FLAMES OF DESTINY
The Awakening

The Awakening

Richard's dreams were unlike anything he'd ever experienced. They didn’t feel like dreams at all; they felt like memories. Night after night, he saw visions of a land shrouded in mist, where icy waters met frozen peaks. A voice—deep, ancient, and commanding—echoed in his mind, calling his name. "Richard... Richard... come to me. Find me. Free me."

He would wake drenched in sweat, heart pounding, the dragon's voice still ringing in his ears. Yet each morning, he brushed it aside as merely the remnants of an overactive imagination. That is, until the day the visions bled into reality.

It happened in the markets. Richard was standing beside his uncle, who was busy bartering with a merchant over the price of iron. The midday sun beat down on the crowded square, and the clatter of voices and footsteps filled the air. Richard's head began to spin. His vision blurred. And then, everything stopped.

The world around him fell silent.

His eyes rolled back, turning white as snow. His body froze in place, and the market seemed to vanish, replaced by a swirling vortex of light and shadow. In the vision, he stood before a dark, foreboding forest. The trees loomed like specters, their twisted branches clawing at the sky. A voice thundered in his mind, the same voice from his dreams. "The Fallen Forest awaits you, Richard. Your destiny begins now. Do not delay. Come to me before it is too late."

When he snapped back to reality, a small crowd had gathered around him, their faces etched with concern and fear. His uncle shook him by the shoulders, asking if he was all right. Richard stammered an apology, his heart racing. He didn’t tell anyone what he had seen. He couldn’t. The dragon’s voice still echoed in his mind.

That night, under the cover of darkness, he packed a small bag and set out toward the Fallen Forest. He didn’t know what awaited him there, but something deep within him—something ancient—urged him onward. The dragon was calling, and he had no choice but to answer.
