Katsuki got into position for the first event, the 50m dash on the blocks.
His competitor was some frog girl.
After a moment, the measuring robot started calling out.
"On your mark…get set…Go!"
in a moment, Katsuki was off, the frog girl next to him leaping ahead momentarily, but he managed to pass her up during her landing. In the end they both crossed the line at about the same time, with Katsuki barely pulling ahead.
"5.49 seconds, 5.63 seconds."
Everyone else seemed to do the tasks fairly well, though Izuku seemed to be panicking for a bit until he had an idea just before his test.
Breathing out a bit of fire, Izuku wrapped wristbands of fire around his arms then pumped as hard as he could during the test, the fire seeming to pull him forwards slightly faster. The machine called out his time.
"6.48 seconds."
Moving on to the second event, Aizawa passed out a couple grip strength tests.
Grabbing one of them in a hand, Katsuki squeezed it as hard as he could.
"120 kgs."
He noted the octopus kid managed a full 540kg as some of the other students praised him.
As Katsuki was getting ready for the next even, Kirishima walked over.
"Hey dude! You're killing it in these tests! By the way, I didn't show you my quirk earlier. It lets me harden my body, like this!"
Kirishima's skin on his arm suddenly got rocky and angular.
"Looks pretty useful. Defense is important to hero work after all."
"Thanks! What's your quirk?"
Katsuki focused on getting ready for the standing long jump as he answered, stretching out his legs more.
"I don't have one."
"You mean you're quirkless?!"
Kirishima exclaimed rather loudly, drawing attention from the other students.
"Wait, he's actually legit quirkless?"
"How did he ever manage to pass the entrance exam?"
"I thought he just had a strength boosting quirk."
Ignoring the whispers around him, Katsuki focused back on Kirishima whose eyes were tearing up.
"You passed the entrance exam without a quirk? That's so manly dude!"
Katsuki stopped for a second at Kirishima's encouragement, sizing him up. There was no real reason to suck up to him at this point.
"Thanks."
Kirishima kept going though.
"Your workout routine must be nuts. What gym do you go to?"
Katsuki processed that for a second, then paused. Kirishima seemed like he was being genuine about this.
It was the first time one of his classmates had actually supported his dream to be a hero since his diagnosis 11 years ago.
Before Katsuki could could come to terms with that revelation, his name was called for the long jump.
Moving up to the line, Katsuki got into a jumping posture. He would try to sort out his feelings later. It was test time now.
At the whistle, he jumped as hard as he could, making sure to avoid falling backwards.
"9.27 Meters."
Standing up, he brushed his hands off on his tracksuit.
Next up was the side to side hops. Not exactly Katsuki's specialty, but he was decent at it, managing 51, though the lack of good grip in the dirt really killed his score.
After that came the ball throw.
When Mitsuki had given Katsuki the baseball bat, he'd figured that it would be worth it to practice his throwing technique a bit.
Today didn't really have any wind, so a 45 degree angle would probably be best.
Winding up within the circle, Katsuki let the ball fly as hard as he could, throwing it down the field following an infinity throw from a gravity girl in the class.
After a bit, Aizawa displayed his score, announcing it to the class.
"188 Meters."
Kirishima was the first to talk to Katsuki after he returned to the other students.
"That throw was so manly bro!"
Katsuki awkwardly brushed off the compliment, saying he'd had a lot of training for it as the others moved to make their own throws.
The next couple events were fairly standard.
Seated toe touch went decently, though Katsuki could admit that flexibility wasn't something he'd been training much.
Pushups had also gone very well, though Kirishima seemed to take his performance as a challenge, trying to match his pushups. He didn't manage it, but that only seemed to fire him up more.
Final event was the endurance run.
The moment the run began, Katsuki set himself a punishing pace.
This was the last event of the test, so Katsuki didn't see a need to keep anything in the tank for after.
Aside for the obvious leader in Iida, his engine legs carrying him forwards, most of the other students fell behind fairly quickly.
Frog girl tried to keep up for a bit, but her endurance just wasn't up to par.
Then, about a minute into the run, Katsuki heard the sound of an engine from behind him.
A moment later Katsuki was passed by a taller girl with luxurious black hair riding a motorized scooter she'd somehow pulled out of her torso.
Refusing to let her take the lead so close to the finish line, Katsuki stepped up his pace, moving into a flat-out sprint.
After a moment, the girl looked over, surprised to see Katsuki keeping pace.
Pushing himself to his limits, Katsuki kept pace, trying to overtake the scooter as they closed on the finish line.
Finally, just as they reached the line, Katsuki managed to pull ahead just barely.
Stolen novel; please report.
Gasping as he slowed from his full sprint, Katsuki put his hands on his knees.
After a few seconds he straightened up, controlling his breathing.
He looked up to see the girl on the scooter walking over.
