Fire on the Edge
The stranger at the gate

The stranger at the gate

A single man approached the kingdom walls, his clothes were ragged, and armor was strewn about his body. He was limping and looked as if he had been thrown into a tornado and had come out the other side doused in fire. As he came into view, he waved his hands to signal the guards that he needed help, and then he collapsed.

The drawbridge drops as two guards from the tower rush out to the man who had just collapsed to load him up onto a stretcher. The guards rushed the man into the kingdom walls on the stretcher, and ran across the town, their armor clanking against itself, making quite a racket, while shouting “Injured man! We require assistance!”. They made it 20 feet into the town before a young lady came running out of a house. She said, “If you require assistance then let me be of help.” The guards exchanged glances before rushing him into the young maiden's house. They darted to a bed in the corner of the room and laid down the man on it.

Soon after, a healer rushes in, with his kit in hand, and, before long spots the man on the bed in the corner, and darts in his direction. He unstraps his armor, carefully laying it down on the floor next to him. He signals the people in the room to exit. As soon as the people filed out, the air turned bitter cold as blinding bright light started flashing from the window of the house, bathing the townsfolk in brilliant, vivid, light, whose intensity matched, if not even rivaled that of the suns.

In time, the healer walked out, kit in hand and addressed the guards and the crowd of people surrounding the cabin, “He wishes to speak to the king”.
