4: A dream

"Ookayyy... Ok then, good night."

"Good night"

I get in the bed and suck the mana from the Light Crystals.

I close my eyes. This day was... Really something else... I don't know what to make of Duncan. I am happy that I summoned the first S rank servant ever, but at the same time... I don't know, he is so indifferent and hardly says anything. It's like he doesn't care about anything. I tried to make conversation many times but he only gave short responses.

Well, I guess it can't be helped. Being summoned somewhere and not remembering who he is can be stressful... Maybe he will open up in the next few days...

Tomorrow I need to pay a visit to the library. We are assuming that Duncan is someone who existed, but for all we know, he may have not. Yes, legends usually come from real stories, but sometimes they are not. If Duncan legend is not based on a real story, we will not find him in the records... So I need to search the library for a legend with a white mage character.

As I am thinking about that, I start to fall into deep sleep.

...

I am dreaming. I see... A white haired boy, 5 or 6 years old. He is sitting on a woman's lap. They are in a large room, full of luxurious furniture and expensive frames. They are looking outside of a large open window.

"Hey mom, why is my hair white?"

"It's because you are very special Al."

"But... My brothers and sister have yellow hair like you, and father hair is green. Why is my hair white and not yellow or green?"

"Because my love, you have a huge source of mana. You have more mana than all our family put together. And the hair color is not defined by your parents colors."

"How much mana?"

"Well, I have around 8300 mana units, that's why I am blonde. Your father has around 4700 mana units, and your brothers also have around 8000 mana units, and that's why they have blonde hair."

She is right. The parents hair color does not ultimately define the childs hair color, but it helps a bit. In other words, if both parents are blonde, the child has a greater chance of being blonde too, but it's not guaranteed. That child might be born with a completely different color. If I remember right:

Violet mage/hair average mana units is 500;

Blue mage/hair average mana units is 1000;

Light Blue mage/hair average mana units is 2000;

Green mage/hair average mana units is 4000;

Yellow mage/hair average mana units is 8000;

Orange mage/hair average mana units is 16000;

Red mage/hair average mana units is 32000.

And a white mage/hair is...

"You my son, you have 85000 mana units."

These numbers are astronomical for a little kid like him, but he seems to understand the numbers. It looks like he already started his studies.

"Haa... I see..."

They stay like that for some time.

"Mom, can I go outside?"

"Sure, but you have to come back before evening."

"Alright!"

The boy jumps to the ground and runs outside.

His mansion is huge, nevermind the gardens. It wouldn't be an overstatement saying the whole place is half the size of Strasnorths Academy. His family must be very important. Their mansion is located on the top of a hill, overlooking a small town. Only one road connects the mansion and the town.

The boy, now in the gardens, runs towards the wall, makes sure no one is around, and he jumps over it using Wind Magic...

He runs towards a river, 1 kilometer away from his mansion. Once he reaches the river, a group of 5 black haired boys are waiting for him.

"Al! We're here!"

"Let's play!"

"hummm~~~"

I'm waking up... It's morning already... Looking at my left side, I see Duncan looking outside the window.

*********

I wake up. It's still early. It seems the girl didn't wake up yet.

I get out of bed and look around. The furniture here is what you would expect from any rich room. Except that this furniture is way too expensive for lower nobles. This is really a school for the elite...

There is also a lot of personal items. Necklaces, mirrors, rings, earrings... All of them made of gold and precious rocks. It seems this girl is from an important family, or at least a very rich one.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

Well, whatever. Doesn't really matter.

I have to find a way to get rid of this thing on my hand, and also find out what year it is and what happened to Qahs Holm since I was gone. And also...

I don't like to think about it, but... What if I am from a legend? What if I never existed and my memories are fake and never took place? It's a scary hypothesis, but I can't rule it out. I need to find out if my family name is recorded in history, I need to find out if my war with the nobles is recorded in the books. If I find proof that I existed, then I will know that I am not fake.

The library could be a good place to start but those books are probably monitored. If I open a book, the library will register my name (Duncan, not my real one) along with the book I opened. I am supposed to be amnesic, so I shouldn't show interest in any particular topics. So I should avoid books with very specific topics. I have to start with books with general history information, if I am lucky, they will mention me or at least the war. And as much it pains me, I should postpone my research about this symbol and the contract behind it. I'll gather information about it little by little, by talking with another Servants or students.

She seems to be dreaming. It will take a while for her to wake up. I'll just stand by the window. If she starts to take too much time, I'll wake her up so she doesn't run late for the classes. Like a good Servant.

Half an hour pass.

"hummm~~~"

Good, she is waking up.

"Good morning."

"Ufaaah~~-- Good morning Al..."

!!!

Cold sweat runs through my back.

Wha-! Ho-! How does she know that nickname?!? I hope I was able to hold my poker face.

"I had a dream about a white mage boy. And some people called him Al. Is that you by any chance?"

"Humm, for all I know, maybe. Al doesn't ring any bells. Can you tell me more about the dream?"

She tells me about the dream, with some enthusiasm I might add. She is probably happy that she found a new clue to her puzzle.

Without a doubt, I remember those events. This is not good... Does this mean that she will keep having dreams about me? If that's the case it will be a question of time until she discovers my identity. At least I was lucky enough that she didn't discover my full name... For now... I wonder what will happen as soon she discovers that I am an enemy of the nobles...?

"Hmm, to be honest, your dream is not ringing any bells, but it might be related with me. Try asking your teacher."

"Is that so? Fumuu~... You are really a good for nothing airhead! Did you get a blow in the head before being summoned or something!?"

What the heck?

She notices my upwards eyebrow.

*girly laugh* "Just kidding, this is good. Now I know more about you so it will be easier to search for your legend!"

She has a big smile on her face and gets up from the bed. And it seems like she is convinced that the dream was about me.

"I'll wait outside while you change. You still have some time before class so I suggest you change into your uniform so we can go have some breakfast."

"You're hungry?"

"Not really, but I have to make sure my Master eats well. After all, I only have one."

If I can't find proof that I existed, if I am just from some random legend, if there is no way to break free from this contract, then I should at least have a friendly relationship with her. And who knows? Maybe one day I can somehow show her how corrupt the nobles are... She could lead a rebellion like I did. But this is thinking too far ahead.

"Aaoohh... Then you care about me. How sweet!"

I shrug my shoulders and walk to the door and open it. But before I close, I add:

"Oh, by the way, nice tits."

"Wha---!?!?"

And I close the door. What can I say? I'm the rebellious type.
