Ch-1 : Dust On!

Jack and Isaac moved through the deeply dug trenches. Jack could feel the stares of the exhausted soldiers.

“Two Guardians… We are saved.” A soldier holding a rifle leaned in and whispered to another.

Jack knew the human race was nearing extinction and sneered in disgust just thinking about it. Japan, the last stand for humans.

The sound of explosions rung through the trenches causing the earth to jitter and the dirt to move.

Turning around, Jack could see Isaac's green earth elemental armor glistening in the light with his large white wings tightly tucked together. Isaac’s legendary Giga staff connected to his side by an invisible force.

“How can you explain that Isaac. One thousand years of this fighting and we are still losing.” Jack sneered as the two continued to attract hopeful glances from the soldiers that they were passing.

Jack’s black leather hooded overcoat made him uncomfortably warm but helped him to hide his weapons from the enemy. However, his glistening red elemental armor and white wings were a dead giveaway that he was a Guardian.

Guardians, a name given to humans that have substantially transcended human ability. Jack knew very few were in existence.

“We have to keep trying.” Isaac responded.

Gun shots, screams, metal clanging and the sounds of explosions continued to ring out in the background.

Jack and Isaac stopped at the end of the trench. Jack turned to Isaac to see the soldiers they walked past had decided to follow them.

“You ready?” Jack asked.

“Let’s do this!” Isaac replied calmly.

With a jump, both Jack and Isaac bounced higher than the height of the trench. Jacks heart was to racing. He had little information on what he was fighting due to the superiority of the enemy. He was confident as he knew that he was not like before and now considered himself a very strong and capable fighter. Isaac was with him this time too.

Jack looked side to side along the trenches. The sound of war cries boomed out. Jack knew their actions of leaving the trenches would rile the soldiers to fight. Seeing Guardians was a rare and obviously a hopeful sight to them and happened every time they fought. However, it never gets easier as he also knew it meant thousands would usually die.

Jack and Isaac's brilliant large white wings made of feathers sprang out visible gushes of air resonating as the wings flapped.

Isaac took his condensed staff and spun it. The staff turned a bright green and created large licks of green lighting as the staff expanded into a long dual weapon.

A volley of small fireballs flew towards Jack. Jack looked at them, scoffed and instead turned to Isaac while the soldiers below looked in horror as the attack drew closer.

“I count three dragons, and several low-level Dark Elves. I do not see a rider on the any of the dragons are you going to be okay?” Isaac questioned.

A few of the fireballs directly hit Jack but fade away without touching him. He knew that such attacks are now ineffective. The remaining fireballs begin to drop to the ground and explode causing small craters.

“Probably not but I have to try.” Jack replied.

Soldiers began climbing out of the trenches and running in small tactical groups. Bursts of their rifles echoed and the flashes of their shots whipped across the battlefield. From the enemy side, fireballs, large rocks, zaps of electricity chaotically and randomly struck the ground or flew past the soldiers as they continued, in horror, to push forward.

Jack took out a medium size sword with a bright red blade from under his trench coat. He knew he had to get into this fight quickly. The more decimation he could make the less the soldiers were going to die today.

Disappearing and only leaving an after-image Jack flashed across the battlefield into the enemy lines.

First something needs to be done about the Orcs on the front line. Their armor was too strong for typical rifle fire and Jack knew they could quickly bridge the gap by their fast-leaping ability.

Creating a sonic boom Jack glided down to the first Orc. His blade brightened and was engulfed with flames as he completed a 360-degree spin lopping off its head. With the momentum he pushed forward to the next Orc cutting it in half from the bottom up.

Jack using his flash-step disappeared and reappeared in front of another Orc and quickly impaled it through the body. He grabbed his blade with his second hand and pushed the Orc forward building momentum until he found another Orc stuck to his blade. With feet firmly planted on the ground he appeared to separate outward, his sword turning into two as the Orcs originally attached to the blade were ripped in half.