"Your performance during the run was very impressive."
She extended a hand to Katsuki.
"My name is Yaoyorozu Momo. It's nice to meet you."
Katsuki shook, his hands still dripping with sweat.
"Bakugou Katsuki. Same."
Momo smiled as she shook Katsuki's hand.
"Your performance during the distance run was incredibly impressive. Do you have a personal trainer for your fitness?"
Katsuki pulled up his Jacket up to wipe his face, feeling a bit off-put by how bright she was acting for someone that just got beaten in the run.
"I self train a lot. You're gonna need to get faster to keep up with me, but the scooter was a really neat trick."
"You think so?!"
Katsuki could see her face light up as he complimented her performance.
"It took me a bit to make it, and I had to make a simpler model to ensure I finished faster. But I'm still really glad I got all of the components correct even while I was rushing!"
Katsuki started fidgeting and scratching his cheek as he looked away towards the other classmates still running.
Everyone else was still a while away from finishing.
Turning back to the excited girl, Katsuki awkwardly tried to keep the conversation going.
Everyone here was just being so genuine about this stuff.
"You've been doing really well on the tests so far."
"You think so?"
Momo responded, a blush on her cheeks.
"Definitely. Can you really make anything with your quirk?"
"My quirk is called Creation. It lets me generate objects from my body. I do need to memorize the structure of the object down to the molecular level however."
Katsuki imagined that for the moment.
"Wow. That's impressive."
"Thank you!"
"Where do you get the material from?"
Momo blushed a bit, tapping her fingers together as she answered.
"I convert the material from my body fat. It means I need to keep track of my calorie intake and meals in general."
"I do the same for my own training. Well, my dad does too. He keeps making these weird nutritious 'experiments' that he serves for dinner."
"He does it all himself? No recipe or anything?"
"Nope, just makes stuff up. Sometimes makes me throw up. What about you?"
"Oh, I had my personal trainer and family chef help out. They designed a meal plan specifically with my needs in mind. It lets me push my quirk farther without risking any health issues."
"Is that something that happens if you overdo it?"
Momo shook her head, the smile still on her features but dimmer.
"Only if I go too far, but it's good to have the certainty."
Katsuki nodded at that.
As they kept talking, Katsuki noted the rest of the class starting to trickle over the line.
A moment later, Aizawa called out.
"Everyone gather up. Time for the results."
Katsuki read through the results.
He'd managed a decent 5th place in the rankings, Momo managing an amazing 1st place.
Looking over at the girl, he found her smiling at her performance.
Still looking over the scores, Katsuki noted that Izuku had come in 16th.
In last place was a 'Mineta Minoru'.
Judging from the cry of grief from the midget near the front, Katsuki had a good idea who that was.
Aizawa walked up to the midget.
"Mineta. You came in last. Your stature explains some of that, but in the real world people don't care how tall you are."
"B-But sir-"
"I expect you to improve as the year goes on."
"HUUH!?"
The class exclaimed in shock as another sinister grin grew on Aizawa's face.
"Nobody is getting expelled today. It was a rational deception to bring out everyone's full potential."
Many of the students heaved a sigh of relief at the news.
Momo spoke up "I thought that was the case. It seemed unlikely that a teacher would expel a student on the first day of classes."
Aizawa ignored Momo's remark as he continued.
"In any case, we're done here. Your documents about the curriculum and such are on your desks back in the classroom. Give them a look when you get the chance. Today is a short day, so make sure to rest up for the trials of tomorrow."
At that, the teacher walked away, leaving the dumbstruck class behind as he walked towards the main building.
Moving towards the locker room with the other students, Katsuki started getting changed back into his school uniform.
After he took his shirt off, the dude with the lightning bolt powers exclaimed, more relaxed now.
"Woah dude, you're jacked!"
All eyes in the changeroom turned to look at Katsuki.
Katsuki froze for a second before he continued getting changed.
'They're just impressed, not trying to start a fight.'
Kirishima was the next to speak up.
"That's so manly bro! I knew you were super strong, but you look chiseled out of stone!"
Katsuki turns to Kirishima, feeling like he was starting to get a better handle on the class' character.
"Says the dude with the hardening quirk."
Kirishima laughed off the comment as he kept getting changed as well.
The lightning bolt dude walked up and introduced himself, extending a hand to shake.
"Kaminari Denki. You killed it out there on those tests man. Look forward to working with you."
Katsuki inspected the hand for a second, before extending his own.
"Bakugou Katsuki. Thanks."
Moving back to the classroom, everyone picked up their orientation packages and got ready to leave.
As they left the classroom, Katsuki gave his mom a call.
'Yeah brat? First day go well?'
"Yeah it went pretty well. It's a short day, but I'm gonna check out the training gyms. I'll be home for dinner."
'Got it. See you then.'
