a lot of things and people Oak____.)
Book 1: Foxvale
The original in-my-head pitch was a werewolf story in a world without silver. While Blackfeather was always the first storyteller I had, Bremen was a fox he had interacted with, and with that selection, the choice of werefoxes was obvious. The ghost possession evolved out of the way Bremen would fight off the ‘curse’. Although, tricking the fox possessing him into thinking it won existed more or less since that decision, with those chapters shifting entirely into 3rd person. That didn’t go well with the alpha-readers, so I sprinkled in some 1st person hints. Anyhow, I think it worked this time.
Book 2: Blackbriar
A flashback to Blackfeather, Mandrake and a kit called Voice struggling against a storyteller who has found terrible power. Including the summoning of a demon who has the forbidden knowledge of engineering and math. Cameos with Sathe, Bremen, and Corbin. As a flashback, I wanted to set this at the ‘next’ storyteller meeting, so that we could meet some characters who would be in the next book.
Book 3: Whitelands
A plague of white-blindness infects the land, spread by a vampire-as-plaguebringer. Twitch, Konal and Chestnut do their best to stop it.
Book 4: Hedgering
A coven of not-witches help/hinder Rebel as he uncovers a murder done by a psychic attempting to hunt them down.
Book 5: Hazelford
Whitepaw is finally undone by Sathe and his ancestral memory. With a hint that Lutin’s grandson may become the next in the line.
