Losing Control

Breathing in flaky ashes my skin burned from the flames. Piece by piece, everything that was valuable crumbled to the ground and become useless. I sank to my knees astonished at how much pain I felt inside. My body trembled and ached. A sob fell from my parted mouth and tears fled from my eyes. I clutched my chest and leaned forward screaming out it agony. My screams echoed throughout the streets bouncing off the walls and and down into dirtied waters.

I screamed not caring about anything else. Not about the blood trickling from my back or the body wrenching pain in my stomach. Instead, I screamed at myself for not seeing this…

“Shadow!”

I stopped after hearing my name.

“Shadow where are you?”

Crowes husky voice was heavy over the crackling flames that subsided to the side.

Crowes eyes searched the rubble and placed his eyes onto my quivering body. Concern grew to a climax and he ran toward me sliding on his knees. His arms wrapped around me and his breath brushed through my hair.

“Shadow…”  His voice sounded pained, but my heart didn’t want to hear it.

I wrapped my arms around him and gripped the back of his shirt.

Through my whimpers, I searched the area for any sight of life. Coughing could be heard and I saw his figure rise from the ashes. Deep inside him glowed a flicker of hope.

Human.

My eyes glowed with anger, all my pain fled away from me and was replaced with devouring rage. I pushed Crowe away and began limping toward the unwanted being.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

“Shadow, Don't!”

Closing the distance between us, the man spun in circles calling out a name.

“Thomas!”

I halted remembering the familiar name. An image of the boy in my room flashed in my head. I gritted my teeth in even more frustration.

“Damnit.” My eye’s glowed even brighter, Their golden color burning like florescent lights.

Human children can come and go through my hotel without realizing. They have a so-called ‘free pass’, for a child can be molded into good or evil. But when an adult or a human of fifteen and older pass through any entrance my world will be burned.

My nails dug into the palms of my hands. A burst of hot energy ignited inside of me and it was enough for me to reach the human man. His eyes locked with mine.

Bringing my right arm up and clasping his face my eyes burned with excentric rage. The man's screams were muffled by a high shrill that made the earth shudder. The ground shook and moaned. The sky darkened and sent streaks of burning electricity to the ground nearby.

My back arched and two vast black feathered wings stretched out. Both seem to have a heavenly feel but looked as though they’ve gone through hell. They were scarred and damaged. Ripped and burned. The father’s skin began to bubble and pop as if he was being cooked inside out.

“Shadow!” Crowe called trying to snap me back to reality.

My vision shifted in and out of focus. My body glowed with a vibrant golden color. My wings stretched further out, hiding my hideous face. My teeth began to sharpen and my fingernails grew into pointed daggers. The man’s eyes were filled with horror and a flash of his boys faced crossed my mind.

“Y O U  P A T H T I C   B E I N G”

My vision failed as I heard the limbs and bones being peeled apart from the disgusting human.
