Chapter 5 - Magic

Chapter 5 - Magic

Noy handed the Gammiagrass that he had been holding in his hand for a long time to Akriel, "Here, is this the one you asked for?"

Akriel inspected the Gammiagrass closely, "This is one of the rarest Gammiagrass. You are a lucky one aren't you."

“There were a bunch of wolves guarding it as their lives depended upon it. What’s so special about it?”

“This is a source through which they choose their next leader. Only the strongest is allowed to be a leader so they fight with each other to determine it. The one who comes on top is allowed to consume the Gammiagrass. You will know its effect later…”

He then gazed at Noy, "Hmm.. you also seem to have unlocked much mana potential. Looks like you drank some mana liquid on the way."

"If I remember correctly, mana liquid is one of the consumables. If consumed, it is said to have unlocked a huge amount of mana pool in someone. It also has various grades but even consuming the low-grade one is great." Noy thought to himself, "Was it the water that I drank while trapped in that weird room?"

"Weird room? Ahhh seems like you stumbled upon the hidden rooms. There are quite a few of them here but usually, nothing much is found in those rooms. This whole place is full of mana, so maybe mana liquid formed over there in these few centuries. You must have drank that mana liquid.” Akriel explained.

“It seems like those couple of hours were very FRUIT-ful for you." He grinned at his own pun.

Naturally, Noy was weirded out, but he began to feel happy as the path to get strong had opened up for him.

Now with the Gammiagrass in his hand, he wanted to refine it.

The air surrounding Akriel started to swirl around as a large ball of light formed above his hand. As the ball began to glow brighter, he took out a small vial containing a yellow liquid and poured some into the glowing orb. The liquid seemed to start bubbling on the orb before forming into a single shiny pill that fell onto Akriel's hand.

He then asked Noy to swallow the pill.

Noy now had trust in Akriel as he was the one who saved him and the one who gave him food. But he still couldn't completely put his blind trust in him since he said he was a prisoner, it made him kind of suspicious. Nevertheless, the fact that he was saved far outweighed the suspicion.

"Okay," Noy replied.

As soon as he swallowed the pill, he could feel the intense pain running through his body. His vision blurred, making it hard for him to see anything. He tried to move but soon found out that he couldn't. His muscles were completely paralyzed.

The slightly red hair that Noy previously had, turned into white. His jawline became a little more pointed and his body grew slightly taller and wider.

His body felt like it had been crushed by thousands of buildings and had a headache that seemed like it would burst out any second. It felt like an eternity before the pain finally subsided.

When he regained his senses, he saw Akriel smiling and sitting next to him.

"How are you feeling?" He asked.

"I'm okay... I think."

Noy could feel that he got stronger than before all of a sudden. All his muscles felt fresh and alive.

"What happened?"

"The pill that I prepared for you remakes your body to evolve greatly in the future. It will make you physically strong. But you have to train hard to achieve its peak form." Akriel spoke.

"Originally, I wanted to make you into a swordsman since you didn't have much mana. So, I asked you to bring Gammiagrass. However, it looks like I should make a tweak to your training program. Now you will have to train in both physical and magical aspects of your body. Let’s see which weapon you are most compatible with first…"

Akriel then proceeded to take out all kinds of weapons ranging from archers to shields and all the weapons in between.

Noy tried out swords, axe, shields, archers, spears, lances, and more one by one.

“None of this feels that comfortable to use. I am a little compatible with swords since I learned about them before but it feels like it’s not ideal for me.”

Lastly, he went on to try out a small sharp-edged knife…

“Woah… I never thought daggers were this easy to use. This feels so much more comfortable than any other weapons that I tried out before.”

“Dagger huh?” Akriel then took out daggers of various lengths, “Here try these out”

Noy tried out all those daggers and picked the short one, “Okay this one. I like this one.”

“Short one huh. You will need to be in a closer range for it to be effective. Perhaps you should try this as well.” Akriel pulled out a short dagger hanging by the short chain, “This is a chained dagger. You will be able to adjust the length of the chain by adjusting the mana that you input into it.”

“Uhh, How do I use mana? I haven’t learned anything about it.”

“Everyone is born with a mana flowing throughout their body. So just direct some of that mana to the dagger and the dagger will be enhanced with your own mana.”

“Okay. I’ll give it a go.”

Noy closed his eyes with the chained dagger in his hand. He concentrated and could feel his mana flow inside his body. After grasping the feeling of the mana, he then channeled it to the dagger and the short chain that the dagger had widened but it quickly shrank down.

“You should maintain the mana inside the chain and dagger for it to remain in the form that you intended.” Akriel pointed out.

Noy nodded and repeated the process until he could finally adjust the length of the chain as he wanted.

He breathed heavily, “That was hard but I can do it now. I feel it. This is the one for me.”

Akriel smiled, “Do you know about the different classes?”

“I’ve heard about it but don’t know in detail.”

“It’s the usage of the mana that determines their classes. Normally, there are the classes of archer, fighter, swordsman, assassin, tank, and mage, and within it, there are numerous sub-classes.

There are also cases of some being able to attain two different classes like a magic swordsman, berserker mage, tanky archer, and others. Considering you feel compatible with the dagger, you will fall under an assassin class. However, it's not a normal dagger but a chained dagger so it can also be classified under the fighter class.”

Noy jumped with excitement upon hearing those words, "Then I will be the magical fighter/assassin of the century. There have been only 3 others who attained this class since our empire's founding in 500 years."

Akriel became surprised, "What do you mean, you will be 'of the century'?"

"Since birth, we can only choose between one class. When we reach the age of 10, that is when our talent starts to bloom and we choose the path which we want to follow. Sometimes there are early or late bloomers but that is the normal age. There had also been magic swordsman and others with two different classes but it is so rare that it only appears once a decade or even a century. At least, this is what my parents told me."

Akriel face palmed his face and said to himself, "It is rare but it shouldn’t be that scarce. What are those angels doing now?"

Noy gave a questioning look to Akriel and asked, "Are you alright?"

"Oh, yeah... I am fine. Just thinking about something."

"About what?"

"That's a secret."

"Oh."

"How long do you want to train?"

"As much as I can since I don't have anywhere to return to, before getting stronger."

"Don't forget to eat and sleep too."

"I know."

"It will be very hard for you, so be prepared for it. No matter what I say, you have to complete the given task without any laziness. Otherwise, you will never grow strong enough."

Noy nodded.

After such a dramatic short conversation, Akriel pointed to the ground and said, "Okay. Do pushups."

"Huh?"
