“This is too easy, you have got to be careful,” her inner voice cautioned as she lifted off the ground.
“Yeah, but I am so good, I make all jobs look easy,” she replied to her subconscious. Just as she landed on
the balcony, she pulled out her lockpicks and made short work of the door lock. It popped easily, and she
opened it slowly to avoid any squeaking sounds. She entered and switched to her night vision goggles, not
wanting to take any chances turning on any lights that could give her away.
She put the thought aside and proceeded into the massive parlour. Now all that was left was to find the
chief, she thought to herself. She crossed over to the master wing of the house, having carefully studied the
blueprint and knowing everything about its architecture, from doors to rooms, leaving no screw unturned.
She casually strolled through a long hallway and came to another parlour.
“This is it, I just need to…”
She was stopped in her thoughts by the feeling of something cold against the back of her head and a deep
voice saying, “Drop it!” Caught completely by surprise, she stiffened her body, ready to pull a stunt out of
the bag, when the voice added, “Please flinch, please make a move, give me a reason to stain the walls.”
This sounded like a psychopath, one who would give little or no thought to blasting her brains out. She

looked up and, from her night vision goggles, saw more guards stretching their rifles at her from the stairs.
There was no escaping this one.
“I said drop it,” the voice said again, with a higher and surer pitch.
She did not want to push her luck and stake against whoever had a gun to her head, so she stiffly dropped
the gun to the ground and raised her hands above her head. Just then, the light came on.
Chief Adesina was sitting on the far side of the room, sipping wine from a glass cup.
“Damn, he knew,” the bitter thought crossed her mind.
He was looking very uninterested and unperturbed by the fact that someone had just tried to break into his
mansion.
“You must feel very protected in your little palace,” she said.
On hearing that, he laughed, took a sip of his drink and made a signal. The man holding a gun to her head
skillfully engaged the back of her knees, and before she could even catch her breath, her knees were on the
ground. His gun never left her head while she was in transition. The chief stood up and walked towards her,
a smile still plastered on his face.
“First of all, you don’t call a five billion naira mansion, little. Also, if you were trying a stunt no one has ever
pulled and were successful at it, then it begs recognition. Sadly, I count this as a total fail,” he said.
He then made another gesture with his fingers, to the man holding the gun to her head.
He nodded in agreement and pulled the trigger.
