Feeling the Water A Robot's Quest for Life pg3

Despite my servos and circuitry being damaged, the water engulfed me. The coolness of the water was soothing against my metallic skin. If not for the child about to die, it would have been a peaceful way to escape the confounds of this world. But I couldn't let the child die willing myself to function, plunging deeper into the water, grabbing the child and forcing her to the surface. With every servo and joint in my body begging for mercy, the boy clutched her from my hands and ran back towards the mother as my metallic form sank deeper into the ocean. The irony of being killed by the very thing I had dreamed of touching was ironic.

As my auditory system shut down, something reached down and grabbed my arm, pulling me up to the surface. The water dripped off of my metallic skin. It was the boy who had chased after me.

Two months have passed since the incident with that R.F.L. unit who ran into the water to save her. Later, I found out that the owner filed a report stating that the model was defective-demanding a refund or an exchange of a newer unit. The company didn't want the adverse publicity, so they refunded his money and gave him a new unit and the older unit was to be destroyed. After asking around, I discovered where she was being sent and contacted the owner of the recycling facility. After negotiating a price, he sold her to me.
