The sound of sirens and gunshots could be heard as footsteps were stampeding through the entire building. Gilly stood just looking up at the cloud. By now she had not noticed that they had been surrounded once more by people in black holding guns pointing at them. Uyi and Fed had already taken a fighting stance.
Glowing tattoos appeared on Fed Skin. He stomped his feet on the floor, and flames shot out of the ground, forming a barrier around them. He dashed forward as he called out to Uyi.
“Uyi.. now”
Following his call, he dashed forward through the flame at a speed that made him blur to the human eye. He had a piece of metal in hand that had a sharp end, looking like one of the debris that had fallen off the building. With it, he swiftly danced around the entire scene, avoiding lethal shots while slicing through the flesh of all the men he came across. His movement and brutality were akin to a demon dancing in a rainy day.
This slaughter continued for minutes. Sara's eyes were gradually opening. At the audible sound, she looked, noticing a chopper sniper on the chopper above. She felt miserable and was still trying to avoid the thought of Ami being dead.
A red beaming pointer was trailing Uyi and Fed, waiting to take them down at any time. Sara's eyes widen seeing the pointer, Larry not being able to do anything because he was not a fighter was frozen to the spot. Gilly stood just looking into the night sky, not minding her surroundings.
Sara screamed Seeing Uyi and Fed being overwhelmed by numbers as they began to struggle against their foes. Uyi was still resilient, fighting off the enemy, not minding the bullets that went through his body. The clouds began to swirl around the crater as arcs of lightning sparked like fireflies in the dark. Sara's self-denial pushed her into a dire state as her hair began to dance with the wind, with blue arcs of electricity now visible on her hair and skin.
From above, the chopper sent out a warning, but the voice was drowned by the thunder rumbling from within the whirlpool in the sky. A bright flash that was pale blue fell on the chopper in quick succession, followed by a thunderclap. The recoil made the building shake as all drops of rain and puddles of water on the floor were boiled away. As rubble fell, the rain seemed like it stopped falling.
When the commotion died down. The Chopper had been vaporized along with some parts of the building. Similarly, Uyi stood on top of a pile of dead bodies drenched in sweat and blood, steam rising from his body. Sara looked in awe as she fell on the floor once more, completely drained. She had gauged his strength, but seeing it firsthand was spectacular.
He had to fight for his life from a young age, and that had built him into the perfect killing machine. Fed was breathing heavily; his flame power was a two-edged sword that could kill him if used for too long. Larry stood in a daze. He never believed in what Sara and Uyi were always trying to look strong. He realized that they did not merely act but were like that.
Gilly paid no mind to the crew, still just looking up to the sky as it rained down once small. Uyi fell on one knee from exhaustion, with Fed not being in better shape than him. His clothes were partly charred, and he was steaming as the rain fell on his skin, cooling him gradually. This was the main reason why he had no hair on his body.
The remaining guard ran off in fear. As the retreat continued, shots were fired from the direction they ran towards. They fell like flies one after another till there was none left standing. A clap proceeded from that same direction as a man with gray hair dressed in a suit led an entire army of military troopers into the scene.
This was someone who Sara knew. But she had no idea why he was still alive. During the last confrontation, she had seen him beheaded before she was taken captive by the shadow unit. It was as if it were all a dream as her uncle stood before her. Uyi and Fed were still on guard, not knowing if this was an enemy or a foe.
"Hmm, I see this bunch is not that bad.”
He rubbed his jaw as he raised his left hand. A woman in a lab coat emerged from within the army; she had a white fox following her and a tablet in hand.
‘Group this folks together, make sure they are in the same team and also give them some proper clothing; its kind of cold.’
….
“Who are you?”
Uyi posed the question, struggling to stand up. The woman with the fox approached, with Fed and Uyi taking a fighting stance once more. But before Uyi could move, he fell down and passed out. His friends cried out to him in worry. With Sara crawling toward him. The lab coat woman approached him, checking his pulse.
‘His fine, he is just exhausted.”
Gilly, who was dazed, finally looked around and noticed the change in people once more. She met the gaze of the woman in lab coat, and she muttered.
“Rosalia..”
Her eyes widen as an unexpected person calls her name. She shook her head as she looked back at the old man in suit. They both sighed as they once more gazed upon Gilly. The sudden call of name made Sara turn to Gilly; even Fed and Larry were surprised.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
“She knows Aunt Rosalia.”
Sara once more looked at Gilly; she moved her head, turning to the old man. His eyes suddenly became cold trying to gauge Gilly. He knew most children had powers, and some are so unique that it is impossible to understand their principle of operation and how it affects the world around them.
“old man Robert”
She called out once more. At this point, Sara had to guess it right. Gilly was a part of their initial plan, but it had to change when her parents died and she had gone missing. The old man did not for one second look away.
With her friend now noticing her hair color had turned black and her pupils were brown from their usual pale blue color.
“Hmm. I did not think you would survive, Gilly the. I guess your title, Mavet Noir, is not for show.”
Rosalia’s voice was icy cold. The military men went forward to help Sara and the rest out of the building, leaving only Gilly, Rosalia, and the old man behind. Sara wanted to protest, but she was out of strength. She had no idea what Gilly had done to make her uncle and cousin ice cold to her. The rest just hoped for the best. No one knew Gilly’s power, so they hoped she would be fine.
….…
When it was just the three, Gilly began to laugh, which echoed throughout the building with her hand on her face. Rosalia was already prepared as she brought out a long wip, with the old man bringing out a glowing sword. A physical pressure filled the air, making movement hard for both of them.