Not quick enough he though. Jack put his swords away and took out what appeared to be a large pistol with red veins running through it. He fired the pistol, an overly large fireball spewed from the muzzle. The shot quickly struck an Orc creating a wall of fire vaporizing it. He then looked at another Orc and another until 5 Orcs were all struck by the one bullet creating a jagged wall of fire.

Looking back Jack knew soldiers were dying. Orcs at different areas of the front lines had already made it to them cutting the soldiers down. Jack could see many injured men either shot by various magic, with burn injuries, convulsing from electric shock or just simply dismembered by the explosions or the Orcs.

Suddenly, as he looked back, a warm green light rose across the defensive line. The injured soldiers, confused, but healed, began getting back up again. Jack smiled knowing that was one of Isaac's Giga Heals. A large area of effect magic skill that normally just heals small cuts and bruises. However, Isaac had transcended and is now a Guardian. His powers alone could literally change the tides of battles.

Jack was not going to let Isaac out class him though. He faced the front line, shots of different magical abilities constantly hitting him but were not even touching his armor due to his pale red mana shield he had employed. His armor begun to glow red. He spread his arms out.

“Fire wall!” Jack shouted.

A huge 10 meter firewall protruded from Jacks arms and spanned the length of the battlefield. He then slowly brought his arms together as the firewall began moving towards the enemy line, vaporizing everything in its path. The firewall moved for about 80 meters before petering out.

Looking back, Jack could see Isaac, glowing brightly green had stopped and smiled towards him. The two always enjoyed a little rivalry considering they had been fighting on and off together for the last one thousand years.

Turning back around, Jack is quickly struck by a tail, breaking his mana shield and shooting him into the floor creating a crater in the ground.

Spitting blood and disappointed that he got careless he gets up and looks in the direction he was hit.

A large brown scaled dragon the size of a 747 sneered down at Jack. Ugly looking thing he thought.

Opening his wings, Jack kneels to prepare to spring up. Instead, he looks up to not see your typical run of the mill Dark Elf, but a Royal Dark Elf appear in front of him.

“Vile human. You are not deserving of such power.” The Royal Dark Elf scoffs and then kicks Jack sending him flying into the air.

Jack opens his wings to correct himself mid-flight. He stops, wings completely open but as he does, he feels a presence behind him. He turns around to only be kicked like a plaything back into the ground causing a larger crater than before.

Injured, he sees the Royal Dark Elf break the sound barrier to zoom down and strike him again. He couldn’t react. This was it he thought as blood sputtered from his mouth due to the internal damage.

“Bastion!” A voice shouted.

A dark blue mana wall two meters wide around Jack appears. The Royal Dark Elf struck the wall cracking it but preventing a direct impact into Jack.

Smiling, while lying on the ground. He knew that voice and that skill from anywhere.

The wall faded away as Isaac appeared in front of Jack. Isaac kneels over him and begins to heal his injuries.

“Hi Jack.” A voice said in a smart-ass tone.

Jack looked up to see an older man, white beard, white hair and white wings with glorious blue knight armor that continuously pulsated a blue field.

“Fuck… It’s good but at the same time bad seeing you John.” Jack replied.

“Yeah, I tried. But Kyoto has fallen.” John said in a disappointed voice as Jack scrambles to his feet.

Jack and Isaac flew up to John’s level and the three of them faced the foe before them. Their bright wings seen across the battlefield like shining beacons.

“Teeheehee. This battle is over silly humans.” The Royal Dark Elf mocks.

“Nah… Far from over.” Jack said drawing out both of his flaming red swords.

“Actually… the battle has only just begun.” Isaac continues.

“DUST ON!” The three Guardians said almost at the same time. Incredibly powerful auras with their elemental colors blast out encircling the Guardians.

Jack smiled at the Royal Dark Elf who was now enveloped in fear. The battle is just heating up.
