"Unlike Resurrection, the Level Up ritual does not read your body's glyph. Instead, it utilizes one of the many predefined human-blueprints that are contained within the spell.
1) It first selects the blueprint chosen by the user.
2) It overwrites a part of your body to make you stronger.
3) Lastly, it fills in any missing parts in your glyph using the blueprint, thereby healing you with artificial tissues." Nathan wrote on the board and said, emphasizing the last step with a wave of his hand. "Yes, this ritual can create artificial tissues."
"By overwriting, do you mean..." Tiffany questioned with a furrowed brow and a worried tone, leaning forward.
"Yes, it can turn you into something different. For example, let's say someone's fighting style is centered around strength. They could become more powerful as a Spellcaster if they chose the blueprint known as the Mage Class." Nathan said.
"Do you mean someone who does push-ups everyday could have gained leg strength instead?" Winnie found this strange.
"Yes, exactly." Nathan answered, nodding his head in agreement.
"Who on Earth would like that?" Bob furrowed his eyebrows.
Nathan smiled and tilted his head, conveying a sense of helplessness as he did not know either. Then, he continued. "In Bob's case, I hacked the Level Up spell and used Behemoth and Leviathan's glyphs for filling in the blank, turning him into a human, Behemoth and Leviathan hybrid."
"Ah! I get it." Bob said.
Nathan continued to write on the board and talk, "However, Level Up required two things:
1) You must receive the Level Up Blessing, similar to Liliana's Blessing of Divine Power.
2) You need a huge amount of Mana in order to activate the process.
The Resurrection spell draws Mana from the caster's own reserves, while the Level Up ritual utilizes Mana stockpiled from battles. For healing to take place, Bob had to absorb a substantial amount of Mana from battles."
"Next up is Mana Absorption. I needed Bob to be capable of this so that he could accumulate sufficient Mana for healing to occur." Nathan continued.
"Liliana’s Blessing and her Divine Power prevents you from absorbing Mana through killing. It ensures that you won't become stronger unless you go to a church, where there are Divine Power generators that convert natural Mana into Divine Power." Nathan explained. "This is completely opposite to the Level Up blessing, which encourages its users to venture into the wilderness for natural Mana and constantly engage in combat."
"Now, why is it set up this way?" Nathan continued.
"What the Church doesn’t tell you is that Mana contains information, such as lingering emotions, memories from their previous owner or about the spell being cast. Liliana's Divine Power generators remove those information from Mana. They also add a weak hypnosis spell to induce happiness and tranquility, which can be addictive. Bob, when you absorbed Behemoth's Mana earlier, what emotion did you experience?"
This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.
"I felt anger and doubt."
"Right. The reason why you were able to absorb his Mana is because," Nathan wrote on the board.
"1) It was your Mana that destroyed his body, making those leaked Mana resonated and submitted to you.
2) I removed Liliana's Blessing from the three of you and your body started absorbing Mana naturally.
However, there is a downside to absorbing Mana from inflicting injuries or taking lives." Nathan said, pausing to stress the importance of the following statement and looking at each family member in the eye to ensure they understood.
"Let me give you an example. There used to be a demon cult that devised a technique to efficiently absorb Mana from their victims. This method proved to be extremely addictive, leading to the emergence of numerous serial killers within the cult, causing its destruction from the inside." Nathan explained, lamenting the cult by shaking his head.
"Why was it so addictive?" asked Bob.
"Humans strongly synchronize with each other through emotions." Nathan emphasized with a hand gesture. "When they killed and absorbed one another's Mana, it made them felt as though they had dominated another human being, instilling them with a sense of superiority and accomplishment. Therefore, personally, I agree with Liliana. Her Blessings significantly decreased bloodshed to both society and wildlife."
"That's why you cannot absorb Mana from your kills previously."
"Natural Mana Absorption through killing or inflicting injury is extremely inefficient. Generally, only five to ten percent of the Mana released from a victim could be absorbed, give or take. For someone as strong as Bob, leveling up required a significant amount of Mana."
"The Behemoth released a quantity of Mana comparable to half a Saint's. However, one tenth of it was not enough for Bob to level up." Nathan said. "Therefore, I needed another solution."
"I just mentioned the demon cult that was destroyed from the inside by serial killers..." Nathan said.
"Don't tell me..." Tiffany said.
"Yes, I bestowed that cult's blessing upon Bob. I have already removed that blessing, so don't worry." Nathan assured the family.
"After leveling up, am I still not fully healed?" Bob questioned with doubt because he felt totally fine.
"No, you’re not. Even though you feel all better and strong now, in reality you're not healed yet." Nathan answered.
"If the Level Up Blessing can heal all of your injuries, isn’t it too good to be true? Why don't we give everybody the ability to level up?"
Tiffany said, "Right, why not?"
"In short," Nathan paused and took a deep breath before continuing. "If there is a spell that can convert artificial tissues back into Mana, then anyone who overuses the Level Up ritual would be at risk of getting disintegrated."
The family suddenly realized the gravity of the situation, staring at Nathan with wide eyes.
"Do the Disintegration spell or the Death spell exist?" Tiffany asked.
"At the very least, I don't know about them. However, the reason could be because there aren't many Level Up users in the Kingdom, where they are seen as demons. Outside of the Kingdom, they could exist. Moreover, I can create those spells if necessary." Nathan answered.
"Do spells like the Death spell work on us?" Bob asked.
"No, for people who do not have any Mana created artificial tissues, those spells will have no effect." Nathan answered. "But, they can open your wounds, Bob." Nathan answered.
Bob gently touched the scar on his left chest with his right hand, trying to discern the difference between real and artificial tissues. "I can't tell the difference," he thought to himself.
"I am thinking about Mana Absorption." Adrian asked. "I don’t feel much Mana in our vicinity anymore, where did they go?"
"Bob absorbed all of the Behemoth's Mana. I passed Leviathan's Mana on to the three of you. Once you had amassed sufficient Mana for leveling up, I absorbed the rest." Nathan answered.
The family raised their heads and looked at Nathan for a brief moment.
"Are you a serial killer?" Winnie asked.
"No, I am not." Nathan said, but apparently the family was not convinced. So he added. "Not everyone is so alpha that they enjoy dominating other human beings. For me, it pains me to know when someone is sad, scared or in pain..."
"So I never want to hurt anyone," Nathan tried to explain.
"Does absorbing all that Mana make you feel sad?" Winnie asked, her voice filled with concern.
"I almost broke out in tears because Levi was so sad." Nathan lowered his head, his voice tinged with sadness. "It makes me want to help her."
Winnie walked to Nathan and pat on his head. "Don't be sad, you saved us. We are all very happy to have you here."
"Thank you Winnie." Nathan smiled, with a part of him feeling glad that Winnie no longer scorned him.
