My new teacher dropped an oversized purse like bag on the desk at the front of the class and turned around to write her name on the old fashioned green colored black board behind her. "For those of you who are new, I'm Ms. Clair. And most of what I'm going to go over today your parents or older sibling should have filled you in on already."
She pointed the stick of chalk still in her hand at me. "But, we got someone new in town, so most of this should be new for her, even if it doesn't apply to her, and it never hurts to go over this again for the rest of you."
Turning around, she drew a hashtag on the blackboard, then a number one followed by the words she spoke out loud at the same time. "Number one. No turning into a wolf."
She turned to look at the class, some of whom had spoken along with her. With her chalk in hand, she continued. "No showing off your strength, or your speed, or your wolf sences." She singled me out again. "Or any other supernatural powers."
Her eyes narrowed as she crossed her arms. "I know just about everyone in this town is either related to one of us, or is otherwise in the know about us. But high school is where you are old enough to practice keeping secrets while learning with, working with, and even dating regular people."
She got a few giggles from that.
Then she wrote rule number two. “No fighting.”
"All of you are too strong to fight a regular human, you might kill them and would definitely hurt them. If want to prove something, grow up. You already know you can beat them."
She singled out the guy who had been glaring at me. "And if you have something to prove against another werewolf, then both of you go see the Sheriff so can referee."
The boy Autin grunted, then pointed at me. “What about her?”
Ms Clair looked down her nose at him. "You want to fight a girl."
He blushed and glared. "No! I want to fight someone who knows how to fight, I don't care if she beats me, Deloris already did that. I want to see how she would do it different."
Oh. First of all, I turned to look at Del and mouthed the name Deloris. She rolled her eyes and nodded.
Then I looked over at Ms. Clair and raised my hand. She pointed her chalk me with a warning look. "This isn't the time to set up a date with Austin, Sara."
You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.
I felt my face heat up. "No, I just wanted to tell him my Dad is starting a Dojo. He's strong enough to train werewolves, and I think he's been experimenting on my Grandpa to develop a martial art specifically for werewolves."
I looked over at Austin to see him and most of the other boys in the class, as well as some of the girls, giving me interested looks. "I should warn you though, he likes fighting, and since you guys heal fast, really fast…" I shrugged. "It might be as much learning how to fight you, as teaching you how to fight."
A few of them, the smarter one I guessed, looked thoughtful. Others, especially Austin looked eager, and they started asking questions before Ms Clair tapped her fingernail on the blackboard, instantly getting everyone's attention.
Why?
“On your own time boy and girls, we only have a few more minutes, and two last things to cover.”
Rule four was "No biting. If they aren't wolves by the age of twelve, a bite is just going to mean a trip to the hospital."
Rule five was no sports.
“You can play games after school in the old gym with each other, but playing sports with regulars is both unfair and might get them hurt.”
I hesitantly raised my hand again, getting a slightly irritated if amused look from Ms. Clair.
“...Yes, Sara.”
Lowing my hand and looking down at the floor, I almost whispered my question. Like it mattered in a room filled with werewolves.
“What about the other Olympics?”
Before anyone could ask, the bell rang again, causing most of the class, including the teacher to flinch at the loud noise. As the questions started, Ms. Clair tapped her fingernail on the board again and when that didn't work, she winced and began dragging her fingernails across the board with a screeching sound that made all the students in the class, including me, wince in pain.
"You only have five minutes to get your next class puppies. Caine, Ash, and Rogers stay, the rest of you, out."
A few people shot me some frustrated look as they shuffled out, and for a moment I wondered if I was in trouble before I remembered I had Ms Clair for literature in the same room.
Del patted me on the shoulder as she headed out and wished me “Good luck.” as she headed out while pointing over my shoulder.
Turning around I saw Neal and Austin standing off against each other, the larger boy Austin glaring down at a confused looking Neal. "Back off Evans, I want to talk to her."
Neal blinked at him, “I just wanted to say Hi to her before I go to my next class. You won’t have time to ask her about that stuff anyways.”
I leaned back in my chair and waved at Neal. "Hi Neal, I'll wake you up and say hi tomorrow."
He grinned and waved at me. “Hi Sara, bye Sara, bye Austin.” Then he headed for the down, stopped, and patted both of his shoulders with a confused look, before turning to pick up his book bag from beside his seat and heading back out the classroom door all the while avoiding eye contact with me.
Cute.
Then I had an oversized teenager blocking my view. I sighed as I looked up at the surly boy trying his best to look friendly. “Olympics?”
The other remaining person in the class, an awkward looking boy with oversized eyes, leaned forward in his desk to look past Austin as he listened in.
"It's not really an Olympics type thing. It's just the families started having fighting matches to show off and some people started playing volleyball in a gym next door. Pretty soon it got organized with other sports and then some people started getting together for things like archery and even swimming."
A few other students started showing up in the class so I leaned forward to whisper past Autin to the other boy. "There might even be werewolves playing in them already, as long as they stay in human form I wouldn't know, and anyone who would never said anything to me."
Both of them started asking questions, only to stop as Ms. Clair tapped her fingernail on the blackboard again. "This is my time gentlemen. Mouths shut, books out."
Then she winked at me. "I'm going to want a five hundred word report on these games by Wednesday Sara, feel free to have your parents help you. You'll get extra credit, maybe from more than just my class."
I sighed. Great, my first class hasn't even started and I have homework already.
