Magical Girls? Seriously?

"So, Aaron. How's your brother doing these days?"

A young man with Blonde hair asked his friend who seemed to be in deep thought as he stared blankly outside the window.

Aaron did not respond immediately. He first sipped his coffee before looking at his friend.

"As well as a man with Cancer can be."

He said flatly before taking another sip of his coffee. The coffee of this cafe was his favourite. The freezing atmosphere of winter only made him appreciate the warm drink even more.

"Fair enough. Well I guess we should just be glad it was identified early..."

The blonde gentleman named Julian sighed before slicking his bangs back. He was quite handsome. His friend who was facing him was also above average in looks. But not as handsome as Julian.

"Yeah...No kidding. Any later and I'd have to deal with the annoyance of organizing his funeral..."

The black haired young man, Aaron voiced his thoughts without a hint of worry in his voice.

"Oh, come on man. That's cold. Even for you."

Hearing his friend's usual icy words, Julian chuckled before emptying a pack of sugar into his coffee.

"Maybe. Anyways, what did you even call me here for? I'm hoping it's just to treat me to free coffee."

"Stop dreaming. I only called you to meet-up because if I didn't, we might not have met for a decade. Considering it's you."

"We go to the same school. We're going to meet each other there regardless of whether I want to, or not..."

Aaron said with a bitter expression. He quickly sipped his coffee as if to reinvigorate his body for the coming calamaties.

"Why you...Forget it. Anyways that isn't true, fortunately for you. I'm changing schools next year. So rejoice! You'll be all alone in your high school years."

Julian spread his hands out and smiled mockingly.

"Is that so? Well now that's some rare good news."

Aaron replied nonchalantly as he sipped his coffee with a satisfied expression. He really didn't seem to be bothered by the news

"Wait, wasn't this supposed to be the moment where you get surprised and beg me to not leave you or something?"

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Julian seemed flabbergasted. He knew his friend was cold. But wasn't this too cold?

"You really think I'd do that...?"

However, Aaron looked repulsed from even imagining such a scene. So actually doing it was probably a tall order.

"Guess not..."

Julian sighed as he poured another pack of sugar into his coffee. This was his 3rd pack. The waiter who noticed this from far-away frowned at the sight. While Aaron looked at his friend with disappointment in his eyes.

This wasn't the first time he had seen his friend ruin a cup of coffee with too much sugar. But then again Julian always seemed to enjoy it this sweet. So to each their own, or so Aaron thought.

"So? Is that the reason you called me here? If it is, you better pay my coffee to make this worthwhile..."

Casting aside his inner complaints about ruining perfectly good coffee, Aaron smiled at his friend menacingly. His red-eyes made it seem like he was looking at his sword enemy, rather than a friend.

"Cool your jets, man. That was only one of the many reasons I asked for you. You've already heard the one before that so that leaves me with the last one..."

"Which is?"

Aaron sipped his coffee for the last time which had regrettably been finished. He wished he had savoured it some more instead of listening to his friend's meaningless questions.

"What do you think of the magical-girls issue?"

"...Hah?"

For the first time Aaron looked flabbergasted. Never before had he shown his friend such an expression.

"I'm serious. This is important to me."

"Ugh... seriously?"

Aaron looked at his friend in disbelief. He hadn't expected his friend's last question which appeared to be the one that he seemed to value the most to be such a ridiculous one.

"Yes. Seriously. You know what's going on, right? You might have never been interested in them, but now that the issue regarding them has reached newspapers and television you should know what I'm talking about it."

Julian spoke in a serious tone. It almost seemed like he was making an important discussion regarding his own life...when the reality was that he was just discussing a matter regarding...magical girls.

But Aaron decided to answer seriously. He knew about what Julian was talking about. And it seemed his friend seemed to value his answer greatly. Although, Aaron has never been one to think much of his friendship with Julian, sometimes he just felt it would be good to show a bit of consideration. Julian did help him out a number of times in the past.

"As usual I don't really think much of them. But it's pretty obvious that unless something interesting happens that requires their assistance again, the civilians will start doubting their worth."

Aaron said as he thought of the numerous possibilities of the fate that awaits magical girls if things continued as they are.

"At best, they'll be forgotten and be seen as a pleasant memory of the past. At worst, people will get fearful about letting individuals who possess strange powers to run amok without restrictions. Which would also justify the government's inevitable interest in capturing the girls…since they wouldn't like to let a power like that loose without having some form of control over it. Or so I think. Though I do think the possibility of the latter is somewhat low since it seems a bit extreme. And they're supernatural beings with mysterious powers so anyone would think twice before making an enemy out of them. But who knows maybe the officials will try and put a collar on them anyways."

Aaron answered calmly. He had voiced his honest thoughts.

"As usual you say the most disturbing things with a straight face."

Julian smiled bitterly. For a Magical-girl fanatic like him Aaron’s words cut deep.

"But thank you. I'm glad you answered me seriously."

Even so Julian smiled at his friend with gratitude. He had asked for his friend’s honest opinion after all.

"Sure. Just don't call me over for every little thing. Even if we don't go to the same school in the future, we can just talk over the phone. Or you know...talk in the game."

"Right, right. You can go now. I'm sure you don't want me to keep you here any longer."

"Yep. You can be sure about that."

Aaron replied before getting off his seat and walking away. But before leaving he gave his friend one last look.

"Well, see ya then."

"Yeah. Goodbye, Aaron."

Julian bade his friend farewell without noticing his friend's lips curve upwards. The young man was in deep thought after all. Finally he finally sip his coffee which had gone cold a while ago.

But it was only after he finished the drink that he noticed something he had failed to a few minutes ago.

"Wait, that jerk left without paying his end of the bill!"
