Adam is a nineteen-year-old boy who loves video games to a point it affected his life and studies. He neglected everything around him, using the games as a source of escape from his failing life, he's on brick of failing and getting kicked out of college. He doesn't have friends. His only companions are his keyboards and monitors. He was happy, at least he was happy when the bright lights got turned on, making his problems disappear, like the light making the darkness vanish. His family are suspecting that he has been goofing off, and they are coming over to see him this week, which sent him to panic. His room was a wreck, and it was going to take a lot of effort to clean it. He hasn't left it for the past two months [type of mess]. He was angry with his family and himself, occasionally he would stare out the window and look at ongoing students going to college, and every so often he would imagine himself as one of them, he wondered how his life would be if he actually focused on his studies. He was a lot of things (mess) but there was one thing he was proud of that he was physically fit,. That's the only thing he takes pride in and maybe his record holder in the games he played. He was tired, procrastinating the cleaning job for almost a week now his parents are coming tomorrow, it's noon, and he hasn't cleaned a single thing. Slapping his cheeks, he stood up and got to work,. It was easier than he thought. He was halfway done when he hit an empty can of soda which fell onto the sockets of wires, he was glad that the can was empty, but it wasn't empty. The content inside spilled to the wires and let out a bright spark which covered the entire room. Adam screamed at the top of his lungs and closed his eyes. Everything was quiet, and he slowly opened his eyes and found out his was covered in darkness. He thought he was dead. Then there was a flashed of lights and seven other people appeared next to him feeling the same thing he was feeling, confused and shocked.

“ Umm, where am I? “  A voice said 

Another one screamed," helpp!!” 

They were confused and terrified, so was Adam.

Then a voice which had some sort of authority in it echoed in the dark hall or whatever it was.

“KEEP CALM” 

The hall fell silent, they stared in the direction of the voice, so did Adam. 

“ You are wondering why you appeared here...... Each of you are dead or experienced a near death event, before your soul fell to the void, I saved you”

A voice from the crowd spoke up" do you mean we are dead?”

The voice above replied” partially, but I saved your soul. It's up to you to save your body" 

It seems the crowd have taken a hold of the situation. 

“ What do we do to save our body because I remember getting hit by a truck it was terrifying” he said, shivering.

The voice answered, " good question. You all get to chose what power you get from the ones listed above” a screen appeared above them illuminating the hall. 

The list 

Speed

Flight

Super strength

Laser eyes

heat breathes

Freeze breathes. 

“ Which power you chose will keep you save” a voice replied

“Save from what” the voice above replied "you don't you worry, you'll find out very soon ..... And then you have twenty seconds to choose a power,. If you fail to do so, your soul will fall back to the void and then into nothingness” immediately after his voice stopped, a giant timer appeared counting from twenty down to zero. Panic spread out across the hall. Everybody was rushing to the screen to pick a power, so did Adam, they were pushing and shoving. Some people fell and got trampled on, Adam was glad that he was physically fit. He pushed his way to the front and standing next to the screen, before he could pick (the obvious answer, which was super strength) someone shoved him from behind, and he hit his face on the speed button. The timer hit zero and people started screaming. The ones who didn't get the chance to touch the button, they were melting falling to the void and finally disappeared.

The ones remaining were just seven, including Adam.

They waited, and the voice spoke

" Congratulations you've passed the first test welcome to the flipside try to stay alive. 

Adam was feeling a lot of things, but happiness was the prime feeling he got. It's exactly like a video game though he was sad that he didn't get to pick the power he wanted, but he was still happy he's never going to clean that room!