Putting his phone away Katsuki started moving through the campus looking for the gyms.
Training at least, would put Katsuki back on familiar ground.
After a few minutes of searching, he finally managed to find the gym.
Heading inside, Katsuki noticed that someone else was already there.
As he walked in, a Blue-haired girl who had been running on a treadmill stepped off and walked over, a massive smile on her face. She didn't look like she had broken a sweat.
"Oh? Are you one of my new kohais?"
Before Katsuki could even answer, the girl just kept talking.
"If you're my Kohai, that makes me your senpai. So feel free to ask me if you have any questions. Hey! Since you're here you want to use the gym right? Did you know that UA has some of the best training facilities on the entire country? Anyway, I can help teach you all the different equipment while you're here!"
Without getting a word in edgewise, the girl grabbed Katsuki's hand and started pulling him towards the equipment.
"My name's Hado Nejire, kohai! I look forward to working with you!"
After getting shown around the gym by the whirlwind that was Nejire, Katsuki finally got a chance to work out.
Hopping onto one of the treadmills, Katsuki saw Nejire take up the one next to him.
"So what's so special about these things then?"
"So these aren't your standard treadmills. They're actually rated for use with speed quirks. This means they can go way faster then civilian grade versions. Now, I'm gonna get back to my run. I've been at this for a long time, don't worry if you can't keep up."
Katsuki only had one response to that.
"Fuck that! I'm gonna beat you!"
Rather then being upset at his language, Nejire smiled at Katsuki's outburst, an almost visible glint entering her eyes.
"Oh? Lets do it then! Plus Ultra!"
"And when I win, you stop calling me kohai and start calling me by my name!"
"But kohai is cute though…"
Nejire pouted before she continued, starting up her treadmill.
"Okay. But if I win, you tell me more about yourself."
"Deal."
And then they both were off, Nejire raising the speed of her Treadmill, and Katsuki matching her every step of the way.
Finally they reached a speed Nejire seemed used to.
"This it? I've run faster than this in my sleep!"
"Wow, you're really fast Kohai! Now we're just gonna keep running for about the next hour or so."
Katsuki almost tripped when he heard heard her say hour, then recovered.
"An hour? Screw that, I'll last for an hour and a half!"
"That's the spirit kohai!"
At around the 50 minute mark, Katsuki felt his legs burning with each step.
Looking over, he saw Nejire looking just the same as she had at the start of the run, with a bit more sweat beading her face.
Noticing him looking over, Nejire smiled back as she kept running.
"You're doing great kohai!"
Katsuki growled at the nickname as he kept running. He was gonna force her to call him by name!
An hour and a half after starting, Katsuki was visibly panting while Nejire seemed barely winded.
At the 2 hour mark, Katsuki's legs were on fire keeping up the pace and Nejire was starting to struggle as well finally.
At the 2 hour 13 minute mark, Katsuki had stopped glancing over, focused entirely on keeping up the pace.
Finally at the 2 hour 21 minute mark, Katsuki's legs gave out and he heard both treadmills shut of at almost exactly the same time.
Panting on his hands and knees, Katsuki looked over to see Nejire also panting, but leaning up against the edge of her treadmill, legs wobbly and gasping, but a huge smile still on her face.
"That, was, really impressive, Kohai."
Katsuki pulled himself up to his feet, using the treadmill as a grip, then leaning on it.
"Fuck, you. I, totally, won."
The two of them just stayed there for a bit, resting as they caught their breath.
Finally, Katsuki grabbed his water and started drinking. Letting out a sigh as he finished a sip.
"Bakugou Katsuki. Class 1A, Hero Course. Quirkless."
The smile on Nejires face only seemed to get bigger at Katsuki's words.
"That was, really impressive kohai. We should, do this again."
Katsuki smirked to match Nejire's smile.
"I'm gonna keep, competing till I beat you. How often do you come to the gym?"
"Every day after class, for at least an hour. My class had a free period today so I came earlier!"
"See you then."
Katsuki started limping his way towards the showers.
Katsuki walked towards the front door of his house, the soreness in his legs starting to fade after he'd had a hot shower and walk.
He hadn't pushed himself that hard in forever.
A smile grew on his face as he thought back to the competition in the gym.
Opening the door, he called out.
"I'm home hag!"
Mitsuki stepped out of the kitchen with a smile on her face.
"You get some good training done today brat?"
Katsuki frowned.
"Got some training done, but lost an endurance match to some girl from an upper year."
Mitsuki smile seemed to only get bigger at the news, a teasing lilt entering her voice.
"A girl huh? Did you take it easy on her?"
Katsuki's frown turned into a scowl.
"Bullshit. She's just really fucking good."
Mitsuki's smile turned into a full smirk at Katsuki's reply.
"Dad will have the food ready in a couple minutes. You should head upstairs and get changed."
