Chapter 3: Medan at war

Chapter 3: Medan at war

"Oh god..." Amirul said as he saw the view. In front of them, they saw Medan in flames. All across the big city, flames and smoke pollute the air. Screams could be heard from far. Some were calling for help, some were just scream of people dying.

"Wha... why?!" Amirul was enraged. This is a populated area, not a military base! Why is the empire attacking this place?!

"..." Hakeem who was in front of him stood in silence, he looked across the city in flames as if evaluating the situation. He was used such a scene, he saw Warsaw, Hong Kong and Berlin in the same situations before.

"I think there might be an underground resistance here..." Hakeem spoke his thoughts.

"An undergrou- THEY MADE ONE IN A CIVILLIAN AREA?!" Amirul yelled towards Hakeem. It was unfathomable for him, to put innocent people at risk.

Amirul and Hakeem moved towards the city but as they got near they saw a more disturbing scene. The empirial loyalist had surrounded the city, they've set up a parameter all across the borders of the city. Installed turrents and mounted machine guns on all the posts.

Everytime a civillian or an armed person came into view, the empirial loyalist would open fire upon them. It didn't even matter to them that they were shooting children, elderly and women. All of them fell as soon as they came into their view. It was practically a slaughterhouse, but with humans on the hook.

"They- THOSE BASTARDS!" Amirul wanted to run towards the emperial loyalist. But as soon he went past Hakeem, he tripped.

"Don't be hasty, you'll die in vain." Hakeem said not even looking at Amirul.

"But- But- They're killing innocent people."

"Yeah, I noticed. We need a plan, there must be a way for us to open them a way out." Hakeem was brainstorming for an idea. Looking at the defense line, he noticed something perculiar.

"Hey, that place over there." Hakeem pointed towards one of the many posts that surrounded Medan. "That place is one of the most isolated posts around the area. If we were to somehow able to take out that one and the ones near it, we would be able to open up an escape corridor." It was a plausible plan. But it required something they lacked.

"We're only two. How are we supposed to do that!" Amirul looked towards Hakeem looking for an answer. But what he got was silence.

"Shit! Shit! Shit!" As he already kneeling on the ground, all he could do was hit the ground.

----------------------------------------

They were currently sitting under a tree. Hakeem was silently sniping lone empirial soldiers that wandered too far from their groups. While all Amirul could do was hang his head down depressingly.

"Hey, Amirul..." Hakeem who was sniping lone soldiers suddenly stops shooting and turned to Amirul.

"What?" Amirul looked slightly upwards to Hakeem.

"You're an Indonesian Malay right?" Hakeem asked Amirul.

"Yes, how did yo-" Amirul was about to ask but Hakeem interrupted him.

"Go towards the surround the surrounding villages and small cities. Gather up any men you can and bring them here! I'll get everything set up." Hakeem got up and started to run to one of the small bunkers farther away from Medan filled with supplies.

"Hey, wait! Are you planning to attack them?! A battle would just be another slaughter!" Amirul also got up and tried to questioned Hakeem but he had already started running.

Hakeem who was already almost out of the tree lines turned around and screamed towards Amirul.

"Nicht eine Schlacht, eine Rettungsaktion!"
