hundreds of different faces (B.H Day 97)

There was a tingling that spread throughout Corrina's body as she had driven away from Aduis' house. Her nails felt heavy, and a deep pain had bloomed behind her eyes. The throbbing had gotten so bad that she had to pull into the parking lot of a convenience store.

She knew what this meant, but she didn't want to believe it. "No," she had whispered. "It's too early. Not yet, please." The people that walked past looked at her in confusion. Some even went as far to avoid the terribly parked vehicle. As she pounded against the wheel of her car, she pleaded, "Please. I'm begging you."

As a striking flash of agony rolled over her head, she knew she had her answer. Corrina wiped the base of her hand against her closed eyes. When she pulled them back, a liquid, thin and black greeted her. She felt her lip tremble.

She was moments away from doing something that would most likely get her arrested when her phone rang. Pushing a button on her steering wheel, she answered, "Yes?" She could hear heavy breathing over the line.

"Skiá. We have to do it," Sinthea responded. "You know we can't hold on for long." Corrina had nodded, because what Sinthea said was true. If they were to betray their orders, they wouldn't last long. And it wasn't like she no longer believed in the cause. She just... she didn't want to go yet.

The look on Adius' face came to mind when she said, "Yeah. Tonight. We'll do it tonight. Eleven thirty. Don't wait for me." She hung up her phone and searched for something to clean her hands on. She sat in silence, every important moment that she had ever experienced flashing through her mind.

She saw every hand she ever touched, every smile she'd ever received. She saw thousands of pairs of unique eyes and hundreds of different faces. She was at a loss for words, yet she still found it in herself to send a text to Adius.

She wanted to meet him.

She wanted to say goodbye.

She wanted to warn him.

When he responded with a text that said he would meet her at his neighborhood park in ten minutes, she had already pulled out of her parking spot and shifted into drive.
