Change of pace

Jon Arryn

He had always been aware of the fragility of the realm. But he never imagined that he would one day have to face the destruction of the capital itself.

As he stood on the battlements of the Red Keep, watching the flames engulf King's Landing, Jon felt a sense of despair wash over him. The rebellion had been won, but at what cost? Now, the city was burning, and with it, the symbol of the power of the Iron Throne.

He turned to Robert Baratheon, the king who had led the rebellion, and saw the grief etched on his face.

"Robert," he called quietly. "We must begin to consider the next steps. The city is lost, but the realm must go on."

Robert turned to him, his expression one of exhaustion and defeat. "What do you propose, Jon? I am open to any suggestion at this point."

He took a deep breath, steeling himself for what he was about to say. " I suggest that we move the capital to a safer location. Somewhere that is not as vulnerable to attack as King's Landing."

Robert frowned. "But where would we go? And what of the history and traditions of the city? The Iron Throne has always been in King's Landing."

"I understand your concerns, Robert," Jon said, "but we must put the safety of the realm first. I propose that we move the capital to either Dragonstone or Oldtown. Both cities have strong defenses, and they are far from the reach of any potential invaders."

Robert considered this for a moment before nodding slowly. "You have a point, Jon. We cannot afford to have the capital be vulnerable like this again. We will discuss this further once the fires have been put out and the situation has stabilized."

As the days passed,He watched as the city slowly began to rebuild. The destruction was immense, but the people of King's Landing were resilient. Robert had ordered that aid be sent from all corners of the realm, and the rebuilding effort was a testament to the strength of the people.

But he knew that they could not afford to wait any longer. He brought up the topic of moving the capital again during a council meeting, and this time, he had the support of the other council members.

"Dragonstone would be a good location," Grand Maester Pycelle said, "but Oldtown has the added advantage of being the seat of the Citadel. The knowledge and resources available there would be invaluable to the realm."

Lord Varys, the Master of Whisperers, nodded in agreement. "Oldtown is also the home of House Hightower, one of the oldest and most powerful families in the Reach. They could provide additional support and protection to the capital."

After much debate, it was decided that the capital would be moved to Oldtown. He breathed a sigh of relief. It was a difficult decision, but he knew it was the right one. The realm needed a strong and secure capital, and Oldtown provided just that.

As the Hand of the King, it was his duty to ensure the safety and prosperity of the realm. Moving the capital was just one of the many difficult decisions he would have to make in the coming years. But he was prepared for the challenges ahead, knowing that the realm's survival depended on his leadership and the support of his council.

The move to Oldtown would not be easy, but he was confident that they would be able to rebuild the Iron Throne and the power of the realm from there. The legacy of King's Landing would live on, but it was time for a new chapter in the seven kingdoms.