“Gilly, don’t try anything stupid.”
Rosalia warned. Gilly looked at her with her pupil and hair now light blue again. She vanished, appearing before Rosalia, floating mid-air with their faces just inches apart. She had a wicked smile on her face as she looked at Rosalia in the eyes. This speed made Rosalia frozen to the spot in fear. The fox was growling behind her but could not make a move because it was equally scared as the pressure affected it to.
“Even Furi is scared; this child has to be a monster.
Her train of thought was stopped when Gilly spoke up. Her body felt like Gilly was scanning her, and all her secrets were no longer hidden to the child before her. She felt a little out of control trying to move her body. After a minute, Gilly spoke up.
“Seems you don’t know anything, so I will let you go.”
Her words sounded childish but also devilish at the same time. She turned and chuckled, looking at Robert, her face looking twisted.
“But you're not innocent.”
She dashed forward, Aming, to hit Robert, who was ready with his sword in front. Before she could reach him, a blurred-out figure rushed out, hugging her midair while carrying her off in an opposite direction. As they landed, it was visible. He held on to Gilly tightly as he spoke softly in her ear. Imitating what Lora used to do, he spoke.
“It’s alright, we promised no more hate, ok?”
She paused wanting to struggle, but her body betrayed her as she nodded; her hair and eye color went back to black as she quietly fell asleep in his arms. He turned and glared back at the two holding Gilly in his arms.
“If this is how you treat a child, then your no different from them.”
Robert walked forward with the sweat still visible on his face.
“Do you know this child's history?”
He looked at Uyi, wondering what kind of class his power falls under. He looked like he had fully recovered from the bullet wound. He strolled forward, rubbing his jaw. Now he towered above the two, looking at Gilly with a bit of interest.
"Well, I guess your right; this is no way to treat a child. But I will ask you a question. Do you know what the numbers are?”
Uyi turned, looking at Rosalia as if wanting an explanation. Rosalia sighed, sitting on top of her fox. She looked at her tablet and began to explain things.
Number were the way classification of power that the spawn causes in children gene. The spawn was a concept, or, as some people will classify a parasite or a virus that invades the human body. It can only be observed within the human body, and once outside, the body becomes invincible to any kind of observation.
The relationship of the spawn causing death is why the population of humans has fallen by forty-five percent. That’s why most people choose to live in the orbit of the earth. The spawn has also been associated with why children develop unusual abilities like flight. The only issue is how this happens is still unknown to them.
The Powers have ten categories, one to ten. The higher you go up the scale to one, the more lethal the power becomes. Nicholas is an example of a level one power and the reason why we were able to build the orbit so soon due to his understanding of how gravity works. Another example is Casandra, who has the ability to heal any kind of injury.
But there is a catch: not every ability can be understood, some more mysterious than the last. Like you, a level four who has already mastered his ability. Uyi was still eyes on Rosalia, looking for any hint of her lying.
Sara is at level two, and she is still struggling to grasp her ability before she went missing. But for everything, there are always exceptions. Class zero. The people who are put in this class defy everything of science and logic, and their abilities can’t be explained.
“You remember Lora, right?”
Uyi’s face darkened as he looked at Robert once more, who was still observing Gilly.
“What do you know about her?”
Rosalia smiled. She explained that they found records of her whereabouts. When we arrived, she scanned through the record, and it was stated that she died a few hours ago. She also knew she was in the same confinement with you. But when they checked for her body on arrival, she was not there.
Lora had the power of projection. She had the power to move her consciousness into objects and even into other people. She is a Class Zero. Another piece of information that she had obtained within the system was Ami and Fed.
Fed was equally a class two like Sara, but his control was even worse than Sara’s. But Ami was also a class zero, and from what we have studied, Class zeros are hard to kill, with some having records of surviving a nuclear disaster
Uyi’s expression further darkened. He had read this when he snuck around the lab, but he found it hard to swallow. To think they had two class Zero in their midst, his thought was caught short by Robert chipping in.
“we don’t have time.
Rosalia smiled. She rarely got the chance to talk about her research, but now that she had the chance, there was no time. She coughed as she stood up while she continued the explanation.
“You see, Class Zero needs watch, but... Gilly cannot be classified because we don’t even know the full extent of her ability, and since we can’t control her, we can only confine her or kill her.”
The statement made Uyi jump back a few meters, keeping his distance from the two. Robert looked once more before turning back. He knew his niece was not someone to kill; to talk more of killing a child was against her principle.
“Rosalia I know you don’t want to do this. The only condition I can let that happen is if you can seal her powers.”
Rosalia was troubled by this statement. Sealing of powers is a dangerous process, and if there was a mistake, it could spell doom for the people who were doing the sealing process. He looked back and smiled, not also wanting to take that route. He spoke once more.
“Or he can take responsibility for the girl, making sure no one finds out about her power. In a nutshell, if you agree from today, you will become her brother or something of that nature.”
The statement made Rosalia breathe a sigh of relief. Uyi without hesitation nodded. With that cleared, Uyi proceeded with Gilly to meet the others. Leaving the two behind. Robert turned back to Rosalia.
“Rosalia, we still have two missing. Make sure to track them as soon as possible. We don’t want the federation to get hands on the good produce. They are as important as Nicholas and Casandra.”
She bowed and smiled. They have successfully recruited a class zero. Sending in his niece was not a bad idea after all. This was a game of war, and they had to play every card possible to be on the winning side.
